MVC :: How To Store Active User Object
Apr 8, 2010
I'm not using the microsoft MembershipProvider system. I'm open to using bits and pieces of it.
In Web Forms I stored a lightweight User object in the Session Variable.
[Code]....
Then whenever I needed the full force of a user object I would ask my repository to return me the User object that matched (be it from the database or cache).
Where do I store my LightWeightUser object for the session's user in MVC, I see I still have access to Session, but is there a better place?

I want to store a X509 certificate to a user store in Novell viathe ".NET C# LDAP Library" that Novell has developed [URL]I can store different entries like givenName, commonName, mail, description etc. etc. Everythings works fine :)But I can't store a certificate correctly because the final encoding of the certificate will be failed.I've tried to send the entire certificate as HEX and Base64 in strings and bytes but the final encoding will still be failed.
[Code]....
So my question is:Anyone who knows how I should encode the certificate before sending it?

I have an ASP.NET application that needs to remember some info about a user (and what company they are from) across pages, within a session. I imagine this is a requirement of just about any ASP.NET application of a certain size. I've used a few different approaches over the years. In the past, I've passed around an id in querystring parameters like so: [URL] and then instantiated the object on each page (from the database). Another common way of doing it is storing my objects in session variables:
Session["User"] = currentUser; // store at login
User currentUser = (User)Session["User"]; // retrieve on some other page
which saves a trip to the DB, but I worry about memory used if the User object is complex and the site has many concurrent users. I have recently inherited an application that uses public properties on the master page, like this:
Master.theUser = currentUser; // store at login
User currentUser = Master.theUser; // retrieve on some other page
This saves the cast, and looks more readable to me I think, but I don't know if it's better or worse performance-wise. It also has some logic in the getter where if the private value is null, it tries to get it from the Session variable, though I'm not sure if that's never used (or used every get!?) or what. My latest idea is to use my page class. I have a custom page class derived from the standard System.Web.UI.Page base class. It includes objects like CurrentUser as public properties. This seems to work OK. I like it even better. But I really don't know what's going on under the covers. Can anyone give an opinion on which approach is better and why?
Update: I've done some checking use trace.axd and Trace.Write and it looks like neither the masterpage version nor the custom page class version "remember" the values between pages. The "get" methods have a line of code that checks if the User property is null, and if so, reads it from the session variable. This happens when a page accesses the property (Master.User or the derived class's this.User) for the first time on a given page, then subsequent requests can get the value (without going to the session variable). So thus far the best solution looks something like this:
public class MyPage : System.Web.UI.Page
{
private User user;
public User User
{
get
{
if (user == null)
{
user = (User)HttpContext.Current.Session["CurrentUser"]; //check if session[CurrentUser] is null here and log them out if so?
}
return user;
}
set
{
user = value;
HttpContext.Current.Session["CurrentUser"] = value;
}
}
}
Then on any webpage.aspx.cs, you can do something like this: UsernameTextBox.Text = User.FullName;

I have read countless forums and found nothing so for so apparently what I need is an unusual request.I need a code snippet that will iterate through an AD domain account and display all properties for a given user.Has anyone ever built such a script?
If there is a code snippet that displays just the available properties of a user object, this would be sufficient. I am trying to build an application to add users to our LDAP and need to populate all our specific values however I don't have the specific property names to populate.

I have an update panel within it i have my activeX control, below it i have a dropdown that you make a selection from, once you make a selection im trying to pass in different paramters, which really are just the source of the control, since everything else will be the same.. but when i make a selection, the control disappears..
If i remove the update panel and make a selection the control is still visable on the page, at the moment, i dont have much setup, im just trying to get the page layout and framework setup adn working, then i can start plugging in my datasource so actual data is being passed in..
I do have a trigger associated with the updatepanel, but with or without it it still causes the control to disappear..
Just to be clear, it disappearing when i view the page in my browser and make a selection, not within VS. Whats weird is that ONLY that control disappears, the rest of the controls on the page stay visible, the dropdown and buttons.

Except session and viewstate or a control with a value (including sqldatasource).Is there a way to store the value(s) in an object that will not loose the value if the page refresh?And also the best practice to hold sensitive value? I'm using viewstate with encryption for now but if p.e., have to hold a dataset then the page size will rise dramatically.

My System Have 2 Computer:
Frist Computer act as A domain Controller that has a Active Directory,RADIUS Server,DHCP and DNS
Second Computer act as A Web Server and use Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008
I create a website to add user in active directory. I have 3 file:
1.Default.aspx - Let user fill their privacy information
2.ViewRegisterdata.aspx - Let user confirm their information before it's added to active directory. In this file,there is a Viewregisterdata.aspx.cs which collect user information and send to Class1.cs when users click confirm button.
3.Class1.cs - Do the process in adding user in active directory
I have a problem with a second and third files. When I run the website and go to a second page that is a ViewRegisterdata.aspx and then press a confirm button,it shows an error.
Although I inactivate a code section that do adding user to active directory and write a code to show a value that is sent from A ViewRegisterdata.aspx,It still shows a ViewDataregister.aspx and not show a Windows console.It seems it cannot send user information from a ViewRegisterData.aspx despite I include a Class1.cs into the file already

Does the DateTime object stores the CultureInfo with it, or you need to use the Formatter to format the DateTime according to current culture ?
I have a class property that retuns a DateTime. Within that property I am setting the DateTime object with current culture information using CultureInfo object. Below is the code for class property I am using:
public DateTime PrintedQuoteDate {
get{
DateTime printQuoteDate = DateTime.Today;
// cInfo = CultureInfo object
return Convert.ToDateTime(printQuoteDate , cInfo);
}
}
So my question is when I will use the above property in my code, will it have the corrosponding culture information that I am setting in its get method, or I will have to use the same CONVERT code for formatting date time. The restriction here is that the Property should return only DateTime type.
