Get The Value From Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER") When The Application Is Running In IIS?

Feb 13, 2011

I'm not using any built in authentication mechanism, just building a simple intranet site that requires logon.BUT i was asked to retrieve the current windows logon name of the user, and authenticate him with this information.When reading the Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER") information from my box, everything runs fine. But this value is always blank when the application is running with IIS on my server.

Web Forms :: Cannot Obtain Request.ServerVariables From Thread

Aug 15, 2010

I am trying to run this log routine in a separate thread in order to improve page load performance but I am getting an error in the line bellow: "object not set to an instance of a variable".

line error: strTempBrowser = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_USER_AGENT"].ToString();

I am suspecting that Request.ServerVariables are not available during the time that the thread executes. Is there a workaround?

Page Base Class
//STATISTICS
SiteStatisticsLite sStat = new SiteStatisticsLite();
Thread oThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(sStat.AddLog));
oThread.Start(); // Don't wait to finish, just let stat logging to occurr after page loads
public class SiteStatisticsLite
{
//SiteStatisticsLite sStat = new SiteStatisticsLite();

Request.ServerVariables Not Updated When Simultaneous Login From 2 Machines

Dec 7, 2010

I'm using IIS 7.0 on WS2008. I've implemented a simple login page that redirects to another simple page showing the Request.ServerVariables key/values. I'm using the built-in SQL membership provider. The website is on a DEV machine and there are no users on it.

When I login at the same time with 2 different users from 2 different locations (2 different public addresses) then one of the Request.ServerVariables page is the same as the other. That includes the client IP address which is then completely wrong. The authentication as well as the other cookies are wrong as well.

I checked the IIS log and it shows the correct client address as well as the correct login name. If I then reload the wrong page I get the correct data. Is there some concurrency issue in ASP.NET? I disabled the session and caching but I still get the same behaviour.

Security :: Logon_user Not Populated?

Nov 10, 2010

I've been scouring the forumsa and tutorials and I think I'm close. I'm trying to collect the username ofthe user connecting to the webapage (this is an intranet app). My confusion is where you put what. On the default.aspx.vb I have a proteced sub page load and I have this code in it:

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
' Get the Logged on user
' Make sure Anonymous is not checked in IIS Manager
' otherwise this may be empty

[Code]....

I tried to collect to @Logon_User but the username is never populated. I have anonymous access unchecked and windows authentication checked, I have <authentication mode="Windows"/> in my web.config.

Web Forms :: Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_USER"] Not Working?

Jan 6, 2011

I am developing an internal application in .NET which tracks computer name and give access only if they match users which are in a users table in database. When i tested in my local machine and in production server, I am able to get computer name. But for few users the application just don't work since Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_USER"] is returning empty values. For myself and even for few users we can get computer name with Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_USER"] but for few users it returns empty values.I even tried using Request.ServerVariables["LOGON_USER"] and WindowsIdentity funtions, but still getting empty values.

Performance - IIS7 Obtaining CPU Usage Per Request?

Feb 17, 2011

I have an asp.net application running on a production server.

The cpu usage on the server is very high, 80-90%.

Each request however does not appear to be taking too long, unless the cpu has peaked at 100%.

I need to obtain some profiling data in order to determine if the high cpu usage is due to a small number of high cpu requests, or, if it is just general high load.

I can add more cores to the machine and also web farm the app but I will need evidence in order to justify any costs and future proofing the performance.

Is there a way of logging to a file the CPU usage for each page request?

GET Request - Not Returning Pages / Implement The Webrequest Get And Post Methods

Jul 19, 2010

I am trying to implement the webrequest get and post methods. I am accessing a secure site that requires login authentication and was told that instead of sending a login request all the time; login to the site and capture the cookie and use this to send it in the header to get results from the page. In other words let us use google for example. Lets say google required u to login before searching for something. Now I login through my browser and leave the site logged in. Now I send a httwebrequest from my program that includes the cookie authentication details in the request header and get results for say ?param=sports. Now when I increment the page number like &page=3, I am still only getting page 1 results.

Here is some code:

[Code]....

Now I am using the request method GET. This is in the actual request header from the original request.

MVC :: Very Low IIS7 / MVC2 Stress-testing Performance With A Real Simple Request?

Jul 22, 2010

I'm currently developing a few ASP.NET MVC2/.NET 3.5SP1 web-services that are mostly IO bound (execute a couple HTTP back end calls + DB write per request) and i'm getting really poor load-testing performance.

To make sure it wasn't something in my application, I created a brand new ASP MVC 2 project (project -> new -> "ASP.NET MVC2 Web Application", based on .NET 3.5 SP1), added a "TestController" with the following action:

[Code]....

I deployed this on a dual-core test server, running Win2008 and IIS7, Application Pool set to "integrated mode". I have the following in my C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727Aspnet.config:

[Code]....

Just in case, I added the following DWORD key in the registry:

[Code]....

I verified I was able to access my test action from a regular browser and started a load test from another machine on the same network: user load set to 500, no "think" time.

The following is what I observe on the machine running the loadtest after about 8 minutes:

req/s: 5.98avg response time: 78.4 secondsno errors whatsoevernote that the local CPU is 1-2% On the test server, this is what I observe using perfmon:

request current: flat line at 501request execution time: flat line at 1506 ms avg => this makes sense though I don't understand why I see the request coming back after 78 seconds at the other end% proc time avg < 1%request queued as well as all others asp.net v2.0.50727 counters at 0 I don't get it. I believe the expected behavior would be to see about 333 req/s (500/1.5) with a avp response time of 1.5xx seconds...

Trying To Get LOGON_USER Into A Text Field?

Code:

<asp:TextBox ID="userNameTextBox" runat="server"
Text=<%Response.Write(Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER"))%> />

In my action, I am looking if that querystring value exists, and it is returning NULL?? How can this be?

The code:

if(Request.QueryString["ReturnUrl"] != null)

Tracing through the application, it is just skipping the if statement's body i.e. it is NULL.

How can this be explained?

I have redirect page called WindowsLogin.aspx, and a forms-based one called Login.aspx. I'm having difficulty enabling Windows authentication for just WindowsLogin.aspx.
