Security :: SQL Server DB Options Affect Use Of Login Control?

Aug 8, 2010

Why am I not able to login using my login control if I set the sql server database option for Recursive Triggers Enabled to "True"? Whenever I attempt to do so, I receive an error message on attempting to login that states "Your attempt to log in was not successful..."?

Security :: Creating Login/Members Area, Plus Hosting Options?

Jun 2, 2010

I really need some help here. I am brand new to using Visual Studio, but need to create a web page in which you must pay to register and view a Members Only page. I have followed a lot of instructions in these forums, but seem to have hit a wall.

First off, I am not able to use the ASP.NET Configuration under the Website tab. I have already created a New Web Site, selecting Visual C#, then the first option for ASP.NET Web Site. I chose File System for Web Location, etc. Long story short, I have made an ASP.NET Web Site with Basic User Login. The Login functionality is absolutely fine, I am able to view the site locally, register, and log in no problem. However, when I try to choose ASP.NET Configuration under the Website tab, nothing happens. From what I gather, I need to use the ASP.NET Configuration in order to configure membership permissions, and therefore
need to open this part of the program. In the long run, I would like to make it so that User Logins are sent via e-mail to people who have paid me and that wish to use my site, which brings me to my foreboding second problem.

I eventually need to find a web hosting service that will allow me to do all the things I have described. I was going to go with GoDaddy.com, but after doing a bit of research I realized it may not be the best option for what I am trying to do. However, through research, I have realized that VS 2010 is the best program to use for what I'm doing, but I'm in a bind because of inexperience, thus writing this question in this forum.

Any help making this web site would be greatly appreciated, I am definitely in way over my head. I have worked with computers for the last 10 years, so my inexperience is mainly with ASP programming.

Just to let you know, I have VS 2010, Visual SourceSafe, and SQL Server Express installed on this fully capable machine. What I am really looking for is someone to guide me through the process of creating this website, either through pointing me in the right direction or explaining in detail all the next steps that I must take.

Security :: Login Control Not Working On The Server?

Feb 9, 2010

I made a login control in a webapplication with a membership provider and a role provider. The problem is when I enter the username and the password in the login control (on my system i.e localhost) the user authenticated and redirected without any problem, but when I deploy my webapplication with my database on a host server the login control cant authenticate the same user and tells me "Login attempt was not successful".

Security :: Login Control Not Working When Website Published Onto Server?

Apr 13, 2010

I am a newbie to asp.net and have recently been building a web... I have a login control on the main page which when logged in verifys the user and redirects them to the home page... I published this to the server previously and it worked. Today when I tried logging into my system however I got the following error message:-

"Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."

The accounts did work before but since I have uploaded a newer version of my program onto the server the above message is displayed. I have been on many websites and read previous forums with suggesstions to add <roles> in the web.config file however the login control worked before and I have not changed anything on the site apart from a different page that doesnt affect the login.

Few points to make... the login control is using the asp.net configuration pre built tables it generates for you, I have created the users and roles inside of asp.net configuration so it is not a custom membership... I am at a complete loss as how to get my login control to work having tried to insert roles into the webconfig file.

Security :: Secured Site Using The Login Control / Do Not Want Them Redirected Based On Their Login Status?

Mar 24, 2011

I am doing a simple secured site using the login control. I would like users to be redirected to their dashboard page once they log in, but after that if they choose to browse I do NOT want them redirected based on their login status. I am using the generic template provided in VWD with the basic login setup in the template including the tabbed ASP menu control - nothing fancy, nothing custom. This is intended to be something very simple and quick. Here is the code I am using for the page load...

[Code]....

So if I do this code WITHOUT the "IsPostBack", logged in users are always redirected to their dashboard and cannot see the hompage. However with that IsPostBack test, the redirect after initial login doesn't work.

I know this is extremely basic and simple, but I am restarting with this stuff after a year away, and I need a nudge.

Security :: Allow Clients To Login To Website And Connect To Specific Server Based On Login

Jul 5, 2010

We have created a windows application which is distributed amongst our clients. The application uses SQL Server 2008 as the back end and each client uses their own database on their own server. The databases are all exactly the same but each clients data is specific only to them.

We would like to offer our clients the ability to log-in to our website which would then login to their own database so that when they are out in the field they can perform similar tasks to what they can do with the windows app. Each of the clients databases has a user table containing their login details, permissions etc.

Our server is running on IIS and has SQL Server 2008 installed but it only contains our data and nothing of the clients. How should we go about this?

What I mean is do we need to make each client have an additional login to our main server which would then hold each clients individual connection strings etc which would then be used to connect to there specific database and then they would need to login again?? Seems like a nightmare for the user.

Security :: Login Control - Redirect Not Working On Server - Working On Localhost

Feb 21, 2011

I have a login control that is working beautifully on my localhost, but not working on the server. It validates my username & password - and gives me an error if I enter an invalid username/password. However, if I enter the correct username/password, the page refreshes, but does not redirect me to the "ReturnUrl" that I see in the URL. I've seen posts on this, but nothing that I tried worked. I've tried setting the 'MembershipProvider'attribute of the login control. I don't want to set the DestinationUrl...I want it to take what is in the ReturnUrl in the querystring. I don't think it's a web.config issue cuz it works on localhost??

Security :: Login Form Rejecting Valid Login With Forms Based Security And Membership Service

Jan 21, 2010

I've set up a system with forms based authentication and using the asp:Login control. When I put in an invalid password I get the approriate invalid password message. However when I put in a valid password, it does nothing...just returns to the login page again. I'm triple checked the login info. There is no error message, and the invalid attempts counter doesn't increment. When I put a break point in the Login_LoggedIn event of the Login form, it hits it, but User.Identity.IsAuthenticated is false. I'm not 100% sure it should be true at this point, as I'm pretty new to .NET but it seems kind of odd.

My user database is stored in a sqlserver 2005 db that already existed. I've added a new connection for it.In the authorization I have

<authorization>deny
users="?"/><authorization>

DataSource Controls :: Bad Sql Server Sessionstate Affect Other Databases?

Feb 4, 2010

We have a webfarm using a SQL Server 2000 database to store our session state.

On the same SQL server are our databases for the rest of the websites. The databases are separate but on the same server.

Recently I found that one of our developers is using the session very inefficiently. He is storing large datatables within the session for users when he could accomplish the same thing through other methods.

Can this inefficient use of the session state (when stored in SQL Server) affect the performance of our main database when they are on the same server?

The answer seems to be yes, to some degree. However, I cannot find any documentation to back me up.

Security :: Login Control Inside A LoginView Control?

May 17, 2010

I have a image CAPTCHA script (downloaded from the web) that I am placing inside a Login control. I have also place that Login control inside the annonymous template of a LoginView control.

When I try to do the image verification the text box to verify keeps coming up Null and gives me an " NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.

I have the same control working inside the CreateUserWizard control so I am not sure what's wrong.

[code]....

I have tried variations for the LoginView1.FindControl("txtVerify"); but this is the only one I have been able to use with Intellisense that does not cause a build error.

Configuration :: Folder Size On Hosting Server Affect Performance?

Dec 14, 2010

The temp folder size is increased every month as we manually add images.

Except the Temp folder every page is requested from the browser...

We dont use the Temp folder for any other purpose other than archive.

Does this affect the performance of the web application i.e. constant size increase?

how different would it be if we moved the temp to some other location out of the Root?

Security :: How To Use The Login Control

Feb 6, 2011

I'm running BlogEngine.Net as a sub-application in my site (~/Blog/) and want to use the login control there for the main part of my site, so I can log in and update the content.

At the moment, my main site passes me to the sub- application login page, and when I log in, it returns me to my previous page as it should. The problem however is that my log in status is not persisting.

Do I have to alter anything with the cookies? Is this even possible?

Security :: How To Modify The Login Control

I'd like to record more information than the default control allows as well as perform actions with the input when the form is submitted but I'm having trouble figuring out how.

So firstly, if I want to record the middlename for example, how would I do that, and by default, where would it go if anywhere?

When the form is submitted, I'd like to take specific input, such as just the middlename for example, and write some linq to sql code to specify when and how it's stored. In what event would I put this code?
