Security :: Logon To Page With Already Authenticated Computer And Forms?
May 11, 2010
Ok so I've created a login page that accesses my Active Directory and challenges against it. What I would like, is if a user is logged onto the computer within the intranet with Active Directory Credentials for them to bypass the login to the web page.
However if they are outside of the building on a random computer, they should be presented with a login box just like they are now.

In my ASP.NET MVC project i have following tag in in web.config file
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" timeout="2880"/>
</authentication>
This causes even the authenticated users but unauthorized resource requested users to redirect to logon page. but i need only to redirect this page if user try to access unauthorized page and not already authenticated(logged on) and redirect to custom page.
Is there easy way to do this without writing custom action filter?

I've a default.aspx page in my application's root folder. I added a a page in the root of inetpub that redirects requests to the default page. The idea is that the user need only enter the server name to get to the default page. How can I set things up so that all users have access to the default.aspx and that they only have access to the other pages once they've been authenticated?
I am using Windows Integrated Security and the users are being challenged and authenticated properly. I want them to be able to access Default.aspx without any challenges.
(On a side note which may answer this question, when using WIS does the user *allows* have to be challenged? Isn't it possible to pass through their Windows User and ID without the prompt?)

I have an app that uses impersonation to gain access to a database (on server separate from IIS). The app connects to the database using a trusted connection and seems to be working just fine. However, we get these logon failure events in the security event viewer:
[Code]....
It must have something to do with impersonation because the login failure is for the domain account which my app is impersonating under. But again, the app is working fine so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to stop these logon failures.

I have a site almost finished that uses ASP.Net membership, forms authentication and roles. There are one or two requirements remaining and I'm not even sure how to properly approach one of them.
The site I've created is going to provide service ONLY through SSL, if that matters. Yes, I'll redirect a request that lands on port 80 but the intent is to encrypt everything.
Is there a "best practice" for creating a session with my site, from another site? In other words the company is building a marketing page that has spaces for a login and password. I can find lots of posts about passing a username and password to another
site to start a session, but very few if any about receiving the username and password.
If anyone can point me to an article or posting with a code sample where the login control of a forms-authenticated site is used as the target of a form hosted as part of a different web page/application on a different host, it'd be awesome.
To be clear, the scenario is essentially "brochureware website on a 3rd-party host" providing the visitor the ability to log in to a secure site on a more "internal" server.

Why can I still access files inside a forms authenticated part of my site? Any webpages say that you need to login to view them, but people can still access images by typing in the address bar. I am using forms authentication with my own database, so none of the aspnetdb services like membership roles etc. Is this a bad way to do things because I'm pretty deep into it now and it would be very difficult to change.

I get about 5 minutes of inactivity before a logon box appears for a site I manage. Once logged in, our users must be able to stay logged on all day with no annoying logon popups. This started happening after a change i made to IIS6. We formerly had digest authentication and windows integrated authentication checked and everything worked fine but our users complained because they had to put creds in as <domainuserid>. We want to get rid of the domain requirement. To do this i unchecked windows integrated authentication and added the domain to the "Realm" text box. I can log in now without the domain, and everything works as before but I only get a few minutes before I have to relogon. I tried increasing the connection timout to 36000 and have keep alives checked on the web site property page. I also tried setting the web servers registry setting: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesInetInfoParametersDigestContextCacheTTL to 36000 (ten hours). these changes had no effect that I can see.Our setup:we use SSL and have a test certificate that is expired We are hitting the site on our intranet with IE7 or IE8. The production version of this site is on the internet though.IIS6 on a 2003 serverkeep alives is checkedanonymous authentication is uncheckeddigest authentication is checkedwindows integrated authentication is uncheckedIISRESET was run after each change.

Followed the code sample of Chapter 10 (Logging in) of the Book, Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0, I created an ASP.NET 3.5 website with Forms Authentication. The sample code used Website Administration Tool (WAT) to manage the users, roles, and authorization.When running in the ASP.NET Development server environment, I can first login, then click to open the links for each for the 3 roles.
However when running the sample code in the IIS server environment, I can login but can not open the links for the role subfolders.Clicking each link popped up an error message for opening a login.aspx from the specific subfolder. I don't have a Login.aspx file in each subfolder.The 3 role subfolders were configured as the virtual folders in the IIS Server. Why the sample code worked fine inASP.NET Development server environment, but got an error message from theIIS Server environment? Why an authenticated user can not open the subfolder homepage?

I managed to user to perform multiple log on from other IE window session in my web application if the same log on is currently being used.Unfortunately I have problem to control multiple log on if the user is logging in using tab browsing in the same session. I know this is due to the same session Id but is there any way to trace down to the tab level within the same session?

I have created an intranet site in win 2008 server. Enabled Windows Authentication and disabled Anonymous. I want to get AD logon username(current win logon user).I used HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name and also tried User.Identity.NameI am accessing the site from client machine. I am not getting the client's logon user instead getting the server's logon user. But I want client's logon user only.I just want to get username. I dont need any login screens or bla blaWhen I run in my development system(XP), its working fine.
When I deploy to windows 2008 server, I am getting problem(Getting only the server's logon user instead of getting the client's logon user).So, problem in the server settings. So, any settings I need to set to get this worked?I enabled Windows Authentication for my site in IIS management window. Disabled Anonymous authentication.

I have created an Intranet site using windows authentication based on role membership. It is working great. My Web.config is shown below.
<authentication mode="Windows" />
<roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="AspNetWindowsTokenRoleProvider" />
<authorization>
<allow roles="D820Developers, D820IT, D820Staff, D820Providers, D820Supervisors, D820Directors, D820Interns" />
<deny users="?"/>
</authorization>
Now my user wants the capability of being able to login to the intranet site as another user. For example, IT guy needs to login on a user's system to set some data.
I have created a standard MS Login Page. However when I try to login on the page I get the message
Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again
I do not have a database (aspnetdb.mdf) storing user information but login against the active directory. Can you use the login form with windows authentication without a database?

I've got an MVC 2 app that works fine when launching from VS 2010. However, when I deploy (using File System on the server in the same box) and attempt to run I get the error shown below. The wierd thing is that the Physical path shows: C:inetpubwwwrootWorksheetsSiteWorksheetsAccountLogOn which leaves out the "View" folder in the path.

I was trying to block an IP for all the web applications on our Win Server 2003 R2 and during the changes I enabled "Secure Server (Require Security)" in "IP Security Policies on A Local Computer". I was doing that through Remote Desktop and my session was locked immediately (although I have an administrator rights). Now I cannot connect to Remote Desktop again (it doesn't even reach the login prompt) and my web applications doesn't work for any IP. Any ideas how I can get out of this weird situation?

I'm using forms authentication in my application but i want to get the active directory domain anme and user name of the logon user. is that possible. The IIS Directory security settings are Anonymous Access allowed and Integrated windows authentication ticked. I tried the following but to no avail
Request.LogonUserIdentity.Name (this is returning the machine name and user name used for anonymous access)
System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name -> returning NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE

I have a login page. Once a user is authenticated they are redirected to another page, (called pg2). I don't want just anyone typing in the url and getting to pg2. If they are not authenticated I want them to redirect to login.aspx. To achieve this, I'm using this code below. But it's not working. I am using a nested master page and I don't know if this is causing the problem.

I'm setting up a new web forms app and want to use ASP.NET membership. All my users must be authenticated. What is the best way to implement this?I'd love to deny all unauthenticated users in the root folder of the app by setting this in web.config but then where would I put the login folder? I'd like the login folder to be a subfolder of my root folder so that the URL can be www.myapp.com/login/Another idea is not to put the restriction in the web.config but put the logic in Session_Start in global.asax but I really like the idea of controlling who can see what using web.config files.

I'm running IIS 6.0 on a Windows 2003 server and running an ASP.NET 4 application which connects to an SQL Server 2005 database on another server. I have my Default.aspx page set to Windows authentication with anonymous access disabled.
When I load up the page it asks for a username and password (as expected), I enter my credentials and it comes up with the following error:Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
If I add the following to my web.config file: <identity impersonate="true"/> then I get the following error:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'.
And if I add the <identity impersonate> tag set to true and with my username and password included it connects successfully.
I can't leave this in there as I want each user to connect as themselves, so why is the server not using the credentials that I enter when prompted to connect to the database ?

I got only one ideas to control with the session. When user log into the master page, I insert the current login user and session ID and active status to the SQL table. if user logout manually or close the browser or session expired, I want to change the inactive status. So I can check how many active user are there and the system can prompt the required info to the user. But now, I can't find the soultion to change the inactive
status in above condition.
That doesn't seem right to me. I m sure I 'm making incorrect assumption about this matter.

we want to have a fronend to a custom databasince, since I do have experiance with HTML/CSS and have used VB.NET before, I'm the one that gets to make it.
problem is, the one thing I have not used before is the autentication system in ASP.NET, I want to use single-signon for the system.
and I do have this right now, the only problem I have is how do I check if a user is logged in, and change the page content for autenticated users.
the template does have this:
[Code]....
which does indeed change the login view, problem is, how do I change this to change the pages and menu.this:
[Code]....
has to be a longer menu that also gives options to insert data into the database and/or remove/update the data.
