adding a scrolling news section to a web site? I'm thinking about allowing a user to enter news into a database and use Javascript to make the news scroll once its displayed on the page. Is this how it is typically done?

I want the nonmember pages to have access to all the member pages but just not certain features like saving to the database. Is there a way to have the same page for both members and non members but have certain controls like buttons and other things that are only usable to the member that is logged in?
View 5 Replies how page update methods are normally done in a web page with multiple sections? I have a few web pages containing several sections. Each section contains different controls/values and can be saved/updated at any point. Can this be done without creating multiple save functions for each "save" button click in each section? Can this be done with one save class that accepts any number of different values?
Also, i have some page values that should insert if it does not exist and update if the value already exist. Currently, i have to check the database to see if the value exist before inserting and updating. Is there a better way of doing this in VS 2010?

I want my codebehind to dump a very large set of JS into the ASPX page. This is required, as I can't use external JS code for this component, and the code is also unique to each customer. Is it possible to do this from codebehind? I know how to set the value of text boxes etc. (.Text/.Value = xxx) but I can't see how I can just 'dump' code straight onto the page.

I have a gridview within a panel. As I am using ASP Content, and the width of the grid view will auto extend to the left, and beyond the default IE width, and I got to scroll to left using the horizontal scroll bar.
Now, I wanted to fixed the length of the Panel to maybe 800px or 900px. With this I wanted to add a section to the Panel, and put the grid view within the section, and I wanted this section to have the ability to scroll horizontally.
In short, I do not want the Ie's scroll bar, instead, I want a scroll section within a Panel.

I have this error: The configuration section 'connectionStrings' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration on my site when loading this page [URL]. The rest of the site works [URL] Setup:The server is a hosting company - Mocha Hosting. [URL] contains a phpbb forum. This has been installed via the hosting company's web tool (Plesk). There is a root web.config, but there isn't in the /forum/ folder. The forum folder has been set by the phpbb installation wizard to be a virtual directory and application - and it appears to not have asp.net configured on it. The forum worked BEFORE uploading the root web.config file, and again if i temporarily remove the root web.config.
View 5 RepliesI have never used Visual Studio 2010, ASP.NET, or ASP.NET AJAX but I'm doing my best to learn. To that avail, I'm usingProgramming ASP.NET 3.5, a book that Jesse Liberty co-authored. This book was written with Visual Studio 2008 as the programming tool of choice. I'm using VS2010.
As I follow this book line by line and do the given exercises, we have an existing web form project active and he asks for the reader to right-click on the application root in Solution Explorer, click on Add New Item, and then Select AJAX Web Form from the list of templates. The problem is that in my VS 2010 (with the AJAX Control Toolkit installed) there is no option in the list of templates for an AJAX Web Form. There is an option for an AJAX-enabled WCF Service, but no AJAX Web Form.
As I explained, I'm brand new to this and only on page 95 of this book. what I need to do or to add to an ASP.NET web form to make it an AJAX Web Form? And as a follow-up, will I need to add a reference for jQUery along with the AJAX reference?
One final question, I tried to create a blank AJAX Web Site (project) in VS 2010 by clicking on File->New->Web Site-> but there was no AJAX Web Site template for the next selection. I can create an ASP.NET Web Form. So my last question is how does one create a new AJAX Web Form web site in VS 2010.
i have a Dynamic Questionnaire that is created using dynamic data from the Database. My data in the Database contains the fields like
QuestionID - Primary key
Question - The Question Text
Answer - The Answer
Required - This is a Validation , i used this to enable the Required validator in asp.net
DataType - This is the Datatype, it can be a Heading also.
ReadOnly - This check if that Question is a Read-only , This happens most of the time , when it is a Calculated Field, meaning its values depends on other fields values.
Order - This is the order the Questions will appear
Section - This is the section, So the Questions are Grouped. Normally in Page1 you will have Questions for Section 1.......
Deleted- This is a bit Field , its either 1 or 0 , 1 is active, so this will be to Filter only active Questions
QuestionType- This is the Type of Control the Data should be Presented with, It can be a Dropdown ,checkbox or textbox..
QT_ID - There can be many Templates of the Question , this makes sure we use the Correct Template for the Questionnaire
So with this kind of Data , i want to use know , what asp.net Control can i use to achieve this.

My research tells me to use powershell but I can't seem to find the namespace to reference and would like some sample code. I found some code on the web but I don't know what the namespace is for PowerShell. I think it might be System.Management.Automation but when I try to reference the namespace it does not exist in the list of dotnet. All I have is System.Management and System.Management.Instrumentation.
