So here is the problem when javscript returns true its not firing the serverclick event.

It took me a little while to figure this out, but the AllowPaging="true" on the FormView seems to be the culprit. I don't have much experience paging from a FormView, but for this requirement the customers wants this kind of UI.I have a FormView with DefaultMode="Edit", which is bound to an EntityDataSource. One of the entity's properties, "ExternalID", determines whether some of the other properties in the entity are read-only. For example, if IsExternal==null, the FirstName, LastName, and Email fields should be rendered as TextBoxes. If IsExternal!=null, the 3 properties should be rendered in Label controls.

By default, asp.net adds an onclick='doPostBack....' for the LinkButton.
Case for use:
There is a LinkButton tag on the page. For this page, if the user has one friend, I only want to run client side code if the button is clicked and would not for any reason want to make a post back. If the user has more than one friend I would want a click to trigger a postback.

View 3 RepliesI'm using a GridView to display some columns and rows that reside in a database. This works excellent. Because i wanted to add columns dynamically out of a List of names. Let's say we have a list with 5 names in it, then it dynamically creates a column for every name in the GridView.
Here's some code to display what i do:

How do i create the dynamic columns for each row? I create them with a DataBound event. So when the GridView databinds, the columns get filled with data. There is also a check inside to see if the row is in edit mode or not. So when i click on the edit button next to the row, the row goes perfectly in edit mode. The code i made adds a TextBox control to the cell.
When i fill in a value and press the Update button, it can't find any controls anymore and therefore i can't get the value i entered. The control is still there in the DataBound when i put a break point after it. But as soon as i click the Update button, all the controls of the cells are gone.
I searched on the internet and all i found is that it has something to do with the application firing a postback before it reaches the RowUpdating method.
So, how can i let the controls exist that i added to the cell when it is in edit mode?
well i have already created the rows and cells dynamically using asp.net table control ...but how to add an onclick event on that ...so that i could retrieve the corresponding cell when a particular row is clicked ...if it was a html control ,i could have used javascript but in this particular case m unable to find any solution..

In my View, there is a HTML button; I would like to execute a function from Controller when user clicks on that button. I need to pass a value from HTML textbox as parameters. My function will do some calculating and return the result back to the same View.
Let's make a simple example.

I am facing one strange problem,I have a gridview in which the last two columns have checkboxes and on those checkboxes click event I am doing some database operations.I also have one checkbox that is outside the gridview which actually shows or hides some of the gidview columns.This was all working well but now I have shifted that grid to a user control because I have to use it in two pages.The problem now is,When the page first loads and I click the check box or any control in the page that is outside the grid then it works perfectly.But once I click any of the check box within grid view column then its behavior chages, now even if I click the checkbox that is outside the grid then also the checkbox_CheckedChanged event of the checkbox that is whithin gridview is fired.That checkbox event then behaves something like a page_load event that is called for every page load and for every event with in the page after it is called once.

The button is created in a seperate class, not in the code behind, so when I attach the button click event I have to put the click method in the class that creates the control. However, when the button is clicked I need to open a modal form in the page that contains the button. How can I move the event back to the web user control with the sender object? I suspect I need to do something with a delegate or something, but I am having a hard time putting how to do that together. Can someone tell me how to do this?
