SQL Server :: Attach Express Database To An Enterprise Server

Jan 25, 2011

I developed a asp.net app on my development machine using VWD 2010 and used a SQL Express 2008 database.

I've moved my app to the production web server. I have a separate database server running SQL 2000 Enterprise that I would like to use for my production data. I've detached and copied my .mdf and .ldf files from my development/sql express box to the production/sql enterprise box and have tried to attach them in the enterprise manager but I get an error "Error 602: Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 19, object ID 1, index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes." and the attach process fails.

What do I need to do to use this 2008 express database on an 2000 enterprise server?

Does anyone know how to use the database for server instead of local project?

Visual Studio :: Upgrading SQL Server Express 2005 To SQL Server Express 2008?

Jan 8, 2011

After I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard edition, then I upgrade "SQL Server Express 2005" to "SQL Server Express 2008 SP2". Process upgrading SQL Server Express 2008 was going succesfully (none of the process was fail).

But when I create a New Website I could not add a new item "SQL Server Database" into my website file. Because Visual Studio always rejected any new "SQL Server Database" by giving message below (underline):

This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported.

SQL Server :: Attach SQL Express Database - What's The Correct Syntax To Use In Web.comfig

Nov 28, 2010

In my web.config, I have attached a SQL express database .. as follows: <add name="eHNDBConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:UsersDell-XPS1330DocumentsVisual Studio 2005WebSitesWebSite4eHNDB.mdf";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I need to upload this to my web server so I need to remove the local link .. I tried:

"eHNDB.mdf"
"~/eHNDB.mdf"
"~eHNDB.mdf"
"/eHNDB.mdf"
"eHNDB.mdf"

.. but i keep getting this error message when i try to open the page that accesses the DB. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file eHNDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.

1- what is the correct syntax to use in my web.comfig?

2- when online, i'm gonna be using sql server and not sql express .. what considerations / changes should i apply as well?

App Wont Share Database With Sql Server Management Studio Express?

Oct 15, 2010

I have an ASP.NET 3.5 app with a SQL 2005 Express .mdf database file in its App_Data folder. Lets call that Foo.mdf. On its own the ASP.NET app can connect to the database with no problems. So far so good. Then, if I install Sql Server Management Studio Express on the server and start it, it finds the local SQLEXPRESS instance and connects to it, but doesn't show Foo.mdf in the list of databases.

So I try and Attach Foo.mdf by right-clicking on databases and selecting Attach.. and finding the .MDF. This fails with a vague error:

CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 32(error not found)
while attempting to open or create the physical file
'C:inetpubwwwrootFooAppApp_DataFoo.mdf'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5123)

If I stop my ASP.NET site in IIS, then the attach does work, but then when I restart my ASP.NET app, it can't connect to Foo.mdf. So it looks like SQL Express 2005 will only let either my app or Management Studio connect. This seems really crap - surely Sql Express should allow more than one connection? I was expecting it to behave like regular Sql Server.

Asp.net - IIS7 Application Using Wrong SQL Server 2008 Express Database?

Sep 8, 2010

I'm stumped. I have a client site on a virtual private server - Windows Web Server 2008 SP2, IIS7, SQL Server 2008 Express.I'm trying to setup a second web application, to allow him to review updates prior to their going live. I've created the web application in IIS7, and I have added a second database to SQL Server. The second db is essentially a copy of the production db, with 'DEV' prefixed to the database name and a few new fields in a few tables. My production site works fine. However, the test site comes back with an SqlException: "Invalid column name 'version'." This is one of the new fields - which leads me to believe that my dev site is referring to the production database, and not the dev database. Connection strings, however, do point to different databases (although the login is the same for both):

Visual Studio :: Can't Create Database - VWD2008 SP1 Asking For Sql Server Express 2005

Mar 24, 2010

I've used the WebPI to install SQL Server Express 2008 and VWD2008 SP1. I made sure to install SQL Server first then install VWD. Whenever i use VWD now though and try to add a new SQL Server Database to my website i get the error message "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly."

I'm a little stuck as to where to proceed with this error. I've un-installed everything web development related and re-installed and still get the same error. I was under the impression that VWD2008 SP1 required SQL Server Express 2008 and wouldn't work with SQL Server Express 2005 so can't understand why it now wants it to be installed.

How To Access To SQL Server Express Database To A Specific User With Visual Studio 2008 Tools

Mar 18, 2011

I'm trying to access an SQL Server Express database out of an ASP.NET HTTP request handler. The handler is run under ASPNET account and uses "integrated security" in the SQL connection string and so I get an error message saying that login for ASPNET account failed and so I can't access the database. This seems to be a very common problem and most answers say "grant access to you database to user ASPNET".

I only have Visual Studio 2008 and I can't find how to change access permisssions for a database. Specifically I use Tools->Server Explorer and I can see all the tables in the database but can't find how to change access permissions. How do I change access permissions to my database using tools shipped within Visual Studio 2008?

My question is - Is it possible to get a working copy of BIDS by downloading SQL Server Express and Visual Studio Express?
