WCF / ASMX :: Web Service Returns Empty Set: Xsi:nil="true"?
Aug 25, 2010
I am new to web service. I am trying to connection to an oracle database with 2 input parameters. The web service works fine in the VS2010 environment but when i publish it on to my local machine IIS or on the test web server I do not get a result set back. I get this:
I'm new to WCF and this is definitely a rookie question. Why does my browser show/return nothing when I type this URL: http://localhost/service.svc/root, using the code below. I was hoping I would see an xml respone like: <double>56.78</double>. service.svc
I have a web application in ASP.NET 4.0. I've added an asmx service, primarily as a source for the autocomplete extender's lookup values.
When I debug on my machine locally, everything works fine. However, when I deploy the web application to IIS 7.5, I get a HTTP 404 response when trying to send data to the service.
I am able to browse to the service definition, see the available operations. Tellingly, however, when I use the test pages to test the service using POST, I receive an HTTP 404 again.
I'm not sure what is going on. I did create the asmx file within my web application and it is deployed in the virtual directory of my otherwise working production application. Is there an issue with the .asmx file being deployed in the same virtual directory, perhaps?
how to create a Web service that returns a JSON(or JSONP). That also should be able to work for cross-domain access aswell as for a local call.. help to get this working or for a few links for further reading about this
I have a simple WCF service that returns the time from the server. I've confirmed that data is being sent by checking with Fiddler. Here's the result object xml that my service sends according to fiddler.
[Code]....
Literally the only difference is the namespaces within the application. But still the values being returned are null, empty or a .NET default.
public dynamic GetReferenceTableData(string tableName) { try { dynamic tableData = ReferenceTableDAL.GetReferenceTableData(tableName); return tableData; } catch (Exception ex) { throw; } } method at DAL(ReferenceTableDAL): public static dynamic GetReferenceTableData(string tableName) { Database db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase(Flags.ConnectionStringKey); DbCommand dbCommand = db.GetStoredProcCommand("USP_GETTABLEDATA"); dynamic objDynamic = null; if (tableName.ToLower() == "a") { objDynamic = new List<A>(); } else if (tableName.ToLower() == "b") { objDynamic = new List<B>(); } else if (tableName.ToLower() == "c") { objDynamic = new List<C>(); } try { db.DiscoverParameters(dbCommand); dbCommand.Parameters["IN_TABLENAME"].Value = tableName; DataSet dsTableData = db.ExecuteDataSet(dbCommand); if (tableName.ToLower() == "a") { foreach (DataRow dataRow in dsTableData.Tables[0].Rows) { objDynamic.Add((A)dataRow); } } else if (tableName.ToLower() == "b") { foreach (DataRow dataRow in dsTableData.Tables[0].Rows) { objDynamic.Add((B)dataRow); } } else if (tableName.ToLower() == "c") { foreach (DataRow dataRow in dsTableData.Tables[0].Rows) { objDynamic.Add((C)dataRow); } } } catch (Exception ex) { throw; } return objDynamic; } @ Aspx try { using (DataServiceRef.DataServiceClient petService = new DataServiceRef.DataServiceClient()) { dynamic tableData = petService.GetReferenceTableData(tableName); //tableData is null ,exception } } catch (Exception ex) { throw; }
There is no exception at dal or service end when i debug list gets filled ok but when returns to aspx error at aspx(no exception gets caught at @ service) but exception at aspx i.e:
Message:The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly. Stack Trace: at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelRequest.WaitForReply(TimeSpan timeout)
I have a strongly typed Edit view that expects a viewmodel class. On its post action, I want it to use TryUpdateModel to update the database with the new info. When debugging, TryUpdateModel returns true, but when I look in the database, nothing happened.
This is the controller Action
[Code]....
why this doesn't persist the changes back to the database?
This is driving me crazy. I am using CKEditor so I can not use RFVs. I have succssfully used the combo of onClick and onClientClick for confirmation but when I try to use it with form validating JS it returns true each time and does the postback.
I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:
public String SfTest() { return "SF Test"; }
No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:
public List<String> GetTest() { List<String> list = new List<string>(); String a = "a"; list.Add(a); String b = "b"; list.Add(b); return list; }
I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.
I have a page where, when the user has successfully logged in, I store some values in the session.
I then use these values to load an application list page. This page is automatically refreshed after 20.1 minutes, with the sessionstate timeout and forms timeout in web.config set to 20 minutes (with sliding expiration). This means, if the user does not use any page for more than 20 minutes, he is timed out.
My problem is that the User.Identity.IsAuthenticated sometimes returns true, when the session has expired.
I have a class library which has my LINQ doc in it. I added a stored procedure and I get the following in my .dbml.layout :
[Code]....
I include a reference to the dll of the class library to my web project and I get an error about value being returned as int where I am trying to put contents into a datalist or similar.
Code in class that calls this SP :
[Code]....
So I switched code to the following in my dbml.layout document :
The reason that I select elements by css class selector ($(".classificationFolder")) is that, this control is a user control and used in the same page more than once. That is why I'm not using $("#searcher").
I tested the code In IE8 and Chrome 8.0.552.28 beta. This issue is arising in both of the browsers.
On the other hand, request is sent to the server, client received response successfuly and response is processed on the client.
I have a WCF service with cyclic references that I was using the CyclicReferencesAwareAttribute attribute (http://chabster.blogspot.com/2008/02/wcf-cyclic-references-support.html) to solve. However now I want to use the same service with a Silverlight client. Receiving data works well on the Silverlight client with this method, however the CyclicReferencesAwareAttribute attribute does not work on the Silverlight side when I want to send objects back again.
I have changed to use the IsReference property on the data contract which is supposed to get round with this issue. However now the objects that are returned are empty! (All fields are either default or null). This is the same in my ASP.NET client (original) and my Silverlight client.
Has anyone hit is issue before? Here is the attribute [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContract(Namespace="http://testnamespace.co.uk/entities", IsReference=true)]
This is completely frustrating and probably embarrassing as well. A while back I posted a similar question and resolved the issue. [URL]...scope_identity The program has been working ever since, until yesterday when as it turns out SCOPE_IDENTITY() started returning an empty string even though a record is being inserted. I am not sure what has changed since the fateful day.
[Code]...
I am hoping that there is something I am just not seeing here. A lot of the information I have seen thus far indicates that there are problems with SCOPE_IDENTITY() but most of those are related to inserting multiple records. As you can see this should be fairly straight forward. The thing that really has got my goat is that it used to work and now it doesn't. If someone could take a look at the above code and comment on any anomalies it would be great. Also I have heard suggestions for switching to ADO.NET and it is beginning to look a lot more attractive every day. But I have a ways to go before making the switch so it is SqlDataSources for now
I have developed a web application 3 months ago to show facebook users by searching username. To access facebook, I have downloaded facebook dll and got application key, and secret key from facebook. My web application was working fine and displaying records from facebook. yesterday onwards, my application is not working fine. I could not get response when I search by name. I have tested the fql in the facebook testAPI tool online. That time i can get response. but the same fql i used in my appliation but it could not get response from facebook when I search by name. If i search by uid i can get response from facebook. here is my code.
facebook.Components.FacebookService fb = new FacebookService(); fb.ApplicationKey = "bfeefa69afdfe81975f0d6136ace3009"; fb.Secret = "9b672d682e1d8befd06382953fc2615b"; fb.IsDesktopApplication = false; //the below fql gives response as xml. //select name, profile_url from user where uid = '1730923544' -I can get response for this fql. //the below fql does not give response as xml. But it gives empty string. //the below fql does gives us response as xml when i try in facebook testAPI. //select name, profile_url from user where name = 'Suresh Rajan' -I couldn't get response for this fql. string s = fb.fql.query("select name, pic_square, profile_url from user where name = 'Suresh Rajan'"); if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(str1)) Response.Write("Empty Response"); else Response.Write(str1 + " ");
I have a web form and I have a user control on it. This user control contains a panel with some user properties that are to be stored in a database. So far nothing fancy. The user control itself contains a panel and is working fine (all code to retrieve and store the values is working).
I used the default settings of creating a user control and one of them was AutoEventWireup=true. This works fine because I also have some dropdown boxes (and other fields) that need to be filled with values from the database and that happens in the Page_load event.
The panel specifies the 'DefaultButton' which calls a method when clicked to save the values after the user has changed them.
On this click the code of the method is called, I confirmed that, but I found out that the values of my controls on the user control (for example the Textbox control) are empty. As a non-ASP.NET developer I couldn't figure out why. So I changed some settings like AutoEventWireup to false.
Off course this resulted in my dropdown boxes no longer to be initially filled, but my surprise was big to find out my controls actually contained the values the user typed in.
Logically I need both the values and the dropdowns filled, but for now it seems one or the other.
I am trying to import data from excel and Reading Excel sheet from asp.net returns empty cell, when the data type is changing from number to text example
returns the error: The parameter 'username' must not be empty.Parameter name: usernameI want to check if a user is logged. If not logged in redirect to loginerror.aspx.
I'm trying to set up the SSL in my web app, but don't know if i'm doing it right, or if even i'm taking the right steps in the right order.I have a function in a class that returns the secure URL (https://mydomain.com/...aspx) if the current url is not secure (http)
[Code]....
(Though in develop environment It's like "https://localhost:port" + rawUrl)
when the function returns ssl value, if it's not empty, then the master page redirects to the new url... but the browser is not showing it...
if i have the web application with many pages like add order page, edit order page, and delete order page actually they also interact with the Sql Server 2008 and i also create web service page call Sales_Service.asmx. i know just i need to put something like query into Web Method in Sales_Service.asmx but i have a lot of queries, i don't know which query i should put into it and how the web page call the Sales_Services.asmx
A customer reported that our asmx web service is continually increasing in memory (mem usage as well as private bytes). We are able to reproduce the problem in our lab with Windows 2003 Server SP2 (fully patched) on some of the machines. The customer is using Windows 2008.
We created a Hello World web service targeting the 2.0 framework built under VS2005 SP1 and a test client that continues to call it. The memory increases steadily - approximately 40K per client request. If the test app is paused, the memory remains the same. When it is closed, the memory drops. Explicit calling of GC.Collect does not drop the memory.
We have run the memory profiler on the service and the leak is all native memory. We have uninstalled/re-installed the Framework on one of the machines but no difference. To our knowledge all of the security and IIS settings are not modified. We have compared app pool, default web site and virtual directory properties to machines that have no problem and they are identical.
