Setting Visibility Of Button Control In GridView Header?

I have a gridview that displays entries from a data table. I am giving users the ability to select a subset of the data in the table by having a textbox and search button in the grid view header. The search button fires the gridview row command, and changes the underlying sqlDataSource's select command, and adds the text value from the text box as a parameter.
Also, I have a "Show All" button in the header, that clears out the select parameters, so all entries in the table are shown. Again, this works perfectly.
What is NOT working is controlling the visibility of the "Show All" button control. Below is the html markup for the data grid header template:

In the Row Command event handler, here is how I am setting the visibility of the button:

The trace statement is showing the correct visible status - if the "show all" button is clicked, I do a SelectParameters.Clear() on the sqlAttorneys sqlDataSource.
Is my problem due to a misunderstanding of how the "FindControl" method works - I had assumed my new btnShowAll that I define is actually a reference to the "physical" control on the aspx page, so any changes I make to my local object is reflected in the control on the page.
If this is not the case, what is the best way to get a reference to the button control in the header row of the grid view?

I have a page with 2 update panels
UpdatePanel1 contains a gridview1 and a standard panel, pnlForms. gridview1 has a linkbutton which is processed in the gridview1_rowcommand
UpdatePanel2 has gridview2.
There is also a Submit button that isn't in either UpdatePanel but may be a candidate to go into its own UpdatePanel. The Submit button is a trigger for both update panels
The behavior I would like is:
1-Initially, all visible except pnlForms and Submit button 2- When linkbutton in UpdatePanel1 gridview1 is clicked, pnlForms and Submit button become visible. 3. When Submit button is clicked, both gridviews should be refreshed, and PnlForms and the Submit button should both become not visible. I believe I may have to put the Submit button in its own UpdatePanel3 but am not sure how to proceed.
In my present code, everything works as desired except Submit button (not presently in any Update panel) is always visible. Assuming Submit button is initialized to not visible, how do I get it to appear when I click the link button in gridview1 and to disappear when it is clicked?

I have this itemtemplate for a gridview column that is pulling data from a SQL database. My Question is how would I perform a check to see if my field ActivityFile has a value (which means a file is in the db) and then display the LinkButton at which point I generate code to download the file (already done and works).

i am working in asp.net and c# i have a grid view. i have 10 columns in that grid view. I have some problems with grid view header text color.some of the columns header have link (for sorting). the color of such header text is a light blue.after clicking the blue color change to another color.
some of columns header does not have link. the color of such header text is gray. i want to make the color of entire header text to single color like gray. after clicking the link it must be in same color.

what I am trying to do is add a method to my gridview's sorting event to add a class to the column being sorted so the user can know if the data is being sorted ascending or descending and on what column. I am currently trying to do it through a switch statement on the sort expression to determine what column it's coming from but I am unaware of how to set the css class.

i am setting the gridview headers backcolor dynamically

however everytime i reload the page,backcolor disappears.If i move it out from IsPostBack block ,it works fine but i want to load grid only when the page loads for first time(inside !Page.IsPostBack).

Scenario:
I have a Gridview where I want to handle the Sorting in a custom control that I've added to the header.
I've added this control to my GridView's Header via OnRowCreate event handling. I want the Sort Expressions to persist session to session (via Webparts Personalization)
Here is what I have for adding the custom header control to the GridView Header

This works out well for adding the control, but I can't get anything to persist because these controls are creating initially via postback (per the event) and re-created on all subsequent postbacks. I can't add an If(!IsPostback) because the controls are initially created on the gridview's postback (well at least thats how it's acting when I put it in there) If I were to add this control via the ASP page, not via the Codebehind, I would be able to persist the control. If I try to treat it as though everything is setup correctly, and assign my custom control's controls to [Personalizable], I get a runtime error telling me that I can only have webpartzones in or before Page_init (I'm guessing this is due to when/where the
gridview hits the OnRowCreate event). If there is some fundimental logic I'm missing, or best practices that I'm moving away from,

I can control the visibility of these columns at the server side by using this -
grdTest.Columns[n].Visible = false;
But, I have to control the visibility from the client side using javascript. I tried a lot but I was only able to access either the row object or any particular cell of the gridview.

Is there a way to access the column object of the gridview and control its visibility using javascript?

I have a GridView (inside an update panel) that has header text that changes based on some user profile information. I set the header text in the Page_Load function of the page - that works fine. The problem is that when I change to the page number of the GridView, the header text is not redrawn. I am handling the OnPageChanging event to try to update the header text but nothing is happening. I have a GridView with a load of data in, there is an ID associated to the data that I would not like to be visible to the users. All worked fine when all the cells were visible, but as soon as I change the ID DataBound column to false, when I try to access the item in code I get "" instead of it's actual value (that worked perfectly when it was visible).

i have a grid view with all columns as TemplateFields( No BoundField). Based on certain condition i have to set Visibility of few columns false. Suppose when there is no column 'CaseList2' in the DataTable, then the second column of the grid (whose column index is 1 )should be invisible. But when the Gridview binds it gives error DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'CaseList2'
i googled it and found that
GridView1.Columns[1].Visible = false;
should work. But its not working actualy.

I have a validator that check an input.
i what that the validator displayed "valid" if the value is valid, and "invalid" if the value is hasnt passed the validation.
can manage without adding an additional label for the valid state(by setting the visibility: true/false)?
does the validator control has am alternative value, or i have to override it?

I have a delete button in each row of GridView (component ASP.NET). I want some of the delete buttons to be invisible. The visibility of the delete button should depend on the data that are back the row.
GridView is backed by EntityDataSource. GridView displays entities called Category, one instance in each row. Entity Category has (besides others) also a field of type EntityCollection. Name of that field is Items. Basically I want to allow user to delete a row only if the Items field of backing Category entity is an empty collection.
This is how the button looks right now:

I don't know what should replace ???. The button schold be visible only when this expression evaluates to true:

I have a panel control in gridview's template. I need to hide/unhide panel in javascript function, for that i need to pass panel's id to the javascript. The problem is that all panels have the same id in gridview, so I need to set unique id to each panel.
I tried to do:
<asp:Panel id= "Panel_<%# Eval("ID")%>" and some other variations but always get an error.
The panel contains some other controls, I need it to be server side because I need to set at code-behind (after checking if user is authenticated) What can I do? p.s. It doesn't have to be Panel, any other control that I can find with Findcontrol and can hold other controls.

I know how to Add a Row just under the header, but then other controls start to fail.
