Jan 20, 2011I'm having an irritating issue with Visual Studio's Go to Definition command in VS2005. I am developing web sites using vb in VS2005. My issue is that when I right-click on the name of a sub or function and then click on "Go to Definition" to see the actual source code of the Sub of Function, half of the time it takes me to the Sub/Function source code which is what I want it to do, and the other half of the time it takes me to the object browser instead which doesn't help me much.
It seems to work the way I want it to if the Sub/Function definition is in one of the App_Code modules. It seems to go to the Object Browser when the Sub/Function definition is in the *.aspx.vb pages MasterPage.Master.vb file. How can I change this so that it always goes directly to the Sub/Function source code? If I can't get this to work o.k., is there a way to see the source code from the Object Browser?

Mar 18, 2010Ive created an SSIS package (vs2005, so vb.net only) One of the tasks has to unzip a zip file. To do this ive used java.util.zip library and written some code to unzip the file. Ive just been asked if its possible to use something other than a java library as our network engineers dont want to put the this on our server. Is there anything similar to java.util.zip that I can use in a vs2005 package ?

Jan 20, 2011I have a vs2005 web application project,I upgraded my machine from xp to Windows 7, the web application project not working in vs2005 anymore, does anybody know why windows 7 not support web application project for vs2005? if i upgrade vs2005 web application project to vs2008, will that work in windows 7? and after upgrade, will the original web application project still a web application project or it upgrade to website project?

Jan 6, 2010After following the instructions in Scott Guthrie's blog for converting a web site to a web application project, I am getting many, many errors. Most are either 'Name <control> is not declared.' or 'Type <type> is not defined.' And most, but not all of these errors are in the same .vb page.
Does anyone know the best way to fix this?

Visual Studio :: Code-behind Page Does Not Recognize Controls On Main Page?
Jan 3, 2011My site was working fine in Visual Studio 2008, but the code-behind pages have suddenly stopped recognising new controls which I add to the main page. For example I added a label with id 'lblEventHeader' to the main page and then tried to set a text property in the Page_Load event. I get a compile error of "the name 'lblEventHeader' does not exist in tne current context. Existing controls, which I added before this problem seems to be unaffected.
As far as I am aware, I have not done anything which should cause this. I have even reinstalled Visual Studio, but I still get the same error message. Have I inadvertently deleted or corrupted a reference file. I have checked the Codefile and Inherits properties of the page.

Jan 8, 2011I'm just starting with using VWD and asp.net to create web sites.
I can't get a handle on how to use absolute positioning of asp server controls like the label, textbox, dropdown, etc. on a web form.
I've set the option in settings under CSS styling to change positioning to absolute when dragged from toolbox.
I've set the web form to use absolute positioning at every tag and property I can find.
When I first add the web form, I select absolute positioning. For each control I set absolute positioning and so on. I can see the tags in the source have the style property setup with position: absolute.
But the controls on the form will not move on the page to a absolute position.
Sometimes I can get a button or textbox to move, but not always.
I'm used to designing windows forms and this has been very frustrating.

When I add controls to a new blank web page, I do not seem to be able to control where on the page these controls sit. They default to being jammed up against one another from left to right in the top left corner. Am I missing something? Is something not working? If this is by design, what is the basic method for controlling how controls sit on the web page?

When I double-click on a control in the designer screen to go to the vb code page so I can code on some events, the control does not show in the control dropdown which means I cannot get to all of the different events. Jul 28, 2010I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.

Mar 9, 2010Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 locked up, and when I tried to restart it, it wouldn't load, so I did a devenv.exe /resetuserdata to get it going again. It reset everyhing in my options of the web app/ etc, and now some AJAX conrols don't work such as dragpanel. I assume that it is because something got reset that I haven't enabled again, but can't figure it out.
