I have a website that is written in english. I am starting to get users from other countries. They speak english so it is not a problem as yet. But what is involved in adding multi language features to a site? Do you need to actually do the translations? For example, I have users from Slovenia which - I think uses some sort of cryllic alphabet. What is necessary to do this?

I want users to be able to enter an english word or enter a korean word in each respective textboxes...
Now I can only enter english in both of them... Even if my keyboard language is switched to Korean(I have the language pack installed).. I can not type in Korean in the Korean text box....

Is there anyway to do this in ASP.NET?

I have a client who wants me to block his site from certain countries. Each month I add all the new IP address ranges for these countries into a sql database. If the user has a blocked IP address, the site directs them to a phoney 504 error page. This way it doesn't appear that the site is being blocked, but rather is just having difficulites. Thats the way we want it.
It works fine however, there are some users (5%) who get a 500 error. No rhyme or reason. It works across all browsers and operating systems. I have no way of finding out why from my hosting service. I can't dupliate it. I have the following code that runs at Page_Init

In my example, the view model for States does not contain Countries and the tree would break as it needs the Countries list to build the tree. It sounds like this should be easy, but it doesn't sound right to include the entire model for a single State or City view.

I have a country table that has a list of countries. However, instead of just displaying the list alphabetical, I need to list the United States first, and then all the other countries in Alphabetical order. My select statement is pretty simple, jsut don't know how to get the US listed first...

but i want to combine these two quries i want the output as :

I found the solution. Just override InitializeCulture().

Since many of the users don't speak english very well, I wanted to add local translation to the web.
It's been a while since I've used .net, and perhaps I'm getting a little bit rusty, but my Localized resources are not working for some reason.
I have a Default.aspx.resx in my App_GlobalResources folder and inside it a small resx file. It simply has one test string: "Button" with the value of "Botón", nothing complex there.
Then I have the test controls: <asp:Localize runat="server" ID="test" Text="Button" meta:resourcekey="Button" /> and <asp:Label ID="header1" runat="server" Text="Button" meta:resourcekey="Button" />
But this isn't updated. Things that I've tried:
1. Put UICulture in the Page Tag
2. Renamed the resource file to Default.aspx.es.resx
3. Put my browser in 'es-ES' locale
4. Tried to load the resources explicitly inside <%%>

View 9 RepliesI have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.
Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:

So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.
