SQL Server :: Working With Geometry Data Type - Error: "Msg 403 - Level 16 - State"

Jul 12, 2010

I have a sql server 2008 database table that has a column of type geometry. I am trying to update the data for a record. The data that needs to be inserted into the database is a POINT location that i get off of two text fields on an .NET form. I pass the values into a procedure to update the record. Below is what I have been trying with no luck. The @lat and @long variables I pass into the procedure as type. Does anyone have a good way to update this data? When I try to compile this code it gives the error: "Msg 403, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UPDATE_LAT_LONG, Line 19 Invalid operator for data type. Operator equals add, type equals geometry."

SQL Server :: A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Sending The Request To The Server?

Aug 19, 2010

I m having a database problem that I couldnt identify. The IIS loses connection to database once in 3 weeks. Once you restart the IIS everything is normal. Looks like IIS is fine because i can go to static pages. When I go to a page that requires database connection I get this error:

A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - Either the application has not called WSAStartup, or WSAStartup failed.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Is this a connection string problem?. because without changing anything if I restart the webserver all is fine. Is this a problem with application state?

Error At The Transport Level When Sending A Request To The Server?

Jun 15, 2010

Strange System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException

Error at the transport level when sending a request to the server. (Provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - Since both ends of the canal there are no processes.)

I've got this exception on my Web Site every time after restarting my SqlServer on simple request like this :

if (System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.IsInRole("Administrator"))

but after I do refresh the page with this codebehind error disappears.

How to handle this error and where it comes from ?

Web Forms :: 3.5 Error: Unable To Make The Session State Request To The Session State Server?

Dec 7, 2010

Have not run the ASP.NET Development Server for a while. Today I copied a production website to my workstation and ran it with VS 2008. The following error message popped up. What is the problem with the ASP.NET development Server on my workstation? The website on the Production server still ran okay.Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of KEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesaspnet_stateParametersAllowRemoteConnection.
If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' as the server name.

MVC :: State Server / Cookieless - Error 310

Dec 23, 2010

For a project (ASP.NET MVC 2 web application) we needed to use cookieless sessions. Furthermore, we use the ASP.NET State service, because the application is hosted on 21 web servers and we need to be able to share the session state. So the default InProc setting is not an option. Actually we enabled the ASP.NET State service on all of the web servers. The application's configuration file contains a custom configuration section which contains a list of the state servers. For example:

[Code]....

We created a class which descends from the sessionIdManager class. Our session id manager uses the session id generated by the base class and prefixes it with two numbers (00, 01, 02...etc). This number represents the index of one of the state servers displayed in the above list. We pseudo-randomly pick one of the state servers in order to balance the load accross the servers. Then we implemented the
IPartitionResolver interface. Our resolver does the following:

Read our custom session idExtract the index which we appended (e.g. 01)Retrieve the information of the state server from the configuration file (192.168.0.102:42424) the state server information (IP & Port) is used to inform ASP.NET where the ASP.NET State server for this session is located. This setup works fine if we work with exactly one state server (e.g. development environment). It also works fine on our acceptance environment (2 state servers). But after we did a test by enabling 21 state servers and deploying the application on 21 web servers things went wrong. Sometimes the site would function correctly, but now and then we receive an 310 error. The browser informed us that the web page has resulted in too many redirects.

We created a new blank ASP.NET MVC site and implemented this custom session management and voila .... reproducable. Monitoring the traffic with Fiddler gave the following results:

A 302 status is returned containing the same location but a different session id: k heb met Fiddler de HTTP trafiek gemonitord en hetgeen ik tot hiertoe heb ontdekt, is dat er bij een request een status 302 wordt teruggeven met daarin dezelfde location maar andere sessionId.Voorbeeld

Thus the chance that a session id for the same server is created is smaller if more state servers are added to the list.

Configuration :: Server Trust Level And Twitter Application Interface - Error "System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, Mscorlib"

Oct 14, 2010

There seems to be an issue with the "Trust" level when executing within a "Cloud" environment. In order for the following app to work it needs a trust level of at least "Medium." This web app is developed using VB.NET 3.5, and Visual Studio 2008. The app works perfectly on my local sever but when deployed/published to the "Cloud" it returns the error: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I have added all 4 required values, ConsumerKey, ConsumerSecret, OAuthToken, and OAuthTokenSecret to the web.config file in the "appSettings" section of the "configuration"

[Code]....

If found that by going to [URL] and signing into the account that is using the application, then go to the "Settings" page, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "API" menu option. Once the API page appears you will clik on the button "2", Register An App. On the right side on the new page, you will see a button "View Your Applications." If you have previously registered your app, click this button, If not fill out the appliction for a new app. Now at the View your Applications page, select the app you want to get the authorization keys for where is says "Edit Details". Now click on the button to the right that says, "Application Detail." Here you will find your Consumer Key and your Consumer Secret Key. On the right side of this page you will see the menu option "My Access Token", click it and you will find your oauth_token and your oauth_token_secret keys! Not that you have all the keys, put them in the "appSettings" section of the web.config file. Add "Dim twConn As New TwitterVB2.TwitterAPI" at the top of the page.

I then created a subroutine where I pass in the Tweet:

[Code]....

This code works great in an enviornment that allows at least a "Medium" trust level. However it appears that many of the "new" hosting envrionments such as "Cloud Hosting" and others do not allow this trust level automatically!However if the trust level is less than "Medium" on your host you will likely receive the error message: "Twitter Returned: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed." If anyone has found a fix for this "Trust Level"

No more details on the filename or the location where the code is trying to find a file. I commented out the application_error method, with a hope that the exception would be thrown when the debug the application, but no errors were thrown. How do i find the source of the error, cos I want to resolve this issue by either putting the file that the application is looking for or by completely removing the code that is referencing the file.

SQL Server :: Receiving An Error - A Network-related Or Instance-specific Error Occurred While Establishing A Connection To SQL Server

Sep 23, 2010

I've created a small website with a simple sqlite database using vwd 2010 .net 4. In dev and test envionments everything works fine, however when i promote to my hosting provider i receive the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.

(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:

For info the environments are set up as follows:

- Dev environment is vwd express 2010 with sqlite mdf attached

- Test environment is windows 7 server, iis 7 with appdomain identity set to network service

State Management :: Session Variable Worked On One Prod Server But Not On Another Server?

We recently migrated a web app from one Prod server (Prod 1) to another server (Prod 2). There is a session varialbe checked inside the page load event of the default master page. I have enabled session state both in web.config as well inside the pagedirective. The compilation went through without any issue. The web app is also running just fine on the server but the log file keeps logging a warning message. There is no run time error.

"System.Web.HttpException: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration."Any idea why this is happening on one server vs other?

Implementing Application Security - App & DB Level (SQL Server 08)

Feb 19, 2010

I am about to deploy an ASP .NET application (developed with LINQ-to-SQL). I have taken following precautions: Database access via user with limited access, however, since application is to access the sensitive data, I can't deprive this limited access user from it Database server is not exposed to external network - is hiding behind DMZ and all external ports are blocked I have done thorough security testing of the web-application; SQL Injections, rights management, illegal data access (via post/get data tempering) Application is operating on SSL

1 - I am using ASP .NET authorization API; any recommendation for avoiding session hijacking (in case someone some-how gets to know the session key). Is there are way to change the authentication cookie less prone to threats? Say like, changing it after every request? (I know I am get very conscious about this particular item)

2 - Data in the database is not encrypted. To make things ultra-secure, I am thinking about implementing transparent data encryption. Can someone share his/her experience or a link about implementing data level encryption with SQL Server 2008 along with pros-and-cons?

3 - Recommendation for storing connection string in web.config. Is using integrated security better then using encrypted database connection string?

Handle Errors At Application Or Server Level?

Sep 28, 2010

When setting up asp.net error handlers for things like 404 errors, it is more 'efficient' to do this in IIS, or handle it in the Global.asax Application_Error event? I know the latter will be called, and I want to log this information in a database, but should I then just return without any redirect and let IIS do the redirect, or would it be better to do a response.redirect inside application_error once we've logged it?

The only problem I'm getting with this piece of code for the Web Services. I'm running both versions at the same time side-by-side and it works fine in 1.1 and doesn't work in 2.0.

URLName = Context.Request.Url.Segments
URLName0 = URLName(0)
URLName1 = URLName(1)
URLName2 = URLName(2)
URLHost = Request.UserHostName
URLStr = "http://" & URLHost & URLName0 & URLName1 &

' Send the 'WebRequest' and wait for response.

Bam! Error! The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

Configuration :: App Runs But When Move It To The Server, Get This Error On Server: ERROR [42S02]

Apr 14, 2010

, I've researched this quite a bit and I'm just not seeing the problem. The app runs beautifully when living on my pc - the app on my pc connects successfully to the SQL Server 2008 Express Database (which sits on a server - not my pc). However, as soon as I publish this application to the server that the SQL Server 2008 Express Database sits on, I get this error when I try to run the application:

ERROR [42S02][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'user'

It's behaving as if it either doesn't know where the table is when the app tries to run on the same server as the database or maybe the app doesn't have permission to hit the database once the app is on the same server as the database. I have connections on my pc and the server defined for this database, I verified that I set up each connection the same. I've also tried connecting using [dbo].[user] and this doesn't remedy the situation either. my connection string is in my web.config and it looks like this:

<add name="directoryConnectionString" connectionString="DSN=directoryProd" providerName="System.Data.Odbc" />

my sql looks like this:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"

connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:directoryConnectionString%>"

ProviderName="System.Data.Odbc"

SelectCommand="SELECT fName FROM [user]"></asp:SqlDataSource>
