VS 2010 - 401 Unauthorized / Access Is Denied Due To Invalid Credentials
Nov 3, 2011
I'm setting up a new site on a new server. I created the site in the IIS manager and pointed it to my site directory. But, I now receive this error each time I try to navigate to the site.
I didn't receive this error on the other server, so I'm a little confused. I looked this up, but most of the information I've found is about configuring the users that people have setup. But, this site won't be secured like that. No one will need to log in.

I'm working on an ASP.NET project for the first time in about three years; in the meantime I've been working with Python/Django, PHP and Obj-C. Anyways, picked it right back up... except something that is totally killing me right now, and I have a feeling it must be staring me in the face:
I'm trying to bind to an LDAP server, for the purpose of authenticating users. The way it works here is, you bind on your own credentials, use that to find the Distinguished Name of the user you're authenticating, then you bind again on their DN and their password. If the bind is successful, the password was correct and the user can be authenticated.
Here's the problem - the first bind (on the fixed credentials, the ones with the ability to search for users and their subtrees) works fine. The search works fine. The second bind fails, no matter what, with the LDAP error INVALID_CREDENTIALS. This happens even when completely valid credentials are supplied.
Here's the code, with the usernames and passwords redacted, of course...

So, i am running SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and VWD 2010 Express on Windows 7. I am logged in as admin on my machine. I have created a new web app project (VB Linq to SQL) and I have attempted to add an existing .mdf to my project's App_Data folder. I right-click, choose "add existing...", navigate to the .mdf file in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLDATA folder, and then i get an "Access is denied" error box with no further details.

My code can be found here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3604864/c-asp-net-ftp-error I am trying to download a file from an FTP server when I try to download it it says I do not have access I have been googling this all morning and have not had any luck. I went to the designated folder and added Everyone with full permissions hoping I was missing a user and that did not work. I tried giving full permissions to myself, Anonymous user, network service, and a few other users that I have found. I have tried using
<identity impersonate="true" /> and
<identity impersonate="true" userName="myfullusername" password="mypassword"/>
I am still not having any luck the full error I get is:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:UsersmynameDocuments' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath)

I am working with Staff Images and Staff Dependants Images (photos) and I have to deal with such images among Adobe LiveCycle Forms, File System JPEG Format, Storing them in SQL Server, and finally, displaying them in regual web forms (ASPX).
In order to have the most reasonable and flexible desing, I did the following to:
1. Load the image from predefined location defined in web.config.
2. Convert the images to Memory Stream,
3. Convert the images to Base64 format,
4. Convert the image to XML Node.
In web.config, I defined the following:
[Code]....
I load the Staff Photo into Memory Stream as follows:
[Code]....
And I create the Base64 XML Node as follows:
[Code]....
As a matter of fact, all above is working 100% correctly while dealing with Adobe LiveCycle Form, for Loading and Saving Imgaes from/to PDF.
The above method will allow me to finally save images to SQL Server field type varbinary(max) and also into File System as regular image files. Also, I have full security and control over the images, becuase the above method will allow me to have full control for who is authorized to get/view the images. The end-user does not have direct access to where the images are stored.
How to use the above method to display the image on a regular ASPX Web Page using Image Server Control ? I do not want to use the src='path to image file', I want to be able to push the image content/binary to the IE without providing a link to the image file, how I can do this ?
My objective is to prevent the user from having direct access to the image files from the Browser.

I have been struggling with an issue that sounds like it should be quite common but I can't seem to get the thing working no matter how much I research it!
I am using an AJAX file uploader to upload files (up to 100MB) to the webserver and when the user clicks a button to complete navigate to the next page, I then attempt to move the files off the webserver onto a file server on Page_Load. Both servers are WinServer 2003. There just isn't enough space on the webserver to hold all the uploads once we go live with this solution so I have to get the files off the webserver.
Uploading the file and creating a new subdirectory on the webserver (to hold the file) works no problem at all. When I do the file copy to our file server locally on VS2008, again, no problem. However, when I delopy to the live server and try the same thing, the upload happens ok, but the file copy does not. I get an UnauthorizedAccessException. I don't have access to the webserver myself (but can request it if absolutely necessary) and our file server sits within the same domain (Active Directory).
I do not want to use Impersonation at a high level (web.config), so I tried it programmatically for the purposes of the copy file but it did not work. I used one of our general clerical accounts to pass in the credentials and gave full permission to this account on the file server to create/modify files.
Stack Trace:
[code]...
And the Copy code is:
[Code]....

This is really a couple of questions about preventing unauthorized attempts to access a specific file type. Here go the questions:How do I prevent users from directly requesting a type of file? Do I write an HTTP handler?After preventing a direct download, can my app still explicitly serve that file type? How?

I would like to create a site that allows people to log in. I would like to have the ability, in my codebehind, to say things like
Code:
if(userIsLoggedIn){ //then whatever }
and to be able to get the id of the currently logged in user to use in other SQL commands.
I picture the user accounts table as having id, username, password, date_created, date_lastlogin etc columns...

I run a Exchange 2010 server and created an account for one of my websites to send e-mails.
The webserver's IP is even listed on the [Organization Configuration] -> [Hub Transport] -> [Global Settings] -> [Transport Settings] -> [Message Delivery] list.
The code sets a set of Network Credentials, but setting incorrect or correct settings, it doesn't matter; if I list external e-mail addresses, I get a "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for <address>" message, 'local' addresses that are cc-ed, do get delivered...
When checking with telnet, I noticed that the only AUTH option was AUTH NTLM, but when checking the NetworkCredentails, it stated that NTLM should would.

I have a site where users can register an account. To do this they have to enter various details about themselves (Name, DOB, Email Address, Password, Username etc..).
However, I would like them to just have to enter their Facebook username/password, and have all this information pulled from their Facebook user account.
How is this possible using ASP.NET 2.0?

My CMS writes a sitemap xml file, for google analytics, to the server whenever I create or update a page. The error is:
error Code:
Access to the path 'D:homeensamplemrweinerschnitzelandpie.comsitemap.xml' is denied.
I imagine that happens because IUSR_machineName doesn't have proper permissions. I have no issues on my development server (which is pretty much default) but to avoid this in the future, instead of having a method that writes an XML file can I just output an XML filestream? I can barely remember the reasons I used the file writing at all (caching and file dependencies maybe) and that's all been replaced.
Am I on the right path by thinking filestream is the answer or can I just write an aspx page that outputs the sitemap.xml file? Am I wrong in imagining there is a difference between the two?

After doing a google search on a problem I couldn't find the solution so I'm asking I'm runnnig an ASP.NET Website locally to upload a picture file. It takes the filename and from there it takes the date (year and month) and then when it gets uploaded, the web site creates a corresponding folder to store the picture like serverPath/pictures/2010/12 where 2010 is the year and 12 is the month, it all works greate locally but when I upload it to my hosting machine (GoDaddy, IIS 7.0) is keeps giving me this error message:"Access to the path X is denied"And it's not automatically creating the folders.This is the code that I'm using to create the folder:
if (!Directory.Exists(nombrePath))
{
Directory.CreateDirectory(nombrePath);
return true;
}
I'm sure that the path is correct, I've verified the path string and also it works locally

I've been researching and I've spent pratically all day on this. Here's my issue. The website uses forms authentication that we authenticate against active directory. I've been attempting to access files we have on a network share and push them down to the user (when they request them) in an http response. I keep getting "Access to the path <unc path> is denied".
Here's the code:
[Code]....
Things I've tried:1) When I add the "Computer" to the permissions of the folder it works and I dont even need to emulate a user (essentially just commenting out this code), but I'm not sure we want to explicitly give the computer access to some of our network shares 2) I've verified it's the correct username and password for the active directory account and that they have permissions on these network shares 3) I've fooled around with the WebProxy class with no luck (as I'm not entirely familiar with it) 4) I've tried impersonating the user by creating a windows token and passing the token as credentials (i've done this with similar websites) with no luck, plus this seemed a bit complicated for something I figured would be relatively easy.Its almost as if, the WebClient class isn't even using the credentials i've passed it.We've got it working now, but only by giving the "Computer" specific permissions on the network shares, which we'd like to avoid.

I have the following web.config file in my MemberPages directory:
<configuration>
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow roles="member" />
<deny users="*" />
</authorization>
</system.web>
</configuration>
If the User is a "member", he/she is allowed access to web pages in the MemberPages directory. Otherwise, he/she is denied access. The mechanism works. However, when the User is denied access, the following very unfriendly message appears:
Server Error in '/MyWebSite' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies)could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /MyWebSite/MemberPages/member_page.aspx
How can I redirect the User to a more friendly page if he/she is denied access?
<configuration>

I am new to IIS and have some questions.
I've put my application on IIS with a App Pool I newly created. The App pool setting is integrated and networkservice.
My application reads a local file from a local machine. When it tries to do that, I receive an exception saying that "Access to the path c:..xxx is denied". Isn't the app using the credentials logged into the local machine?!
doesn't "integrated and networkservices" mean.. use the credentials logged in to windows?
