SQL Server :: Show Other Columns With Aggregate Function?
Jan 7, 2011
In my query , I have an aggregate function and other columns and a Group By clause where there is a column which I need to show without placing it in Group By clause.
In my query , I have an aggregate function and other columns and a Group By clause where there is a column which I need to show without placing it in Group By clause.
I am not understanding why I am getting the following error (also mentioned in the subject line). I have written the following function in SQL Server 2005:
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.GetCandateID() RETURNS INT AS BEGIN declare @candidate_id int SELECT @candidate_id = max(c.candidate_id) from dbo.candidates c if(@candidate_id is null) set @candidate_id = 1001 else set @candidate_id = @candidate_id + 1 return @candidate_id END
The function compiled properly. I have used the above function like below in the query:
select dbo.GetCandidateID()
I am getting the following error: Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.GetCandidateID", or the name is ambiguous
Is there a way to do this in either scalar function form or in an aggregate function form? The problem I'm dealing with is building a security system with multiple tiers of inheritable permissions. Like you'll inherit certain permissions form the department level and then certain permissions from the supervisor level. I'd like to find a way to produce these resultsFor user permissions I pull these binary values and get these results, (they are sorted by their tree node depth level in the hierarchy.

[code]....
Does it look like I will be stuck with manually compiling the tables of departmentpermissions and supervisorpermissions base on every possible outcome of inherited permissions or is there a way to do this on the fly in an efficient manner?
Error i am facing is :Msg 8668, Level 16, State 0, Line 2Cannot create the clustered index 'RateViewIndex' on view 'NoteToPass.dbo.RateView' because the select list of the view contains an expression on result of aggregate function or grouping column. Consider removing expression on result of aggregate function or grouping column from select list.
I have a table 'tbl' and a column 'col'. The elements are like 1,1,2,2,2,3,4,4. Now I want to show two columns one is the one will contain the distinct values from 'col' like 1,2,3,4.... and second will contain the count for each of them like for above case it will be 2,3,1,2.
hen i run a Pivot query, i receive this error. It looks not harmfull, because query executed successfully and the results arepartially ok. But for some columns, i get NULL values surprisingly. Because i have carefully checked all data in the source for the null values. All NULL values converted to ZERO, so there is no reeason for such error.I do not understand why this error for?
I have a datasource, which includes many columns, idealy, I need use a gridview to show:
1) first 3 columns: template fields, these fields depends on values in some columns of datasource. I use template fields, hard coded. works fine.
2) the other columns. This is I do not know how to do it. In the data source, there are about 10-20 columns data, each time, the # of columns of the data varies. idealy, I need show each of them as a seperated column in gridview. The entire data source may have 30 columns, but some of them are used in 1), and I only want show these 10-20 columns in gridview. Some columns in data source, I may not use them at all. is there a way to do this? or have to seperate them as a detail view style UI?
The end goal is to be able to reference our address book, and give the user the ability to select a Manager, which then in turn would return all the results for all the users under that manager. This information is stored in our Exchange servers address book. ie when you select on a person's name in Outlook, then Organization, you get their manager, so when you select the Manager on this site, I want it to return the results for all of his/her members.
I have a site that has a dropdown list of users who've entered data into a DB. This list is populated with a User's alias when they enter data.This DB of data (including Users' aliases) contains data from users in multiple groups, and I am trying to figure out how I can access our Outlook exchange.
I am using ASP.NET 2008 Visual Basic Language. I tried to create a function that multiply two values from two different tables and get the result presented in a label. The value is retrieved by referring to the primary key after the user selects from a DropDownList which is in another page using sessions.
I tried to build this code in the Load_Page event but it didn't display for me the total.
<asp:LinkButton CssClass="button" ID="btnApply" runat="server" OnClick="btnApply_Click()" OnClientClick="Apply1('btnApply')" > hi ihave this functin in .vb file Protected Sub btnApply_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnApply.Click end sub
I have a DataSet that I bind to a GridView control. I want to only show certain columns from the DataSet. Should I do that with my SQL query (that I use to populate my DataSet) or somehow with a DataView?
I have a DetailsView control, in edit mode, I want to hide and show fields based on a DropDownList's value inside it (the DropDownList makes a postback).
The problem is that when a hide and the show operation is maked, the DetailsView control will make a rebind for it and all the filled fields are cleared!
So i'm currently designing a site ( ) and i've made my skeleton master page.What i've noticed is that the gridview must be cut down a little to fit my 1024x768 design.
Now i have taken a note in the past to look at this but i couldn't find the time so i guess the time is now. What i have problem with is shrinking the columns.If i have a name, say "jack R" and i make a gridview column,say width 15 then the name is included and all is ok.However if i have another name,say "jack the 3rd" then the column will expand to fill the name.So all the grid will expand to the right.I have tried in the past some stuff but it seems that if a value is longer than the column then i expands whatever i do.Also i was surprised to see that only the dates will not expand and go "down" instead of right.At least in the gridview i have.
So the 2 questions.How do i make the gridview columns NOT to expand and if the data needs to show in full then how do i make the data go DOWN and not expand right.I have no problem of the grid expanding downwards but i have a problem of the grid expanding to the right.
Is there any way to hide or show the columns in rdlc local report . I have main report with many columns now i have to hide or show some columns for creating the other reports from the main report.
I have an Excel file called Products.xls .I have Columns A and B, with the titles NAME and QUANTITY.The name of the sheet is SHEET1.The file has about 40 lines.How do i show these data on a Gridview or Listview ?
