Stream Live Audio Without Using A Streaming Media Server?
Mar 8, 2011
Is there a way, without using a streaming media server, to stream semi-live audio from an asp.net web app? We want to have a microphone located at a remote site, and stream the data to the client machine for listning. Maybe somehow dynamically build the wav data, or somehow implement this using playlists?

We have a need to stream live audio from remote devices and be able to listen to it in a web page. I can stream stored audio files, but the live stream has me a bit confused, since we will be adding the data at runtime. Can someone point me in the right direction to show me how to do this?

My project is to create a website that facilitates giving live lectures on intranet. Hence, the bandwidth is not an issue here.
Also, I have implemented some basic code of live streaming using windows media encoder SDK in a C# console application. I was able to view the streaming on another LAN PC in VLC player.
Now, how do I implement my code in the asp.net website? What I want is that in order to start the streaming (i.e., start the live lecture), the facutly just clicks on a button in a webpage. This will stream his movements to the students (via a server). Also, this will enable the facutly to view himself on the webpage.
Is this even possible? I mean it would be like : both the student and the faculty will access the same website. The interface to both of them will be different - one will start the stream and the other (student) will receive the stream.
Or will I have to create a different application to start the streaming? So it would be like the facutly will start that applicaiton to start the streaming and the students will access the stream throught the player embedded in the website.
Another question is : what player should I use to receive the stream (on the student side)? Windows Media Player (I heard that it has problems with firefox)? Or the ubiqutous flash plugin will succeed in capturing the media encoder stream?

I need the ability to stream live audio/video on my churches website. I have checked many sources online and cannot find anything that mathches my needs just right. I do not want a 3rd party software. I do not want to use the new silverlight 4 as i need to be able to deploy this now. I am on a shared hosting account so I do not have full access to the server. I know this limits the options greatly but I know there also has to be a way to do it.
Also the main need is to stream a single audio/video source but it would also be beneficial to have this a 2 way system for youth groups discussions. So the ability for the church to stream one video and the youth that are signed on can also stream there audio/video back so possibly a webcam chat type setup would be best.

Trying to find code to basically stream audio and visual streams over a network can't find proper examples to firmly get a good understanding of how best to approach the development. I've looked at direct sound and Direct X examples but nothing has been concrete enough. Trying to basically create a web page in C# that will be able to stream audio and visual to users.

I would like to get some good ideas of how to stream a broadcast over my website. I have been researching my options for several days and have experimented with Silverlight. I don't think it will do what I am looking for though. I am developing a club website that runs off a spare desktop using IIS7 and Media Services. I could use expression encoder just fine and stream a live broadcast from my location. The problem is, I want a user on a different machine to be able to login from home and based on his provided role assignments click a button to begin a live stream and then click to end the stream. All the while, anonymous user are able to click on a seperate portion of the site to hear the "live" stream.
I consider myself to have intermediate skills using ASP.NET. The media piece has me lost though.

I'm using flow player for streaming videos to my browser. The videos are uploaded by the users and they may upload different formats. What will be solution to stream the videos as mp4 , what ever be the format they upload. I'm currently using ffmpeg commands.
The problem is after encoding the video is getting down scaled. Also if the user upload large video file the encoding itself takes more time.
I need to stream the videos as soon as its uploaded to the server, what ever may be the format(like in youtube).

I am working on an ASP.NET Web application and I want it to have audio playback functionality. I can do is using directories. For example, using the ASP.NET Audio control like :- , is pretty easy and straight-forward and works accordingly. But, the trouble comes when I'm using a database and the control. I am totally new to data binding in ASP.NET. I don't like using JavaScript, but i am comfortable using it, but I would prefer C# solution (I know beggars can't be choosers).
I have a database containing only one table called tblAudio. This table has two fields only for the title of the audio file (type NVARCHAR(MAX)) and the field for the actual audio (type VAR BINARY(MAX)). I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Professional with SQL Server Express Edition. The table has a single record with the relevant data in their fields.

Ive downloaded the asp.net framework from the "getting started" section twice today. Once on my PC which has windows 7 and once on my laptop which has vista. Both ended up with the same problem.
Once it is all downloaded I go to the "sql server installation centre" in my programs list and then select the "new installation" link at the top, I am asked to "Browse for SQL server installation media." I have tried to browse for this but cannot find it anywhere. its an error with windows 7 and to try and download visual studio which has all the componants needed for SQL Server to run. I tried this and hit the same wall. I have spent all day tring to find a solution for this but to no avail. I find it very confusing when reading up on exactly what I need to download. I am a PHP developer and have never done anything with ASP before. I just want a quick and simple solution to be able to get my website & database up and running. I have a .bak file that I need to import into the database which I would have thought would be very straight forward?!?

We are storing the WAV file into a database table as VARBINARY(MAX). We want to play the WAV file directly in a web page. We want to use PLAY, PAUSE and STOP for these WAV files.
We want the user to have a Control on the page to play the WAV file.
Here we DO NOT want to store the FILE in the Web Server's file structure. It is againt the SECURITY policy.
We tried different ways. Nothing is working. We used SoundPlayer class. Using this, we can only PLAY and STOP but can not PAUSE the WAV file.

The more I think about it, the more confused I get. Is this even an ASP.NET question? Maybe it's a Silverlight question, or maybe it's an IIS question. Maybe it's a C/C++ question?!
I rent a server from a server farm. I also subscribe to a security service that streams, over the Internet, once every three seconds, via https, a series of JPG photos from four outdoor security cameras at a certain location.
I want to collect these photos on my rented server (server side). Keep in mind these are photos, not video, though after two weeks of streaming you can get around 50 GB of photos I am told, so I'll have to track storage consumed and delete the old ones, but that's a minor issue.
I researched how to capture streaming photos in ASP.NET and found nothing. I researched it in Silverlight and found a number of links for client side video chatting (a new feature supported by Silverlight 4) both multi-user and single-user, assuming they have web-cams attached to their client side PC. Not quite the same problem as what I have, since I don't care to attach any process to the four security cameras (the security company already wrote the software to do that, and is streaming it live). I just want to know how I can capture and store the streamed photos on my server.

I have an ASP .NET 2.0 (4.0 is an option) page that I've embedded the Windows Media Player to using OBJECT tags.
The player is connecting to a Windows Media Services publishing point on the Web server. This is on a 2008 server.
Everything works great, see it here: [URL]
If I understand correctly, the information the player is showing in its status bar comes from the ID3 tags of the current track. Continuing on this line of thought, the ID3 information must be coming to the player from the media server. Correct?
What I want to do is collect and use the information about the track that's current being played. I'd like to be able to create a custom display for the current track information. I'd also like to put a custom value in the track information to look up additional information about the artist/track from a database.
