ASP.NET MVC 3 was released on Jan 13, 2011. I was able to install it on my XP SP3 workstation. But, when I opened an MVC C# project, VS 2010 hangs. I have repaired VS 2010 and Framework 4.0 with no luck. The issue was resolved after uninstalling VS 2010 SP1 Beta. Does anyone know if ASP.NET MVC 3 works with VS 2010 SP1 Beta?
View 1 RepliesI installed VS2010. Then The Azure toolkit. I created a new solution, with one webrole in it. I added 'HelloAzure' to the default.aspx, and then pressed f5 to run it.
It runs! I see my text 'HelloAzure' in IE8. Yeah!
Now, when I close IE8, it seems that VS2010 simply hangs, is frozen. It accepts no input from mouse/keyb. Nothing moves ... you know ... it hangs.
Taskmanager is required to get out if this state.
i have vs 2k8 and vs 2010 beta 2 running side by side on a machine. i went to install mvc rc 2 today, and it errored saying the mvc was already installed.i went and looked at the release notes, and lo and behold, it says you can't install it if 2010 is installed.
View 3 RepliesI am working on Windows XP SP3 with VS 2008 Team System SP1. I installed VS 2010 Professional Beta 2. Although the installation reported a success, it also reported a failure of installation of Silverlight. I created a console applicaiton test project in 2010 and just tried to write Console.Writeline. But when I try to type "Console." it did not show me the intellisense. When I press "Ctrl+SpaceBar" it displays me the options correctly. Is there an issue with the installation or i have to change some options to enable intellisense.
View 2 RepliesI have a development box running Win7 and VS2010. A User Acceptance Testing server running Windows Server 2008 / Sql Server 2008 and a Live server running Windows Server 2008 / Sql 2008.
When doing development I connect to a development database on the UAT server.
I have a problem that only occurs when I change the connection string to point to the database on the Live Server.
So, before I start describing the problem - the app works fine in development and when published to the UAT server - but there is a problem when I either publish it to the live server or, whilst on my dev box, point the connection string to the live database.
Here's an example.
I have a page with a gridview on it. In each row of the gridview there is a drop down list. All calls to the database are done through a Data Access class.
Say I have a function on an .aspx.cs page called GetDetails().

This is the first time i am experiencing vs 2010 hangs up when clicked on .sql file. I am using intel core 1.8Ghz with 2.24Gb of RAM. It work file with other project. I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?
Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 locked up, and when I tried to restart it, it wouldn't load, so I did a devenv.exe /resetuserdata to get it going again. It reset everyhing in my options of the web app/ etc, and now some AJAX conrols don't work such as dragpanel. I assume that it is because something got reset that I haven't enabled again, but can't figure it out.

View 9 RepliesWhen I first open vs there is a screen with a blue background that is displayed. That screen has a very noticable flicker which is actually painful to my eyes. It is like my monitor is out of sync. I am running vista, screen resolution 1920 x 1200. I have two identical monitors, graphics card is ATI radeon 3800 series.I have no problems with any other application or game. I was hoping this would go away with the RC but it is still there.

View 4 Repliesi need to make some changes to an asp.net website developed by another person - he is on a windows machine, i am using a mac.i need to make some fairly minor changes to the asp, but obviously i can't without being able to at least run the project, and hopefully open it in some development environment (although i'm not adverse to doing it all with a text editor if that's 'easier').i have installed monodevelop, but can't see how to open the project, let alone run it!maybe it's easier to do this in parallels in a windows environment?

The Response.Redirect works perfectly and I have tried various other Window.Open methods with no success, but always get an error: “Microsoft JScript runtime error:

How to open project created by someone else in visual studio
I have copy of project created by some one and now I want to be able to open that project and work further on it.
The first time I created my model, I thought a manual fix would keep it okay. But everytime I open my project, the model is updated and the Designer.cs is formatted weird. The following picture shows the main problem: I'm just not sure how to permanently fix it other than going through and deleting the "System.Data." and "System.whatever" paths when they are referenced. That is the only way the build/publish succeeds, and it's very time consuming to complete each time.
