MVC Nhibernate Entity Mapping For Dropdown List?
Apr 30, 2010
I have a dropdown list on an ASP.NET MVC project that I am pretty sure is not binding to my model because of my nhibernate mapping. I have tried many variations on the asp mvc side resulting in this post here.
MVC side of things seems fine I believe the issue may be that my object is trying to bind, but my mapping is out of whack.
My mapping is:
<many-to-one name="Project" lazy="false"
class="AgileThought.ERP.Domain.Property.Project"
column="ProjectGUID" />
My View gives an error saying that the GUID from the dropdownList selected value is not valid. Which I think may be that it is trying to push the GUID into my related project object.
The value 'fd38c877-706f-431d-b624-1269184eeeb5' is invalid.
My related project list binds to the dropdown list just fine, it is just not binding to my models Project entity.

I am mapping a stored procedure to an entity by right clicking on the entity (in the .edmx) and selecting "Stored Procedure Mapping." This brings you to a Mapping Details - "Name of Entity" Window that allows you to select the insert, update, and delete stored procedures associated with the Entity. It also maps the stored procedure parameter to the Entity "Property" (Column).
I'm gettin an error "error 2042: Parameter Mapping specified is not valid." The cause of the error is fairly obvious, in the Insert stored procedure that has been selected, a 'CHAR' parameter is being mapped to an Int32 Entity Property. I altered the stored procedure parameter to match the entity, I deleted the stored procedure, readded, and reslected it as the Insert function. I also cleaned, validated, updated model from database. No matter what I do, the parameter list in the mapping details doesn't reflect the change to the stored procedure. It's stuck on a char --> int32 mapping, even though it has been changed, like it's buried deep in meta data some where.

I'm trying to keep track of employees in my database. I have two tables, Employees and Departments. The Employees table contains a foreign key relationship with Departments through a column named DepartmentID.
Here's my entity:
[code]....
I have a page that contains a form to add an employee. I'm passing the entity to my view page, and calling <%: Html.EditorForModel() %>
The problem is that the view creates a textbox for the DepartmentID.
How can I force the view to display a dropdown for DepartmentID that contains all the Departments in my database as the dropdown's list items? Is there a way to do this by just adding a metadata attribute to the property in my entity?

I'm working on a RoleProvider in .NET, using Fluent NHibernate to map tables in an Oracle 9.2 database.
The problem is that the many-to-many table connecting users and roles uses a primary key generated from a sequence, as opposed to a composite key. I can't really change this, because I'm writing it to be implemented in a larger existing system.
Here is my UserMap:
public UserMap()
{
this.Table("USR");[code].....
Yet, this is giving me the error:
Type 'FluentNHibernate.Cfg.FluentConfigurationException' in assembly 'FluentNHibernate, Version=1.0.0.593, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=8aa435e3cb308880' is not marked as serializable.
Is there a simple fix to allow this HasMayToMany to use my PersistentObjectMap extension? I'm thinking I may have to add a convention for this many-to-many relationship, but I don't know where to start with that, since I've just started using NHibernate and Fluent NHibernate only recently.
EDIT: I think I've found a possible solution here: http://marekblotny.blogspot.com/2009/02/fluent-nhbernate-and-collections.html
I'll try the above method of creating an entity and a class map for the linking table and post my findings.
EDIT 2: I created a linking entity as mentioned in the above blog post and downloaded the newest binaries (1.0.0.623).
This helped me discover that the issue was with setting lazy load and trying to add roles to the user object in a completely new session.
I modified the code to move OpenSession to the BeginRequest of an HttpModule as described here. After doing this, I changed my data access code from wrapping the open session in a using statement, which closes the session when it is finished, to getting the current session and wrapping only the transaction in a using statement.
This seems to have resolved the bulk of my issue, but I am now getting an error that says "Could not insert collection" into the USR_ROLE table. And I'm wondering if the above code should work with a UserRoleMap described as:
public UserRoleMap()
{
this.Table("USR_ROLE"); [code]....
Hibernate's documentation for many-to-many relationship suggests creating an object to maintain a one-to-many/many-to-one, as in an ERD. I'm sure this would be much easier with conventional naming standards, but I have to stick with certain abbreviations and odd (and not always properly-implemented) conventions.

I want to bind a field in a View to a property in a ViewModel. The object is "Program" and has the properties "Name" and "Level". So the user should be able to set the name of a program and the level of experience he/she has with this program.Program is a table in an Sql Server database, and is accessed through Entity Framework. So it would be easy enough to bind the Level property in the ViewModel to a textbox:
@Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Level)
But I want a dropdownlist with a limited number of levels (1-5). So how do I do this and still have the dropdownlist bind to the ViewModel property?

I am having a problem mapping a many-to-one relationship from an abstract base class mapping to a concrete union-subclass. Example:
public abstract class Entity
{
public virtual Guid ID {get; set;}
public virtual string Name {get;set;}
public virtual User OwnerUser {get; set;}
}
public class User : Entity
{
public virtual string UserName {get; set;}
}
I have a base abstract class for all of my database objects. I am mapping these classes with the Entity class as the abstract mapping class and the User as a union-subclass. When creating the configuration object, no errors are thrown and the Schema exports just fine. However, the field to the OwnerUser just won't show up in the database for all of the concrete classes. Here is an example of how the mapping looks
<class entity-name="Entity" name="Entity" abstract="true">
<id name="ID" type="guid">
<generator class="guid.comb"/>
</id>
<property name="Name" />
<many-to-one name="OwnerUser" column="ID" entity-name="User" />........
I am also using an Oracle XE instance as the database backend. If this isn't enough information to properly answer the question, let me know and I will add what I can.

I hope I am asking this in the right forum as I need an answer quick. I have a table in my database called PersonalData. In my application I have a model for PersonalData that looks like this:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations;
using System.Globalization;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.Mvc;
using System.Web.Security;
using System.Data.Entity;
using System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration;
namespace MyApp.Models
{
public class PersonalData
{
[Key]
public Guid PersonalDateGuid { get; set; }
[Required]
public Guid fkUserGuid { get; set; }
[Required]
public int fkProviderId { get; set; }
[Required]
public int SourceSystem { get; set; }
[Required]
public int DataType { get; set; }
[Required]
public int ModifiedDateTime { get; set; }
public int ValTinyInt { get; set; }
public int ValInt { get; set; }
public float ValDec { get; set; }
public string ValStr { get; set; }
public int Sync { get; set; }
}
}
When I try to add a new record it tries to automatically pluralize the table name and gets an error that says "{"Invalid object name 'dbo.PersonalDatas'."}"
So I want to do a mapping in my dbcontext class like so:
[Code]....
But I keep getting a design time error:
Error 1 'System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration.EntityTypeConfiguration<MyApp.Models.PersonalData>' does not contain a definition for 'MapSingleType' and no extension method 'MapSingleType' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration.EntityTypeConfiguration<Myapp.Models.PersonalData>' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
[Code]....

I'm having a trouble figuring out how I am going to map my business objects. I found this little mapper using reflection with a little modification :http://www.simple-talk.com/dotnet/.net-framework/a-defense-of-reflection-in-.net/Above works fine and fill out my Business objects properly. But what if I have relationship on the Business objects class like for example :
[Code]....
then a User Class will have a relationship with Roles like :
[Code]....
Assuming there are columns on the database that have the RoleID, RoleName, UserID, UserName by Joining the 2 tables. The problem here is that the Mapper doesn't map the Roles properly since the Mapper will expect a Column Name "Role". I tried also inheriting the roles instead of instantiating it but it doesn't work either.I'm using a 3-tier Architecture (including a sublayer "Business Objects") and List<T> combo.

I have a stored procedure that search a view using full text.
I'm trying to map the results to an existing Entity (Sales), where I mapped the column MivType to SaleType (as it makes more sense, and I want to keep db names away from my web site). The stored procedure is mapped to a Function Import, and I've defined its ReturnType to Sales.
This work well as long as the entity has the same property names as fields names.
Here's my problem: when I change the property's name, I get the following error after running the imported function:
The data reader is incompatible with the specified 'Model.Sale'. A member of the type, 'SaleType', does not have a corresponding column in the data reader with the same name.
I can fix this if I change the property 'SaleType' to 'MivType' on the entity, but why should I do that? Isn't that what the mapping is for?
This means I have to use the exact same names on the stored procedure and the entity, so in effect, the mapping is ignored (I have names like YzrName, MivYaad, etc, and I don't like it).
Is there a simple way around this? I don't want to use the db names on my application, and prefer not to change the stored procedure...

I am stuck at this point "Displaying a dropdown list of Categories with a --None -- Option. I want the gridview control to display 2 dropdown list one in read-only mode and the other in edit mode. When a record is in read-only mode, the dropdownlist's enabled property will be set to false."When it's on a read-only mode, it doesn't display the selected Category. it shows but the "No Category". When i click on edit to edit or change category, it doesn't display the selected category.

I have 2 drop down lists.I have a very simple dropdown list #1 that diplays a title and holds an id value which is a GUID.I know it is getting this value and sending this value as I tested sending it to a label.I have the dropdown list #1 to autopostback to dropdown list #2 that "Is supposed to get" another title and value based on the GUID value of the first dropdown list. for some reason it wont return anything. I have done 100's of these but never based off a guid value.I assume the value needs to be converted to guid before selecting it in the second dropdown list.How can I do this? or is there something I am missing?
