Mar 21, 2010I've written a ASP.NET app that I hope to sell to businesses, I could host the trial but it's designed to connect to the customers data so customers will certainly want to install it to do a successful evaluation.
I've never produced anything commercial before so I'm looking for advice on how best to limit the trial, a 30 day trial seems most common, do you simply rely on the clock of the PC/Server they install it on? keep in mind this is ASP.NET app so will be installed on their web server.

Oct 2, 2010I have two websites (one asp classic and the other asp.net) which we would like to implement some kind of security based on the client's hardware. We want something other than a password which could be shared. The purpose is to be sure access to information on the websites is not shared.
We were contrmplating storing hardware info in our database and validating against that upun website entry.
I have been looking into ActiveX (it would be acceptable to limit our users to IE), although we do have users who would like to use I-Phones. I have done no ActiveX development myself but have found a few articles on the web about ActiveX but that whole approach looks complicated. And also there seems to be a 64bit issue making it even more difficult.
So, I wonder if anybody has any advice as to what the best options might be for securing the website access in a way that would prevent sharing?

There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

Create Postback Delay Client Side?
May 14, 2010I am developing a web page where a user will submit some "Comments" on a form. When they click the submit button, I fire off some javascript that captures their current GPS location, which I store in a visible Text Box (for testing purposes). If the user is updating from a device that doesn't support gps, I add text to my textbox that says "Device does not support GPS".
When I get to the server, using a device that doesn't support GPS, that text comes through just fine. When I use my iPhone, I see the GPS Coords in my textbox, but that textbox value doesn't make it to the server.I'm thinking that there is a 2-3 second delay from the time that the button is clicked to the time that the java finishes retrieving the GPS. So the textbox text isn't set fast enough.I'm wanting to prevent a postback for 3 seconds (for example) to give the javascript time to update the textbox.

Jan 3, 2011I'm trying to use the COM interop assembly to export some data to an Excel workbook for an ASP.NET web application. This works fine in development, since the server and the client are the same machine. However, when deployed, this is not the case. The deployed version does not throw an exception, but it also does not open Excel on the local machine (since ASP.NET is executed server-side, this is pretty obvious).
How do I go about creating an Excel application on the client's machine?

Aug 12, 2010I am not sure if I am asking this question correctly. Sometimes when you don't know enough, you may not know what to ask. I want to set up memberships with an ASP.NET website. The memberships will have a 14 day free trial period. After that, the user will need to pay a fee if they wish to continue to access the website. I am not sure how to accomplish this. After adding a membership database to the website, setting up roles ect., what do I do next? Do I need to make adjustments to the tables of the database, or write some code somewhere in the application? I have never done this exercise before, Logically, I know that I need to implement something that keeps track of expiration date. Also, how do I prevent a user from just making up new user names and credentialing?

And in the Log In time entered password will be hashed with a salt and this salted password only transmitted through network (javascript). This is for incresing security without using SSL connection.I am planning to use ASP.NET 3.5 login controls How can I use client side hashing (SHA256 salted hashing) along with ASP.NET Login Controls. And also each login attempt should be logged, in a separate database table with IP address, user agent and so on.

If the user successfully authenticates, it's storing the user data in session and navigating to other pages. How thinking of implementing Forms Authentication, but my concern is how to secure the authentication token in client browser for security reasons. If i Limit the number of data by using const string query = "select top 300 a.ID,a.Code,a.Description. The Service works fine. But if I remove the top 300 part I get an error. What is your advice if I want a service to allow our client applications to update their data by using WCF. (11000 records.) I am using visual Studio 2010. C# .Net 4.0
