I have to open pdf documents from my website. I was thinking of just doing a simple <a href...> to the pdf document. I noticed that in other places on our websites the programmers always do it in the code-behind using the following code : With Response

I tried simple code like this using href element. But it tries to open the sheet.xls in the browser window and says it can't find the file. I want the excel file to be opened in excel (not browser).

when I click on gif and txt file links I can see Image and content of txt file in page and their address in address bar but by clicking on swf and png files link download dialog box appear? I need to remove this type of files from htaccess and I searched and found the Equivalent of htaccess is authorization section of web.config but I don't know..I need when click link I can see file and it's address in address bar.

View 1 RepliesI have 2 xml documents that I need to find the difference and then save it back to an xml file. I already have the code to get the difference, I am just lost on how to save the IEnumerable back to xml. I tried to stuff it into an XDocument, but got a conversion error.

View 1 RepliesI have an ASP web Applicaton using C# that runs great on my local host where I can access the documents via Fully qualified path (e.g., C://MyProjects/MyProject/File.xls).However once I publish this to a server (and it is a virtual server) I can no longer provide a fully qualified path name I can only give something like (//server/project/File.xls - which is the path I publish to) and it doesn't like this at all. First it doesn't publish the documents to the server even though I added them to my project. So I put them on the server manually and even tried adding the documents as embedded resources but that doesn't allow me to edit and open them as needed. This is really a pain. Why can I not just put them in the file path and access them using "File.xls" like I used to in the old days? I don't like this change at all. It should not take me a day to figure out how to access a document on a server.

I need to integrate a solution to keep track on number of clicks an advertisement receives from site. I am using ASP.NET mvc model with VB.NET.

My question is, when this opens up in the browser, it takes over the whole page. Is there a way to limit the height? The reason I'm asking is, I have three menu items above the page to open up a specific pdf. So if I click on one of the links to view that pdf, the pdf show up, but the links disappear because of the PDF.
I also don't want to use iframe to populate the PDF.

I do save the data in ViewState and encrypt the viewstate; however, I don't know how to access that information on client side.
I can access the viewstate data fine on Server Side but I need to open the new browser window on server side in order to access the ViewState. I may be wrong. Is there a trick to this?
