Jan 20, 2010Is there any possibility to pass values of form elements to action methods but using parameters?I have a form with a lot of input fields and the method signature will get pretty long. Besides the form elements depend on each other so if the user makes a special choice only a subset of the form elements should be displayed so there are several combinationof values to be passed.Can I access the posted values in a generic way through a collection in the controller or something similar?

Now the issue is when i try to search the customer based on the last name the page is calling the create action method only, not the search action method. how to call a spicific action method from the buttons. I know it can be done using ajax post back but what i am looking at is to achive this in the normal post back itself.

But after inheriting my Controllers from BaseController, my Action methods are not even executed, the execution stops at Execute of BaseController and I get blank pages in the browser.

It started lastnight, I had both Deamweaver and VWD 2008 express open at the same time - (I was looking at JQuery in the Microsoft and Dreamweaver enviroments simultaniously). After the first tie this happened, I closed down Dreamweaver (CS3) and it opened when I tried to run my VWD project. I reinstalled VWD 2008 express, IIS and disabled Dreamweaver (renamed the exe). Dreamweaver still came up.

MVC :: Why Synchronous Action Wasn't Executed Until Asynchronous Action Completed
Nov 29, 2010I'm implement Comet in Asp.net MVC, I used timer to keep Async request in server, Async request will complete when timer elapsed 1 minute and response to client (to avoid 404 error) and then reconnect to Async Controller. I also wanna execute some Synchronous action during Async request was holding, but the problem is: When an Async action was executed and hold by using timer, the Sync Action wasn't called until Async action (comet long-live request) completed. I did test with firefox 3.6 many times, but the result is the same, so strange, Do you know why ? I have a sub some questions : To implement comet, using timer (response after some minutes elapsed) or thread (response after several time sleeping thread) to hold async request, which is better?

I do have an action method for results page and one more action method for Jqgrid data..i am trying to check the row count for the database result and trying to redirect to details action results..but its not working at all..and showing an empty jqgrid..

Test That A Controller Action Simply Returns A Link To Another Action?
Apr 29, 2010Lets say I have a simple controller for ASP.NET MVC I want to test. I want to test that a controller action (Foo, in this case) simply returns a link to another action (Bar, in this case).How would you test TestController.Foo? (either the first or second link)
My implementation has the same link twice. One passes the url throw ViewData[]. This seems more testable to me, as I can check the ViewData collection returned from Foo(). Even this way though, I don't know how to validate the url itself without making dependencies on routing.The controller:

Sep 16, 2010I am beginner in web applications development. I started one little project and host it on source forge "https://homoco.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/homoco". And I started implementing authentication in this application to learn how it works. From my experience people never use out of the box things so I want to implement this stuff alone (like in real world projects). So some questions:
1) Is there any reason to use membership out of the box? To use database table schema, stored procedures etc. that tool generate for developer. I think that this lower control over code and I decided to implement it my self. I don't know if I am right.
2) Is my approach in this demo project good or bad (if someone have time I like to do just a little code review)? I created database based on business rules. Not using database schema that membership provider require. Extend "MembershipProvider" class to satisfy my needs. Implement queries to database myself.
3) Now, this question is a little wired but I have to ask it. If we make custom Membership Provider and do sql queries alone, implement all MembershipProvider class methods ourselves, and in application use Membership.blabla() why is this approach different from not extending MembershipProvider class and putting all this methods in some unique class and call its methods then? I hope that someone understand what I ask here.
I am sorry for three questions, but I really trying to find the best way to implement this feature in my demo project like it is a real world application.

How To Pass Parameters To An Action Using Html.Action() In MVC?
Jun 30, 2010I've been using Html.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") to invoke child actions across controllers without needing to have the view in ViewsShared. This has been working great for displaying things like session or cookie information.
Instead of just accessing cookies, I would like to pass additional parameters to Html.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") so the action can execute different code based on the the data passed to the original view.
Should I be using a different method to pass parameters to a child action in a different controller?
