AJAX :: HTMLEditor And Security Exception Error "System.Security.SecurityException: Request Failed"

Oct 21, 2010

I am trying to implement the Ajax HtmlEditor into my application. I currently am using a regular TextBox to load and save some data to some EMail template files and had to do some work-arounds to get it to accept the HTML Input. I am trying to upgrade it to use the Editor, but as soon as I insert the Editor and do a PostBack, I receive the Security Exception below. There is absolutely no change to the code-behind, so I don't understand the issue. There is so little on Google for the Version 3.5 Editor that I'm stumped. I have Debugging enabled, but it won't give me the Soruce Error either.

Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. "System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed."

When trying to access my simply aspx form on our local network. It works fine when debugging using Microsoft Visual studio 2008 however, when I deploy the aspx form on IIS 7.0 I get the error above. The form was working fine until I added a ajax calendar extender. I've also reviewed other posts relating to this one, such as changing<trust level="Full"> with no avail. I have listed a portion of my web.config file below.

I have an ASP.NET application that was working fine on my server up until last night when I installed a bunch of windows updates, now it's throwing this exception : System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is not allowed.Unfortunately there is some things that makes this hard to debug. I added the debug="true" attribute to the web.config file to get the line where the exception is lauched. The line identified in my code is an End If and the code just before seems benign :

Security :: "Request For The Permission Of Type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission" Error?

Feb 22, 2011

Here is my code

[Code]....

"fileUpload" is the FileUpload ASP.NET control. The SaveAs method writes the user uploaded file to a specified location on the server. IT WORKS. That tells me that the ASP.NET process has the proper write permission to write to the file. The next line uses an assembly called PdfSharp which you can use to open PDF files and manipulate them. In this case, the line simply opens up the user uploaded file. That is where the error occurs. WTH?

It works on my production machine. It does not work on my local machine. It USED TO. It was never a problem before. So why would it be fine to WRITE to the server, but trying to open a file give an error? Makes no sense. Googling yields a suggestion to put <trust level="Full" originUrl="" /> under <system.web> in web.config. It does not work.

Security :: How To Log In With Valid User Id And Password But Failed

Feb 22, 2010

I am a newbie and using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition developing a website with some SQL database and a membership folder.

The membership folder security was set via Website/ASP.NET Configuration and with Permission Deny for Anonymous users, and a user id and password was created.

However when running the website and login with the created userid and password, it failed to log in with error message "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again." I suspect that the system could not find the ASPNETDB.MDF even though it is in the App_Data folder.

I have separately developed another website with Membership and User Login by following the example in ASP.NET Walkthrough in Learn Web Devbelopment, and it works ok.

Security :: Failed To Decrypt Using Provider 'MyEncryptionProvider'

Mar 5, 2010

Ok this one might be a bit tough to figure out, but each day when users open their application the following error is generated and they can not enter the application: "Failed to decrypt using provider 'EncryptionProvider'. Error message from the provider: The RSA key container could not be opened." Guess what fixes it... I have to open the application 1 time and then all of the users can being to open the application. This is not an issue with the encryption/decryption of the .config never having worked; it works just fine - but not all of the time. It sounds like a permissions issue to me, like me opening the app grants access to the key file for a time period, and the next day the issue starts all over again. Here is what I have already done (actually when I set up encryption originally), as the many, many posts with this issue are resolved with, but none have worked:

- aspnet_regiis -pa "MyWebKeys" "NT AuthorityNETWORK SERVICE"
- aspnet_regiis -pa "MyWebKeys" "ASPNET"
- Gave ASPNET account read access to "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys" folder
- Gave NETWORK SERVICE account read access to "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys" folder

I did not do the following, since I am not using the deafult machinekeys, but rather the imported "MyWebKeys" container

- aspnet_regiis -pa "NetFrameworkConfigurationKey" "NT AuthorityNETWORK SERVICE"
- aspnet_regiis -pa "NetFrameworkConfigurationKey" "ASPNET"

Here is how the file is encrypted:

aspnet_regiis -pef "appSettings" "C:MyProject" -prov "MyEncryptionProvider"

"MyWebKeys" are an imported key container on the server, that upon importing reside in the default "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys" directory. So it appears I have covered everything, right? What am I missing? Do I have to add individual users or groups with the pa command that use my application to allow access to the container? Remember the encryption/decryption does work 95% of the time. It just seems that each day in the morning, I must open the app once prior to the users being able to open the application, which tells me it is a permissions issue because I am an Admin on the server and they are not, but I thought all of this runs under the NETWORK SERVICE account anyways?)
