Security :: How To Authenticate Multiple Applications Within 1 Aspnetdb Database
Feb 9, 2010
I currently have a website up and running and working correctly with godaddy.com using the out-of-the box authentication with an aspnetdb sqlserver database. I have users on this site and am very hesitant to change anything with this database or the web.config file from the working site for fear of wrecking it
So, my challenge is that I need to authenticate a separate application using the same aspnetdb.mdf file without any crossover to my 1st application. I've noticed that the ApplicationName that is currently in my aspnetdb database for the working application is just "/". I know that I'll need to have 2 separate entries in the aspnet_Applications table to define these two applications and then somehow register those names within their respective web.config files - but wanted to have step by step instructions on how to this so as to not "break" the 1st working application that is already live.
Can anyone point me to a document on what changes I will need to make?
Also, with the default create user wizards I'm using, how will it know to create the new user information with the correct application ID so that the user information from one application is not visible to managers of the second application and vice/versa?
I have more of the same applications. All tables are identical. Each application has a new user. These different applications are located in different domains such as.: domena1.com, domena2.com, domena3.com.Each domain has different users.
For each domain in the web.config change the "ApplicationName", eg.: ApplicationName = domain1, ApplicationName = DOMAIN2, ApplicationName = domain3 ...
Ive searched quite a while to do this.. havent found any revelant answer i already have a database named GAD.MDF with tables inside. However i wanna use the membership API to use the tables generated in the aspnetdb.mdf. Is there a way to generate thoses tables in my own database and then use my database instead? cause many host only enable us to use one database.
I have setup a Web Site Administration Tool for a web application and it work great Now i have another custom application that was built on a different server and site but i want to use the users in the existingWeb Site Administration Tool for authentication and authorisation. So i deployed the custom application to the the same server where the Web Site Administration Tool resides. and just changed the connection string to point to the same database. But when i login with a username and pass it says login no correct.http://myserver/IntranetAdminTool/default.aspx?pplicationPhysicalPath=C:Inetpubmyapplication&applicationUrl=/myapplicationwhen i go to the link above it works and i can see all my usershttp://myserver/IntranetAdminTool/default.aspx?pplicationPhysicalPath=C:Inetpubmyapplication2&applicationUrl=/myapplication2When i go to this link i can't see users as its th new custom application i just moved to the site.
I get error There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem:Server cannot access application directory 'C:Inetpubmyapplication2'. The directory does not exist or is not accessible because of security settings. Is my approach a resonable one and is this possible?
I am trying to modify my current page to have a login. My Current page has the user select a store via a drop down List. This DDL will need to be used as the user name. I would liketo add a Password textbox and the end of the page that the user would just type in there password and hit submit to submit the form is correct or pop-up that passowrd is incorrect and re-enter. I would like to use a Database on my SQL Server to autenticate the passwortd with the store. Does anyone have any sample code that will accomplish this.
I got a username and password field which made by myself and a User database which is all manually made
So now I wish to know how to authenticate user using the username and password data enter by the user and match with the database data to verify user is a member and login?
For what i know, the code should be something like this
SELECT UserName, Password FROM dbo.User WHERE UserName - @UserName
@UserName = ?
How do i assign the value from my username text field to @UserName?
question about how to use MS Access as the aspnetdb.mdb during a login and authentication with the use of VS 2010 with framework 3.5. Reason: My current provider does not support MS SQL and only ms Access and MySQL as databases.I wanted to implement a login and authentication and based upon an artikel about ASP.net 2.0 i saw, that basically Access was the first choice in those days.Is it still possible to use Access? and how to implement this?Is this a matter of using connectionstrings inside web.config with Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 ?Hope that i get an answer which i understand, since my knowledge about these things is not that big.
I am trying to build a security webservice that gets credentials from client application login Pages/forms and returns authorization and token(to manage session) information after authenticating using Membership provider. I am having a problem in Securing my webservice and using LDAP and Database together as an identity store distinguished based on a flag provided by clint applications.
,Second and Third applications are accessed throught the first,So Authentication (form authentication) is happening from the first application only , all are deployed on same IIS with seperate virtual directory
Like
1.Localhost/EmpMananger
1. Localhost/Hr
2.Localhost/Payroll
, I used the same Entires in both <machineKey> and <forms> Elements in webconfig file of all applications,
Applications are working fine and Page.User.Identity are available in all applications but once loginUrl and defaultUrl entry is changed to actual name other than localhost
Eg: localhost/EmpManager/default.aspx To myserver/EmpManger/default.aspx
the authentication ticket is not available in second and third applicaiton
I am using ASP.NET Membership with the default provider. I have a project where there are 3 different applications(seperated by the applicationName). Now I need every user to be able to log in to all the applications, but have a seperate role in each.Is this possible(I dont want to duplicate user details or logins for the same person)?
i am managing three applications .. i hve separate pages in each of these applications for creating users and roles..
can i create a single page where in i can choose for which applications i want to create users..
i am storing the users of each of thse 3 applications in a same database and i hve separate application name for each application in membership provider
How do I use the FormsAuthentication.Authenticate(Username,Password) method to match against the generated Database?..since as far as I have read, it matches the values against the Web.config.
I've set up two ASP.NET applications on a machine, their web.config files contain the same applicationName value in AspNetSqlMembershipProvider item so they share users and roles.
The problem sequence is:
user logs into application A,opens new tab in a browser logs into application B, his login in application A is signed out and vice versa.
Should I use a different approach to sharing login information between two applications?
Need to develop a Web application that will be used to authenticate and authorize internal and external users to log and then re-route to web applications for the organization. The login application should be able to provider smooth integration with any future applications that needs a secured authentication. Should I be using WIF - Claims based Identity/ADFS or asp.net Role membership provider to develop this app.?
We are developing products that will be used in the following way:
Various shared libraries which may be used by multiple products. I anticipate these libraries will mostly need to access string resources that contain error messages/exceptions. Various end-user based applications, designed to run as standalone apps on a PC. They will be required to support multiple languages upon deployment/installation.
Various web-sites which may be required to support multiple languages either at deployment time or possibly at runtime (i.e. minimal or zero downtime). Potentially the site might need to support multiple languages at the same time if being accessed globally.
We may be required to allow customers access to our language files for editing themselves. We would not wish to allow them access to our source code (other than the resource files/dlls) in order to achieve this. We might need to incorporate a facility to log exceptions in our native language (English in this case) and display them in the translated language. This will us debug our customers solutions in the field.
I am already aware of products like RCWinTrans and handling multiple languages in VC++/MFC applications. However, the requirements we are faced with here are more extensive and thus require us to make a few up front decisions that could be difficult to change long term, so ideally we want to make the best choice now. Based on my own knowledge, I have a few questions although I may be missing some tricks with .net that will be happily received. Here are my questions:
What would be best? Put all our resources in a seperate DLL per VS solution OR put the resources in each VS project. The way I see it per solution is easier to manage, modify, and allow customer access. The per project solution seems cleaner though and makes the individual projects more portable. This method would apply to our shared library based solutions as well as our end-application based solutions.
Is it possible to have two seperate resource files loaded at once i.e. if we want to log the exceptions in English but supply them back up the food chain (as a message in an exception) in the translated language? Are there any tricks we can use to automate this like AOP?
In one of my web app's pages, the code behind needs to grab the UserId of the person logged in, so that it can then be inserted into a table which was added to the original aspnetdb.mdf. This table contains a column with a uniqueidentifier primary key which is in direct relationship with the aspnet_Users table; however I seem to have trouble retrieving the UserId. This table contains the additional information of a user which is not included in the provider, and it has a one-to-one relationship with aspnet_Users.
I hope this makes sense. I haven't written any code for it yet; I'm only at the thinking part of this stage. But my mind keeps going blank.(perhaps I need a break from the solution???).
I had a web application. We needed to move it to anotherserver, after we moved that, the membership database (aspnetdb) did not work.....finally i solved the problem, and now I have another problem. although in the web.config enablepasswordretrieval is set to true, and the type is clear, i get error in password retrieval.
I have developed a Silverlight app using forms authentication and the asp net membership, aspnetdb, the whole enchilada. The bug I see is that the password for my users change by them self every bow and then, the way I fix them is by deleting the user and creating them again, this has been I problem all the time.In a post I read the problem was manifesting because I didn't have a machineKey in my web.config, I now do, so I dunno what the problem is this time...Is there a definitive fix to this? can you please provide assistance?
I am using vusiaul studio 2005. I have been unable to use the express database. I can create it, by simply tryign to log in. But if I try to open the ASPNETDB.MDF database itself I get the following error:
"This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later."
I have SQL 2005 loaded on my machine. I would think this would be enough. Anyone know where I can ge the Beta 2 download or does anyone have another resolution for this?
I have an aspnetdb and I have created another aspnetdb for another website, but instead of starting from scratch, I would like to import all the data from the one that has users and other data into the new aspnetdb. Is there a way to do this? Are any tools available?
