I have a question regarding validation of drop-down list values. I have a view that is bound to a view model type called ReservationData.
This object contains a property CustomerVehicles of type List<VehicleData>. VehicleDatahas two int properties VehicleMakeId and VehicleModelId.
On my view I am trying to loop over the number of items in the CustomerVehicles collection and displaying two dropdowns for each, a vehicle make dropdown and a vehicle model dropdown usingDropDownListFor.
When I try to submit and validate I do not see any validation errors displayed on the screen.
Just in case you are wondering I have added a ValidationMessageFor for each dropdown as well. I am not sure if this is an issue with the structure of my view model and its complexity and how the controls need to be named or how the ids need to be set.
Here is the code for the looping over the collection:

I am creating dropdown controls in code behind. in some conditions I need to add validation control to dropdowlist. But Validation not firing when I submit button.
If mQuestion.RequiredToAnswer = True Then
Dim mValidator As New RequiredFieldValidator
mValidator.ControlToValidate = mDDL.ID
mValidator.InitialValue = mDDL.Items(0).Text
mValidator.Display = ValidatorDisplay.Dynamic
mValidator.ErrorMessage = "* Required!"
mTableCell.Controls.Add(mValidator)
End If
I have other dropdown controls on aspx page with validation comtrols. Those are working fine. Only when I ddl and validations from code not working?

jQuery validation is working fine on my machine, when i pushed it to test server it won't it's throwing some errors which is kind of surprising.These are the errors I am getting: $.validator is null or not an object...I've never gotten this error before and it throwing an error when I declared a variable like var isValid.I don't know what to do. I am doing the custom validation methods not in the document.ready(). Does this cause this error? I wonder because all jquery validations are passing and hitting the server side validations.

Search thru the wauy to do view input validation, have seen quite often refers this [Required], eg:
public class ProductViewModel {
[Price(MinPrice = 1.99)]
public double Price { get; set; }
[Required]
public string Title { get; set; }
}
What this [Required] actually is? In which assembly?

I have a Order view with 2 user controls in it.
The first user control in the view is just to validate the customer and get some more details about the customer. This control is having one text box (customer name) with the button. When the user clicks the button it should validate the customer name in the client side using data annotations of customer model. if validation success then it should use some bussiness logic to verify the customer and show the customer details on the form.
The 2nd user control in the view is to get the address of the customer by searching for the house no and the postcode. This control is having 2 text box with the button.
The first user control is based on the strongly typed customer entity
The 2nd user control is bsed on the strongly typed address entity
The view with both the user control is based on the strongly typed order entity.
The issue here is with the validation. I have the validation summary in the view and client sider validation is enabled. When i click the search button on the first user control the client validation starts and throws validation error messages because when i search for the customer at that point of time i will not have values to may of the customer related fields in the order view.
The same thing happen when i click the search button on the 2nd view. It will throw client side validation for other fields.
What i want to achive is that when the user click the search button on the user control 1 then the validation should happen only to the customer name field (both in client and server).
When the user click the search button on the 2 nd user control the the validation should happen only for houseno and the postcode both in client and the server.
When the user clicks the save button on the order view all the fields in the form even the controls usere input fields should get validated. How to achive this in mvc?

I am using a login user control inside the master page of an ASP.Net MVC site, the user control is not using a strongly typed model.
In the user control I have a text box and a validation message defined as:
<%= Html.TextBox("Username")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("Username")%>
In my controller I handle any errors by adding an error to the model state
ModelState.AddModelError("Username", "Your Username is incorrect");
This all works well but I was wondering if there is a nice way to remove the magic "Username" strings without breaking the MVC pattern?
I guess if I was using a model for the control I could expose a constant that the view and the controller could use but I'm not sure how to do that with the masterpage.

I'm using ASP.NET MVC 2 and here's the issue. My View Model looks something like this. It includes some fields which are edited by the user and others which are used for display purposes. Here's a simple version
public class MyModel
{
public decimal Price { get; set; } // for view purpose only
[Required(ErrorMessage="Name Required")]
[Code]....
But doing this, I get an error on UpdateModel(rec): The model of type 'MyModel' could not be updated.

I've got a view with 2 forms on it - one to login and the other to register. My problem is that the client-side validation from MicrosoftMvcValidation is firing regardless of which form I submit - because my forms are rendering the inputs with the same id e.g.
<input id="User_Email"
name="User.Email" type="text"
value="" />
How can I change the generated forms to create different id's for the inputs in such a way that the validation works?
I'm using a strongly-typed view with a model with this property:
Model property:
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter an email address")]
public string Email { get; set; }
First form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("LogOn", "Account")) { %>
<%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.User.Email) %>
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.User.Email) %><% } %>
Second form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("Register", "Account")) { %>
<%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.User.Email) %>
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.User.Email) %><% } %>
My second form produces id's identical to the first form which is causing the problem.
Is it possible to specify the difference in the Html helper on the view or do I need to provide 2 seperate models somehow? I'm a bit in the dark.

I have a panel (say, panel1) inside another panel (say, outer-panel)….The panel1 is visible only when a checkbox is checked in the outer-panel. I am using ajax update panel to do this.
Now I have many text boxes in the panel1. I have to put a validation on all the boxes.
I tried to test this by putting validation on 2 boxes and this works fine on my local machine. When I put the same logic on the server, it does not. Of course the page on my local machine has fewer text boxes compared to the page on server. But I do not understand why the same logic works on my local machine and does not work on the server. I did try to put a validation group, but of no use.The page on the sever is a very long one and also it has a captcha control….. when ever I try not to enter text in one the text boxes which has validation and then hit submit…it redirects me to another page with out prompting for the validation error.

I have in the fact copied the code of Login page in the ASP.NET MVC application template (provided with VS). In the original template, client side validation is working but when I copy all the connected code I get only server side validation (no red fields, post back even if data are incorrect).
public class LogOnModel {
[Required]
[Display(Name = "User name")]
public string UserName { get; set; }
[Required]
[DataType(DataType.Password)]
[Display(Name = "Password")]
public string Password { get; set; }

I am trying to use the ASP.NET regularexpressionvalidator to apply a password policy that enforces the following policy:
Password should include at least 6 characters, at least one small letter, at least one Capital letter, at least one number, and at least one special character. Here is the expression:
^.(?=.{6,})(?=.d)(?=.[a-z])(?=.[A-Z])(?=.[@#$%^&+=!-_()?]).*$
The strange thing I found is that it works fine except with the following scenario, If I use all the required combination without special character such as Hello123" it finds it as valid password. below is the controls used for testing.

I have an problem with dropdowns and validation. With MvcValidation it worked perfectly, since upgrade to jquery the validation for the dropdowns fail. Example:
[Code]....
If I click the submit button als fields are validated, except the dropdowns...why?
Btw. how do I add dynamic validation for dynamic forms in jquery? I know that it was something like class="required" as an html attribute in former days.

I have a webform in which asp.net validation controls are implemented.
1. Fill the fields.
2. Press the Save button.
3. Page is validated.
4. If page not validated errors are shown.
5. If page is validated then it post back and the data is saved.
6. After that the Save button is disabled during postback.
