I'm trying to make a client-server app using SOAP. The communication btw the client and gateway will be done using SOAP messging. I was wondering if it's possible for the gateway to communicate with my backend servers using SOAP as well(blue lines)? will I need to create a second interface/port for the gateway and servers so they can communicate. or is there an easier way to do it bust still using SOAP

Currently I am facing a problem to communicate with a server that enable ssl...
normally we are using TCPClient to send and receive data from server, but now the server that I trying to connect to, need SSL and certificate..
I was trying to search at google and most of the solutions i got it is use SSLStream and X509Certificates. and I have another question, Am I need to create Client and Listener in order to communicate with that server? Because I had reviewed all the sample and they didn't attach the private key when send request to server.

I am developing a web application and need to continue development while travelling. I have SQL Server express installed on my desktop and my laptop but (obviously) the server names differ on each machine. eg "MydesktopSQLSERVEREXPRESS" and "MyLaptopSQLSERVEREXPRESS".
Anyone know of a way I can use a generic connection string or something so I can simply transfer the solution file from my desktop to my laptop and continue development on the road?

I want to develop an interactive website in ASP.Net and what I mean by interactive is that it has a back-end application to provide real-time logic (which does not follow HTTP's model of Request/Response) and eventually it is provided with dynamic *.aspx pages with an SQL Server database.
And how would the components go together (as a design and as a communication mechanism) to have a scalable application?
EDIT: Ok, the story is as you know, we all are tending to get something more vital than HTTP model, I want my back-end application to be persistent working in real-time, for example, It would have some constant-intervals to do some queries on the database.
The design as I picture it is a server (holding an ASP.Net website, the back-end application and the database), the design may get more hybrid with time. The website is the interactive interface for the users, the website needs (sometimes) intensive calculations and queries which better be handled by the back-end application, then the application delivers the website the info to be wrapped and formatted as HTML markup to be returned the user eventually.

I have a very huge Asp.Net application using Asp.net 3.5 with aournd 3000 pages. Now we need to integrate some Silverlight controls in it. For e.g we need to change the dashborad to incorporate new SL UX. My question is that easy to use these 2 technologies i.e. Asp.Net and SL and both have different projects. Will that be difficult for us to communicate with each of these web applications and SL Application. We are in the middle of making a decision as to how to integrate SL in our exisiting application.
Keep in mind that its out of the question that we can shift the whole application to SL. We must have to stick to asp.net 3.5 or 4

We are working on a web application that is distributed across 3 load-balanced web servers. A lot of the data we retreive via NHibernate is stored in System.Web.Caching.Cache.
System.Web.Caching.Cache does a lot to increase the responsiveness of an application, but there are a few issues that we don't exactly know how to resolve, such as
when a user requests data on server1 that data is cached on server1, but for their next request, the load balancer might direct them to server2. That data they requested on server1 is no longer available, and server2 will have to request it from the database again. If the user does something on server1 to invalidate the cached data, the cache is flushed on server1. However the original cache is still available on server2 & server3, so when the user submits a subsequent request and they're directed to either of the other servers, they are going to be presented with invalid data.We have applications that update data (such as performance data) on a regular basis. When the performance data is updated we want to flush this from the cache so when a user requests the data again, they're presented with the latest data. How can we get these applications to flush the cache on 3 web servers?
What are the best ways to resolve these issues?
Should we have cache stored on a separate server such as we could to for HttpContext.Session with a SessionState server?
Is there a way for us to set a Cache Dependency on the Cache in the other 2 servers?
Is it possible for us to implement a Cache Dependency on the actual database tables or rows? When these change the cache is flushed? -- or could we set up a database trigger to flush the cache somehow?

I'm hosting a few .net sites, some collapse with this error on an almost daily basis. I've moved the sites between servers, but sites on all the servers seem to be affected, so it is not just a bad install.This problem is acknowledged by MS and they have a fix here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975410But they don't provide the fix they talk about.Does anyone have any way to resolve this that does not need Microsoft (since Microsoft clearly aren't bothered to fix it)?

I have a local database which is updated regularly. Now I need a good way to reflect the local database changes into the remote sql server. Both the server have same database structure.
All the above pocess should work automatically from the local database server because I need to update the remote one so that the website visitor can get the updated results in the morning.I need a detailed description/ procedure to accomplish the work.

I have developed a Web and windows application, both in C#.NET. Now, what I would like to do is when a button is clicked on a particular page in the web application, a signal has to be sent to the windows app saying a link has been clicked. How could I do this really easily? I would like to stay away from socket programming...
I thought of the web app storing cookies and the desktop application monitoring the cookies folder but that seems a bit clumsy.

I have worked on a timesheet application application in MVC 2 for internal use in our company. Now other small companies have showed interest in the application. I hadn't considered this use of the application, but it got me interested in what it might imply.
I believe I could make it work for several clients by modifying the database (Sql Server accessed by Entity Framework model). But I have read some people advocating multiple databases (one for each client).
Intuitively, this feels like a good idea, since I wouldn't risk having the data of various clients mixed up in the same database (which shouldn't happen of course, but what if it did...). But how would a multiple database solution be implemented specifically?
I.e. with a single database I could just have a client register and all the data needed would be added by the application the same way it is now when there's just one client (my own company).
But with a multiple database solution, how would I create a new database programmatically when a user registers? I have done all database stuff using Linq to Sql, and I am not very familiar with regular SQL programming...
how this could be done (as well as input on whether it is a good idea or if a single database would be better for some reason).
EDIT:
I have also seen discussions about the single database alternative, suggesting that you would then add ClientId to each table... But wouldn't that be hard to maintain in the code? I would have to add "where" conditions to a lot of linq queries I assume... And I assume having a ClientId on each table would mean that each table would have need to have a many to one relationship to the Client table? Wouldn't that be a very complex database structure? As it is right now (without the Client table) I have the following tables (1 -> * designates one to many relationship):
Customer 1 -> * Project 1 -> * Task 1 -> * TimeSegment 1 -> * Employee
Also, Customer has a one to many relationship directly with TimeSegment, for convenience to simplify some queries.
This has worked very well so far. Wouldn't it be possible to simply have a Client table (or UserCompany or whatever one might call it) with a one to many relationship with Customer table? Wouldn't the data integrity be sufficient for the other tables since the rest is handled by the relationships?

This issues has been driving me nuts. I am trying to follow the tutorial on [URL] I am trying to connect to a database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The way I do this is by right clicking on the "Data Connections" > Add Connection. Afterwards the Add Connection window comes up, I make sure my data source is "Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). And, I choose a server name; the only server I can choose is DomainSQLEXPRESS. The issue is when I go down to the "Select or enter a database name" drop down box, I do not see my database listed. I have also made sure in the SQL Server Management Studio that I have given my user all the privileges for the database. I know my explanation is kind of vague, but would anyone know the reason why I would not see my database?

Dim A As ConnStr = New ConnStr
With ConnInfo
.ServerName = A.getServerName()
.DatabaseName = A.getDBName()
.UserID = A.getUser()
.Password = A.getPwd()

I have an asp.net mvc 2 application with a SQL Server database accessed by the Entity Framework ORM. Now I found out I had used the wrong datatype for one of the fields in the database - int instead of double.
Now, this is not a big commercial application, but it is nevertheless already in use internally in my company. It works fine, but the users would need to be able to enter decimal values rather than just integers...
So my question is, can I change the type of the field after the fact so to speak, and not lose the data already entered? Of course I would have to change the references to this field in the model and everything that references it, but is it possible at all without losing the data?

I'm stumped. I have a client site on a virtual private server - Windows Web Server 2008 SP2, IIS7, SQL Server 2008 Express.I'm trying to setup a second web application, to allow him to review updates prior to their going live. I've created the web application in IIS7, and I have added a second database to SQL Server. The second db is essentially a copy of the production db, with 'DEV' prefixed to the database name and a few new fields in a few tables.My production site works fine. However, the test site comes back with an SqlException: "Invalid column name 'version'." This is one of the new fields - which leads me to believe that my dev site is referring to the production database, and not the dev database. Connection strings, however, do point to different databases (although the login is the same for both):
