Web Forms :: Conditional Style Sheets In Master Page URL Rebasing?

Oct 15, 2010

I have two conditional stylesheets referenced in the head of my master page. Because the are contained in conditional comments to show for IE6 and IE7, the relative URL to the css file isn't getting rendered correctly. Is there any way to rebase the URL within conditional comments as can be done for import css references? Current code below:

<%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="xxx_web.master.cs" Inherits="website_master_xxx_web" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en-GB" lang="en-GB">
<head runat="server">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>xxx website</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="../css/xxx_web_basic.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="../css/xxx_web_structure.css" />
<!--[if lte IE 6]>
&nbsp;<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="../css/xxx_web_ie6.css" />
<![endif]-->
<!--[if lte IE 7]>
&nbsp;<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="../css/xxx_web_ie7.css" />
<![endif]-->
</head>

Web Forms :: Load Style Sheets Dynamically With Database?

Apr 15, 2010

I have been looking for the last day since some who was nice enough to suggest I change the look of my web application theme by haveing different css sheets. I have found many references to

<link runat="server" rel="stylesheet" id="cssIE" type="text/css" />

cssIE.Href = "CSS/StyleSheet1.css"

the thing I want to do is

cssIE.Href = "CSS/" & stylesheet_name

where stylesheet_name is a value from a database entery

The css file has loaded into the app fine and I know the value of stylesheet_name does return what I want because I sent it to a label control and the file name comes up.

Conditional ContentPlaceHolder In Master Page?

Jun 24, 2010

I have two master pages in my project, one for web views and another for emails. In the web master page is a placeholder to put page specific JavaScript, if a page is using this and I try to programmatically change the masterpage to send as an email the server falls over as it can't find the placeholder.

Is there a way to change the behaviour so that if a placeholder can't be found it just doesn't include that bit? I'm thinking maybe on my page base class looping over a collection of placeholders and content tags and removing the ones that don't match up, but I'm not sure if there's a good point in the page lifecycle to do this.

I'm using MVC not WebForms if this makes a difference.

Visual Studio :: Cascading Style Sheets Requesting Data?

Feb 4, 2010

I have a cascading style sheet attached to my html (and they are both saved in the same file on my hard drive), but there are times when I close Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition (end of the day or whenever) and reopen it (the next day or a few hours later) to work on the same html, the style do not show up (the bottom of the screen says "Requesting Data...") and there is a clock next to the style sheet in the apply styles window. It never seems to request the data, and usually I have to open a new html page, save it in the same file, and copy the information over. Some times I have to do this 2-3 times before the style sheet will attach. If I open it in another html editor, the styles show up, but that editor does not have all of the functions that I need.

Web Forms :: Programmatically Access A Div In A Master Page Style Sheet?

Jun 19, 2010

I would like to programmatically access a div in a style sheet for my master page and change its height value depending on the content page loaded.

Can this be done using Javascript in the Master page or in the code behind for the respective page? What I would like is something such as this if possible

When this content page loads, change the height value of this div in the css file

I don't want to use separate Master pages as this seems to defeat the whole purpose of the Master page

Asp Master / Content Page Interaction With Style Sheet

May 5, 2010

Learning how to do a master page in asp.net. Trying to figure out how my style sheet interacts with respects to the master page and content page. I can get HTML tags like body and the style sheet to react. But when I call the ID attribute of a label no styling takes place. What am I missing here as far as interaction? BTW I'm using VS2008

CSS sample:
body
{
height:1200px;
width:920px;
border-style:solid;
border-color:blue;
padding:10px 10px 10px 10px;
}
#toptext1
{
position:relative;
top:-225px;
right:-500px;
font-size:22px;
font-weight:bold;
}
From the master page:
<body>
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<asp:image id="cookNookLogo" ImageUrl="images/Logo.gif" runat="server"
AlternateText="CookNook" Width="449px"></asp:image>
<p>
<asp:Label ID="toptext1" runat="server" Text="Quality Recipes, Hints and Supplies"></asp:Label>
</p>
From the content page:
<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/CNMasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Home.aspx.cs" Inherits="Home" Title="Untitled Page" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="head" Runat="Server">
<link href="App_Themes/cn/cn.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
</asp:Content>

When I was doing this without a master page it worked so where am I going wrong with the attributes?

Web Forms :: Writing Common / Master 'Signed In As' Style Bar?

Oct 22, 2010

I'd like to add a typical 'Signed in as' bar, cf this site.Since it's 'common', first thought is: master page.However any controls designed on a master page are only rendered 'in' the final page...... so you need the 'this' (Page reference) to access the control... so you can't write code 'on' a master page, whose 'this' is not a Page.HttpContext has Session, Request, etc - all useful but none with a 'Page' reference that I've noticedUpdatePanel looks neat, but I'd prefer a non-Ajax solution to learn the 'basic' way before perhaps later making it 'smarter' with Ajax.Question therefore is: how to write a script that is site-wide, for a master page, that references controls on the (rendered) master page, with or without a 'Page' reference.

Web Forms :: Define Reusable Master Page Type To Reuse Parts Of The Master Page?

Jan 5, 2011

My Project is a normal web site, not a Web Project, and I am using VS 2005.

I am trying to define common Master Page Type in app_code which has an area to display error messages and the like. Very simple.

I added the following in app_code:

[Code]....

Also, I added the following in Master Page Source Declaration:

[Code]....

Also, I added the controls tblrowErrMsg and lblErrMsg as server controls to the Master Page.

Why I am doing this ?

This will allow me to display error messages from nearly any where inside the code in code-behined, app_code, and other core Class Projects (DLL).

Web Forms :: Master Pages - How To Access Content Page From Master Page

Sep 5, 2010

I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

Web Forms :: Get Nested Master Page From Main Master Page

May 30, 2010

I'm trying to dynamically change the look of my main master page depending on what nested master page that the current content page is using .

So for example.

Main master page = main.master
My nested page = nested.master (uses main.master)
content page = content.aspx (uses nested.master)

So in the Page_Load event of main.master I want to add a switch statement that will check to see what nested master page is currently being used by content.aspx, or whatever content page is loaded.

So far I have got

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string nMaster = //This is the line of code that I am looking for.
switch(master)
{
case "nested.master":
//all my logic here.
break;
}
}

State Management :: Master Page's Treeview Selected Node / Setting The Properties In Master Page?

Aug 2, 2010

I have a master page containing a tree and 3 dropdown lists. I am populating a context menu on right click of each node, and when clicked on any item of the context menu, it navigates to required pages.

My problem is after navigating to the required page, the selected values from the drop down lists and the selected node from the tree are getting cleared.

I can set the selected values for the dropdown lists by making some properties in master page.
But how do i maintain the selected node?

In my content page, i have got the valuepath of the right clicked node.

Or is there any other way than setting the properties in master page?

Web Forms :: Master Page (site.Master) File That Now Contains Nothing But Hex Code, Mainly 0's And 1'...

Feb 3, 2011

My computer system froze on me, the mouse froze, cntrl-alt-del, did nothing, so I reset it. Did a disk check, and now everything seems fine except for my master Page html code which I was in the middle of editing when it happened. The VB code-behind file is still ok, the designer file still shows ok with all of the controls in it, but I can't get into desgn or source view. It just opens and gives a whole page of hesixecimal code such as as:

00000030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

00000040 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

It just gives me a whole page full of numbers like this. I haven't backed up for a few weeks and so I hope I can get this back.
