Security :: Using ASP Tools For Login And Create User / Login Tool Is Going To Get Userid And Password Info?
May 25, 2010
I've created a page to add users, using the CreateUserWizard, I use the Login Control to login.
I have setup the config file to use my SQL server, not express
<remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxxx;Password=xxxxxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I go to the create user page, add a user.
I can SEE the user on the database using Server Management Studio...
I go to signon and get "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."
I have not customized the login control in any way. (OR the createuserwizard)
HOW can I tell where the Login tool is going to get userid and password info?
How can I tell if it is not finding the user or the password does not match?

I'm looking for a way to create a login control without the use of web admin tool
Here are my system requirements
Windows 7 Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition ESET Anti-virus but SQL and Studio files excluded from being scanned. I have got a database. I've created the front end of the user login control manually not using the toolbox. Basically what I need is that once a user has registered. He then logs in. when he enters his username and password how do I code it so the database realises it's him/her and takes them to their LOGGED IN user

I am using the Login control on my login.aspx page to login to my /Members/Default.aspx page to display their current weight and their goal weight using the DetailsGrid. I have everything setup and I can log in and verify the user login name, but it only give one weight regardless of who logs in. Below is the SQL for the SQL Source on the DetailsGrid. I am new with this, Comparing the UserNames on aspnet_Users.UserName and memInfo.UserName should be able to extract that data, correct? Obviously I'm missing something. :)
SELECT memInfo.curWeight, memInfo.goalWeight FROM aspnet_Membership INNER JOIN aspnet_Users ON aspnet_Membership.UserId = aspnet_Users.UserId INNER JOIN memInfo ON aspnet_Membership.UserId = memInfo.UserId AND aspnet_Users.UserName = memInfo.UserName

I have a test form that I've placed the login and loginname tools on. The login portion appears to work correctly in that if the user puts in the wrong info it alerts, if the info is correct all is well and the correct URL is accessed. The problem is that the username control that I placed on the page does not in fact show the username.

We have a system where an administrator can login and create other users. If the administrator creates another user, then logs out and immediately logs back in with the new user information the UserID Guid is not available. If you log out and login again with the new username it works, or if you simply refresh the page it works.
Why does it not work on the first run?

login control portion of Murach's web dev w/ c# book. According to the books instructions, you create a Login.aspx page, add the login control to the page, and create the users and roles for the directories within the asp.net web site configuration tool. I still do not get prompted for user name and passord to access the pages I want to be secured. Why is this? Isn't the asp.net configuration tool supposed to edit the web.config file? I'm trying to follow the book to the letter and ensure that I am following correctly before posting for answers online. According to the book you do not have to edit anything or write code withing login.aspx page.

After reading a book I brought on ASP.net I fould the login controls to be very nice.I have set it up in my application so that customers can login using the standaard login controls and things were going smooth.But in my schema for my application I also have a table for customers (firstName, LastName, DOB, etc).And of course the customersID is used as a foreign key to tables such as Orders, Addresses (Home, Work, Postal).
The thing is how to i associate an asp.net login to a customer name in my table so that the CustomerID can be used through the application by knowing who is logged in.

I am having a big problem trying to set the password for a login (MS SQL Server Management Studio).
I can create a new login and specify a password. Hitting "OK" reports no errors. Opening the newly created login shows that windows has automatically changed the original password to something else (I can tell because of the password length).
I have no idea why this is happening and have even tried reinstalling SQL.

I want to force users to provide a username, but not a password. I want to use many features of the membership class, but in an environment where passwords are not required.I could set up a "UserName" textbox, and give all my users the same, hard-coded password, but I was hoping to find a more simple solution.[I know, this should NOT have been posted in a forum entitled "Security". "Insecurity" or "Vulnerability" would be more fitting, but...]

I have a problem when user changes the password using the Account Membership implementation from ASP.NET MVC.
I'm creating users from ASP.NET Configuration tool at Visual Studio. Thats works fine. But when my users changes password using the published site, the login process fail, when try to authenticate using new or old password, either.
Have any workaround that I'm forgot to implemento to avoid this?

My customer is asking me to build the login mechanism as following:
There is a login square,it has a "fogot password" link,when this link is being pressed,login square disappears and "forgot password" square appears on his place.
I use build in login and password recovery controls of MS2008.
How can I implement such an issue?
I've tried to do it with multiview control,but when I converted login control to template,"forgot password" link appears as a hyperlink,wich doesn't have a click event.
Besides,multiview is a server side control and there is a litle bit hard to change its ActiveIndex on Client side.
