View 2 RepliesWhen I open up a web application project, VS attemps to configure IIS to open the project. This is fine, but typically there is already an application in that place. For example, we have apps that run at the root, and various feature branches would map to the same virtual application. Even though VS can *create* the application, it won't modify an existing one.
For example, lets say IIS has:
/MyApp
During my day I mightwant to work on MyApp from:
c:ranchesfeature1MyApp
c:ranchesfeature2MyApp
c:archive
elease102MyApp
c:production
elease204MyApp
If I delete /MyApp, then VS will create it when I open any of these projects, but it will never modify /MyApp to point to my current project. So first thing is: Is there any way to change this behavior?
Second question is, is there no way to open a web application project w/o having a properly backed IIS application setup? I know you can have the projects run off the casini webserver, but all of our applications target IIS and rely on inherited web.config settings. /MyApp is expecting to find config values that exist at /Web.Config and a login page for the entire system at /Login.aspx. Trying to run /MyApp in casini fails immediately because of these dependencies.
But what if I am just doing a code review. I don't care to browse the site, I just want to open the project. Is there no way to tell VS to just open the project and ignore the fact that IIS isn't setup right?
In the Setup Project I have 2 web.config files: web.config - used during the development and web_dist.config - the one that should be included into Setup Project. I must be sure the the Setup project will NOT include the web.config and will always include web_dist.config.
In the File System -> Web Application Folder I have added the Content Files from the project.
Also included the web_dist.config and mapped it to the web.config.
But this gives the warning:
WARNING: Two or more objects have the same target location ('[targetdir]web.config') And the actual config file included is web.config and not web_dist.config. What would be the best option to include the web_dist.config (and named as web.config in the setup)?
I am using VS2010. When I am building a release for a WinForms Applicaiton, I can see some .xml files relevant to project in the bin elease folder. The .dll (third party component) has been referenced in the References folder of the project for eg. Rebex.Net.Ftp and in the properties window the Source Path is
C:Program FilesRebexFile Transfer Pack for .NET 4.0FTP SSL for .NET 4.0inRebex.Net.Ftp.dll In the above mentioned source path directory there is an Rebex.Net.Ftp.xml which gets pulled across to the release folder as well. I couldn't really get my head around where this can be referenced so that it puts this .xml file in the release folder of the project when I do a build?
My main problem is, when I created a setup project for this application, I can't get this file included in the installation pack (after installing the .msi file). I get the Rebex.Net.Ftp.dll but not Rebex.Net.Ftp.xml file. I tried all the options in the Project Output except including the "Source files" which I dont want to. how to include the .xml files in the setup installation pack, ie., if there are properties I am forgetting to set or something like that?
It is possible to create a Visual Studio Web Setup Project that deploy my files outside wwwroot folder and set IIS virtual directory to this folder?
View 1 RepliesWhen debug a project, then error message show:

I am having a simple web site created using VS.NET 2003 using .NET Framework 1.1 The web site project builds properply. When I hit F5 (to debug) it displays "Error while trying to run project" message. I am able to debug console and windows service applications. Recently I installed VS.NET 2010 (.NET Framework 4.0). I think prior to this it was working fin. ENV: Windows XP and IIS 5.1
View 4 RepliesI'm creating a website in Visual Studio 2010. I would like to use Visual Studio for C# debugging, but it also uses Visual Studio as JavaScript debugger. Is there a way to disable script debugging for Asp.Net website projects? I run my projects by hitting F5 in my Visual Studio. (I've noticed that when I attach the debugger manually, I can specify the type of stuff I would like to debug.) Note: I would like to debug, but not with Visual Studio. The developer toolbar is enough.
View 3 RepliesDebug-Start Debugging/Debug-StartWithoutDebugging OR Project ASP.Net Configuration launches Dreamweaver. It started lastnight, I had both Deamweaver and VWD 2008 express open at the same time - (I was looking at JQuery in the Microsoft and Dreamweaver enviroments simultaniously). After the first tie this happened, I closed down Dreamweaver (CS3) and it opened when I tried to run my VWD project. I reinstalled VWD 2008 express, IIS and disabled Dreamweaver (renamed the exe). Dreamweaver still came up.
View 4 RepliesI get this error when I hit F5 in VS 2008. I have checked that Windows authentication is enabled on the site and it is. I can mannully attach the debugger to the IIS process and it works. What could be wrong? I have tried alot of things without success.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to debug my web application on my localhost machine in Visual Studio 2010 and I keep getting this error: "unable to start debugging on web server. The Microsoft Visual Studio remote debugging monitor(MSVSMON.exe) does not appear to be running on the remote computer."
Is there a way I can turn this off as I'm not trying to make any attempts debugging remotely.
I run the start debugging option...it runs successfully. but still is shows start debugging option is shown in the Visual studio 2005 IDE. And one more problem is ::I applied break points in one page and run the application. but those break points are not detected....

i have a very annoying iis problem
iis server stops working until app pool is recycled
i am hoping that new visual studio (net framework 4.0) may solve this very annoying unsolveable problem
I have upgraded a Visual Studio 2005 Web Site in a 32 bit server to Visual Studio 2008 maintaining the same 2.0 framework in a 64 bit server with Windows 2008 R2 Server. The Web Site has several class libraries.
After porting to Visual Studio 2008 2.0 Framework using the Upgrade Wizard, I found that I was unable to hit a break point in the Project code behind files while I was able to in the class libraries. The bin folder has the dlls and the corresponding pdb files for the class libraries. I did start the Web site as an Administrator and made sure whole bunch of IIS7 properties are properly set.
I tried to rebuild the solution as a Web Application in Visual Studio 2008 and gave up that approach as I faced hundreds of error messages pointing to missing references and namespaces inspite of adding whole lot of references and namespaces to the Web.
Anyone know if I can maintain a VS 2008 (.net 3.5) project by using the VS 2010 IDE ?

View 9 Repliesis there an easy way to debug an application in vs 2008 without actually logging onto my machine as different users? its a winforms app in 3.5 on xp...i know how to do the whole "run-as" option when the program is done and built, but for testing its getting really annoying! maybe something like impersonate that web apps have...anything like that for winforms?
View 2 Repliesi put a break point at ADD button, when ever i click on the button the it is not entering into that?
what might be the problem?
previously it has worked but its not working.
I have a site that I am developing with VS 2008. I have a breakpoint set in my code behind file. This file is vast as some of it was created with Iron Speed 7.0. What I'd like to do is limit the debugger to the one file. That is, no matter where the code goes it skips over code in other files, and automatially breaks when execution returns to the file I put the break point in. The code is too vast to step a bit at time and choose to step into or out of bit of code. I want it to just debug the current file.

View 3 RepliesI have a problem with Visual Studio 2010. When I start debugging it works slowly.
Internet Explorer opens, but the website loads extremely slowly.
My workmate and me work on the same project and he doesn't have any problem like that.
My hardware is 4G memory + Intel Core i5 CPU 3.20 GHz.
I stopped my anti-virus program but it couldn't be resolved.
