public MyClass.CallContext CallContext
return base["CallContext"] as MyClass.CallContext;
base["CallContext"] = value;

Isn't this the correct way of doing this?

C# - Missing Type Or Namespace Name?

Jun 16, 2010

This is an odd one, not one I've come across before. My project complies and runs fine if I have my classes in the root folder (Not in App_Code).As soon as I move them into the App_Code folder then it will compile, but running it will bring up the old

CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' (are you missing an assembly reference?)I don't understand how moving the class(es) to the App_Code folder causes the whole thing to fall apart there?Project target is .Net 4 on VWD 2010 Express

Which Access Modifier For Event Handlers

Apr 1, 2010

I've been programming ASP.NET for a number of years and have got into the habit of using the public access modifier when writing event handlers for nested controls. e.g.

LinkButton ln = new LinkButton();
ln.Click += new EventHandler(LinkClick);
public void LinkClick(object sender, EventArgs e)

I think I started using public because I ran into errors when using other modifiers. Is this the correct one to use here? Does it depend whether you're writing a Page / UserControl / other?

How To Set The Default Access Modifier To Private Instead Of Protected In Visual Studio

Jul 20, 2010

While developing and ASP.NET application in C# or VB using Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 (Not a problem in 2003), if I create a new method automatically by double-clicking on a control in the designer or picking the new method in the code editor dropdowns (VB only), the access modifier is always protected instead of private. This is annoying because my developers have to manually change the method to private every time.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Use The RowDataBound Declaration On A GridView

Aug 11, 2010

I have info from a couple of different tables that I need to be able to double click on a cell in a gridview and navigate to a couple of separate .aspx pages. Yesterday I learned how to use RowDataBound to get the name from a cell on a gridview to use in a delete confirmation dialoge box, and so am pretty sure I should be using this same RowDataBound, but I cant quite figure out where to start.

For example from the gridview below, I need to be able to double click in the "LoginIssue" field and navigate to an "EditLogin.aspx" page and subsequently be able to double click in the "ContractPath" and be able to navigate to a "ContractPath.aspx" page...or popup.

Web Forms :: One Sub In UserClass Not Recognizing Declaration Of Class Variable?

Jul 19, 2010

I have a user control in which I have declared a connection string as a private class variable.

I have a bunch of cascading dropdown lists in this control.

In one of my subroutines PopulateDdlPostalCodes I get an error "Connection was not initialized".

In all the other subs that use Conn, the class variable is being recognized.

If I duplicate the declaration of Conn in this sub then all works ok.

Why is this sub different than all the others?

Web Forms :: Usercontrols: @Register Directive Versus Declaration In Web.config

Jul 8, 2009

Currently I have two web application projects. One is considered a master wap containing common controls, master pages and uncompiled resources, the other wap is consuming the master wap, reusing its resources.

The problem I have is with the consumer wap:

If i use the @Register page directive to consume a usercontrol from the master wap the control loads fine, all child controls initialized and ready to use.

Now I can reference any usercontrol in the master wap directly by using <Master:controlname /> in any page. This is all well and good - apart from one big problem. At runtime, none of the child controls on the consumed control are initialized at Page_Load! When switching back to using the @Register directive, everything is ok.

""the Type Or Namespace Could Not Be Found - Missing A Directive Or Reference"

Dec 10, 2009

I'm very new at C# and coding. I get this error constantly "the type or namespace could not be found. Are you missing a directive or reference" Here's the code. TrtReview is the namespace. I'm getting the 'missing directive error' on ConfigurationProperty. The code is enfolded in a class library. But this code actually works on another page with another

I fixed it by putting a reference from the Class Library to System.Configuration. I don't understand why do I have to do this. Doesn't the Using keyword reference System.Configuration by itself? And why don't I have to do this with other Using sections?

Code Behind Controls Without Declaration?

Feb 9, 2010

I am working on a existing web application which I load from a folder. I mean application semms it is not created as website application from visual studio.

The controls defined in aspx are not having member declarations in .aspx.cs file and no designer.cs files were created. I mean nowhere controls are defined, but simply the controls defined in aspx are accessble in corresponding aspx.cs file wich same id of the control tag. those are being reconized even in intelligense.

How is it possible? is there any special configuration needed to make aspx controls declared automatically for aspx.cs file use.
