Reading A File Into Memory And Then Reading It One Line At A Time?
Mar 7, 2011
I know this is probably a pretty easy thing to do and it is if I can upload the file and store it onto the hard drive of the server. What I need to do is read the text file into memory and then parse through it one line at a time. Anyone have any code that demonstrates that?
We're converting a Classic ASP site to an ASP.NET site. One function was to upload a 'template' of data in CSV format for importing into the database. There were several different record types in there (the first field always indentifies the type of data).
The task was to get the CSV into a DataTable so it could be validated (new project is to have MUCH better validation rules)
The code seemed pretty straightforward - watered down (taking out comments, Try/Catch, etc) it is as follows:
Dim da As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter Dim cn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strDirectory & ";" & "Extended Properties=""Text;HDR=No;FMT=Delimited;""") Dim cd As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM " & strCSVFilename, cn) cn.Open() da.SelectCommand = cd da.Fill(dtData)
The DataTable (dtData) is populated, but only starting with the second line of the CSV file DESPITE the fact that "HDR=No" is in the connection string. What am I missing here?
I have an input type, so a text box which has a browse button next to it. When it is clicked, the file that is selected has it's full path placed into the text box.
Now that I have the path to the file in the textbox of the input type, I want to load each line of this file into a textbox that is able to handle multiline text.
I don't want the file to be uploaded to the website. I just want to contents of the file read and placed in a textbox all with one click on the browse button.
but when I tried to add the service reference to the silverlight app, the Add Service Reference window would show me that there was a service file, but the node wouldn't expand to show the rest of the files that contain the services and what not. I got this error instead:
"An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately."
"Parser Error Message:There is no service behavior named 'AdventureWorks_WebServer.Service1Behavior'."
"Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:55579/Service1.svc'.
The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error.
If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again."
im using sap crystal report version 13.0.2000.0. i've 27,000 records to be printed but when i run my application the exception error is displayed "Out Of Memory".. i've my appliation in VS2010 and OS is server 64bit and 4GB RAM..

I've been trying for ages. How do you read a csv into c# with line breaks and nested quotes. At first I was looking for paired quoted to denote a value, but you can have nested quotes!
I have an xml file as shown below. In that the MailBody has contents stored in tabular form. In that table I have a column 'Description' which needs to preserve line breaks and paragraph format if user input is in paragraphs.
At present that column displays data as one whole paragraph even if user enters data with line breaks by Enter key.
1. I know about collections but I dont remember the precess. I know you drag a sqldatasource control on the form(Select everything in the database ie. selct *) and then delete it. But how do I use it i code.
Example. I need to select services where country=canada from the Agencies table.
2. I know how to manually pull data from an access database using the code below. I want to know how to pull data from a sql database just like the one below.
3. explain the difference between Collections and manually pulling it like the one bellow?
I would like ask you for some ideas how can I write mechanism that will be automatically read files from folder. I don't know how to schedule the write task. I want to check for new file everyday and if the new file is in the folder read it.
I need to read a rtf file and then display the same in div tag. and a normal html text box after reading the content i get to see rtf formating special characters Is there any way that i can remove these special formating characters?
I have a webform with 6 controls (3 drop downs, 2 text boxes, 1 file upload box). User makes selections, chooses a pdf file to upload, then clicks on a submit button which uploads the data and pdf file to a SQL database. Everything works good up to this point, data is uploaded, pdf is sent to database as binary data. Problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get the form to "re-read" (for lack of a better word) the database, it looks as though a new record was not inserted although it was. There is a field for "ID" that shows what the record ID will be (the next greatest number to the previous record) and that field does not increment unless I stop running the web app and restart. I've included the code behind for the button_click event:
In my application, i have one fileupload control which will take excel file. I want to read this excel file and want to store in datatable. How will i do this. I am using visual studio 2008.
I am looking for an accordion menu code sample to load it from the xml file rather than hardcoding the file names in the mark-up. if you are aware of any such menu controls? (something like the one at this link [URL]. it will be nice if I can pin it to the left as well)
I am trying to read a text file from the root of the server. This is what I tried
Code: Dim sr As StreamReader Try sr = File.OpenText("~ est.txt") Label1.Text = sr.ReadToEnd Catch ex As Exception Label1.Text = ex.Message End Try
If I test this locally, I get the error: "Could not find a part of the path 'C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesMicrosoft SharedDevServer10.est.txt'."If I upload it and run the code on the server, nothing happens (Lable1.text does not change).
I would like to find a way to read a txt file (in my case delimited by €). I need to change the order of the columns and also add and remove some columns. My output file should be a txt file delmited by ;.
I tried Jet.OLEDB to read the file and put it into a datatable and then used a stringBuilder and streamwriter to get an output file in .txt format. However. This does not me since IŽ, reading the txt file from start to end and my output will be the same. It does not seem like I can have a custom sql statement when reading the file. The only query that works is
Dim da As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("Select * from 1.txt", TextConn)
I am using more than one files to read and write to the server. Suppose during writing or reading any of files gets error the already stored files need to be rollback or removed from storing. So that the user agin try to write without error. Simply the all of the files need to be stored into the server without error, of error occurs to any of file none of files need to be read/write
