May 15, 2010Error Description while browsing the website under IIS "The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file." Initially I deleted the virtual directory, created again, set the permission to anonymous, set the browse and execute permissions, no solution. Then after doing many trials, I found out the basic problem reading the error "not allowed by the security policy". In web configuration file if we set the security policy to Fully Trusted, then problem solved and application working fine. or Set the trust level to the main configuration file in he "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIGweb.config"

WCF / ASMX :: Toggle Between Prod And Test Web Service Without Changing Web.config?
May 5, 2010My web.config is set up so that I don't have to change anything between deploy from UAT and Production. I can determine what machine it is running on and then programatically pick the correct connection string etc from the web.config based on the name.
Now we are adding a call to a web service which now causes us to have to make a change at deploy time. We set a "Region" flag in the web.config and then in coded an IF statement to call the appropriate webservice based on the flag so all we'd have to change is the "T" to a "P" when moving to production. But then hardcoding a web service in the application is not what we want to do. Nor do we want to change the web service address in the web.config.
Is there any way we can do something like the following to be able to not have to change the web.config at deploy?
It would be something like:
1. Grab current Machine name
2. Look in web.config for corresponding machine name web service reference (like we do for connection strings etc)
3. Use that web service in the processing.

Aug 23, 2010I am consuming a third party web service wsdl using my .net aps.net page. And I am getting following error message. Cannt get to resolve it. Its working on my machine but not in my development machine. I have installed the certificate also in certificates on that machine.

Feb 24, 2011I have an existing project with a silverlight3 app. First I created SALESservice.svc.This is working fine. Now I added another TARGETservice.svc to my project and rebuilded my entire project but when I am trying to add the service reference in to the silverlight app I get the following error:
There was an error downloading metadata from the address.verify that you have entered a valid address. I didn't write any code in ISALESservice.svc AND ITARGETservice.svc . I have written in SALESservice.svc.cs AND TARGETservice.svc.cs files.Is this causing error? But for SALESservice.svc it is working. I didn't add any code in web.config file.

It always return javascript undefined error. But if I put the AJAX_Test webmethod in aspx page and replace the url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test" to "mypage.aspx/AJAX_Test". It works fine.

I was able to create a WCF project, host it in a console application & call it from a web application, successfully,But my issue is:
1. In the sample the program logic (say HelloWorld method) is residing in the host service! I think the program logic (all the methods & all) should reside in the WCF application & only host applicication is JUST a means to HOST the WCF. Am I correct. If so how can I do this.
2. In some other samples I see the use of an SVC file (.svc extension). How to use it? When I rt click to add a file in my project, I cannot see any svc file!

VS 2010 - Error Changing Framework Of Windows Service
Nov 17, 2011I have a deadline to install my windows service NOW. I developed it in VS2010 and chose the .NET 4.0 framework. The server where I am installing it, which is a server that hosts our live web sites, does not have .NET 4.0 installed. So I have to change the framework to 3.5. I have this error now when I try to build:

Iframe - Changing The PostBackUrl After A File Download?
Aug 26, 2010I have a ASP.net which allows users to select a number of inputs and dropdown lists to filter the report and to download an Excel report after pressing a button on that same form.
The page can be used mulitple times, by changing the inputs and pressing the download button each time.
The button should be posting back to the hidden IFRAME to a separate webpage, but I am unable to change the target for the form on the fly as needed.

Additonally, when I download the file when pressing the "DownloadToExcel" button, the file downlodads as expected. However, any additional postbacks including updating the screen are posting back to report.aspx and not filter.aspx.
How do I correct the postback so it only postbacks once to download the file, and then change it back to the original page so the screen can continue to be used to filter and download a second report.
This may also eliminate the need of the IFRAME as well.
