I am finding it near impossible to format a word document into visual studios, is it just me? For example i have a page with loads of bullet point on and im not sure how to show these without it looking rubbish and putting it into a table..

View 4 RepliesI have a client who needs to paste sections of Word documents into my SQL Server 2005 database. There are paragraphs and bullet points within the text that has to all go into the same field. When I copy and paste the text straight from Word the bullet points are displayed as dots but not as a list, i.e. the text is wrapped continuously and the formatting is lost. I have built a web front end in ASP.NET 2.0 using formviews for data display, editing and entering. If I use a Access backend the text will display correctly if the bullets are replaced with <li> tags - a bit tedious for the user of course. In SQL server I am getting a security warning that stops any HTML code to be pasted into a field. I thought of using stylesheets but even this is difficult.

View 2 RepliesOne button I always had on the 'HTML Source Editing' toolbar was Format Document, as found in the Edit menu, however in VS2010 it isn't visible. If I go to add it, it doesn't exist in the options.The toolbar currently holds Format Selection, Decrease Indent, Increase Indent, Comment, Uncomment, Schema and accessibility.I bring up the Customize dialogue box (Add or Remove Buttons/Customize), then in the Commands tab I click Add Command... In the Add Command dialogue box, I choose Edit from the categories list on the right and yet in the commands list, Format Document isn't there anymore as it was in VS2008.Yes I could just use the Edit menu command, or even the keyboard shortcut, but that's too long-winded and the toolbar button is now sorely missed.Has this been somewhat arbitrarily removed from VS 2010 or is it hidden elsewhere?
View 4 RepliesFor years now, I always added the "Format Document" icon to my HTML Editing toolbar. It always was difficult to find this in VS2008 and VS2005. It seem it has been completely eliminated in VS2010.Does anyone have any idea where is might be in the Customize toolbar myriad of commands?I realize it is available under the Edit drop down menu as well as keyboard command Ctrl K, Ctrl D. But is is just so much more helpful to put it on the toolbar.

I have requirement where I need to allow users to upload a Word document with place holders for certain fields which can be found in the database. This will be their template. For example the place holders might be prepended with @@ or something. For example
Dear @@Title @@Lastname
They then can grab a record and hit export to Word document. This will then let them choose the template. They can select the template and then click continue. I will then get the template and replace the @@Title with the title field in the database for the selected record. I am not sure where to start or what components I need to do this.
From my initial investigation it seems that I can do this with the new open XML standard for Office 2007. So perhaps I should read in the template and save all the contents to a db table somewhere. Then when the use wants to export I get the contents again and then do a search and replace for the @@ placeholders and link them properly. Then save the document to the output stream again which will then bring up the save dialog on their browser.
I am using ASP.Net MVC and am in a hosted environment. I was also maybe contemplating dynamically creating a new View type and dynamically creating new views when the user uploads a template. Not sure that this approach will work though.

Basically I have been working on a simple web application using C# on VS2008. The application contains a private folder which contains web forms that can only be accessed after logging in as admin. When I run this application through Visual Studios it works fine and I am able to login and view the private database pages.

I don't see any .csproj or any .sln files.
If I want to load up this website on my localhost, how would I go about doing it? Am I supposed to load up Visual Studios and "import" these *.aspx.cs and *.aspx file?

I recently found out that you can only do full text indexing with the advanced series of SQL Express and I managed to download and install it on my machine. My question is how do I integrate it with Visual studios 2010 so that I can do the full text indexing ?

View 2 RepliesAnybody else find the web page editor for Visual Studios (2008) to be horribly buggy? Almost every other time I try to debug a program, it sputters around for a minute or two, and then I get this error: Unable to Start Program [URL]. Element not found. Sometimes it happens two or three times in a row, and each time it leaves a hung browser I have to go and end the process for and then try again, so it can get up to 10 minutes at times just to get the damn debugger going. Really frustrating, especially when it's at the end of the day and I'm trying to finish things up.
