Web Forms :: Controls Not Being Recognized At Runtime?
Jan 14, 2011
I created a new page in an existing project. The existing pages are still good, but the new page is having problems at runtime. The problem is that controls are not recognized and throw a "object reference not found" error. I even tried Page.FindControl and that didn't work either. This is only happening with this page. The controls are recognized at design time, and are not recognized only at runtime.
The controls were copied from a regular Web form into a content form with a master page. They worked fine when in the regular web form. Could that be the issue?
I tried creating a new page and moving the controls over, but that didn't fix the problem. I also tried deleting the designer file and recreating it (using convert to web application) but that didn't resolve it either. I'm out of ideas here. Here is the page directive and the first control that is not recognized.
<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="default_grid.aspx.cs" Inherits="TestItemDevelopment.default_grid" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content4" ContentPlaceHolderID="mainContentHolder" runat="server">

I am developing a Web app that is based on ASP.NET 3.5, and i added some page from ASP.NET MVC, everything is ok, until i use the "HTML" helper class, then the page is not being able be render, because this is not recognized.
For Example : Html.BeginForm() => this is not recognize as a method
But if i used "System.Web.Mvc.Html.FormExtensions.BeginForm", which is a extension method itself, it work fine.
Environment : ASP.NET MVC 2 and ASP.NET 3.5

I downloaded iTracker to get started doing some web development with ASP.NET. I don't understand why in the code behind file, the standard web controls are not recognized.
For example:
This is the ASPX File ...............
<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" MasterPageFile="~/ITracker.Master" CodeBehind="Details.aspx.vb" Inherits="dfs.ITracker.Details"
title="Untitled Page" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphTitle" runat="server">

I need to access controls of aspx page and usercontrol page through the external .js file. I created a global varaible in the aspx page
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
var loadPanelID = "<%=ajaxLoadingPanel.ClientID%>";
</script>
Now I pass this value in the onclick event of button click (Let the funtion name be Fun(loadPanelID) ) . The controls is recognised in the .js file. Everything is fine till now. Now i need to call the same javascript method Fun() from the button click of usercontrol.
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
var loadPanelID = "<%=ajaxLoadingPanel1.ClientID%>";
</script>
I have ajaxLoadingPanel1 in the usercontrol and I have defined global variable as in the first one in ascx and passed that value to Fun() method. But this time it gives error called "loadpanelID" is undefined.

I recently added a repeater control to a page
<asp:Repeater runat="server" Visible="true" ID="repeaterApp" > </asp:Repeater>
When I go to the page_load event in the codebehind, I can't seem to find this control at all. No intellisense whatesover. I've tried renaming, closing the solution, even changing the codebehind directive at the top of my aspx page to "codefile".

I am extracting some value from my database table. there is a files haiving datatype dattime. in some recordsthis column has null value, by default.

lblDonorname.Text = dt.Rows[0]["SubContarctor_Name"].ToString();
string dtrequest = dt.Rows[0]["Request_Date"].ToString();
if (dtrequest.ToString()!="")
{
DateTime dtrequest1 = Convert.ToDateTime(dt.Rows[0]["Request_Date"].ToString());
lblRequestDate.Text = dtrequest1.ToString("dd/MM/yyyy");
}
lblSubConAmount.Text = dt.Rows[0]["Sub_ContractAmt"].ToString();

This is odd. I have a simple detailsView on an aspx page, which I dragged and dropped. I think edited each basic text box in the grid to either be a date picker, or a drop down list. This is working. I can see my data fine with no errors. This is an "edit" page, so when the user clicks "Save", I do a simple "update" statement. However, when I'm writing the code for the save button, the intellisense isn't picking up any of my control names?? Here's an example of my code:

I just installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010, and it looks like there's something wrong with the standard ASP.NET server controls. When I create a basic server control, such as a TextBox, the editor underlines it in green and says (I also get no intellisense for ASP.NET controls): Element 'TextBox' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the Web.config file is missing. The web site builds fine, and the Web.config file is not missing:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="false" targetFramework="4.0" />
</system.web>
</configuration>
The controls work just fine in the code-behind, and they function correctly when I run the site. Is there some configuration problem here?

I noticed that some aspx controls were not being recognized by intellisense, and when I tried to compile, I got errors stating that the controls basically didn't exist.
After a lot of tinkering, I realized that the .aspx.designer.cs file was missing for several .aspx files.
What is the best way to re-create the files?

I'm creating a Linq to SQL dynamic data web-site. I have created a new project, added a Linq to SQL classes object to my App_Code folder, and dragged the relevant tables from my Server Explorer window onto the dbml designer. I've saved and built my solution. So, I have this in the dbml code file:
[Code]....
I get the following error: The type or namespace name 'DealerClassesDataContext' could not be found.

lblRequestDate blank
how to do that, even I am not understanding if it work for some records then it should work for all records where as all records having NULL value.

I am having trouble formatting the date on a textbox I get the error above if I don't enter the date in MM/DD/YY format in the textbox. I am also using this in a FormView so I can't format it or don't know how to in the code behind so if there is a way to format it in design view that would be preferable. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would do any of this.
<asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("BIRTH_DATE", "{0:d}") %>' Font-Names="Tahoma"
Font-Size="X-Small" ToolTip="MM/DD/YYYY" ID="txtBirthDate" runat="server"
TabIndex="2" CssClass="style5"></asp:TextBox>

I am in the process of adding my custom aspx pages to the LAYOUTS folder(a folder I created) in a WSPbuilder solution in VS08. The problem I am having is when I build the solution it fails because the controls(Load, Textboxes, dropdown lists,etc) in the code behind file for the custom aspx pages say they are not defined. They all have a blue squiggly line and I get over 100 errors.what to do to get the WSP to recognize the code behind pages.

I have an SqlDataSource with several parameters, one of which is a date/time, that is in the database it is stored in one field as short date + long time, i.e., "11/14/2010 9:15:34 PM".
I pass a string to that parameter which looks exactly like that, but I get an error: "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime?"

I am very new to ASP .NET and am getting above error when trying to insert a new record into a SQL database. I have turned on Option Explicit On so the default date of 01/01/1900 does not get assigned to this field automatically. Since most of the people in the database will not have a date of death, I need to have "blank" deathDate. When I run the stored procedure within SQL and choose pass null value, the Insert Procedure works fine. When I attach to Web Form, however, I get String was not recognized as a valid DateTime error. How can I set it so Null values are accepted into this date field.

i am writing a datetime string to my sql db and i get the above error. code is as follows:
String WCRDate = txt_Date.Text;
String WCRTime = DDL_Hour.SelectedValue + ":" + DDL_Min;
DateTime WCRDateTime = new DateTime();
WCRDateTime = DateTime.ParseExact( WCRDate + " " + WCRTime , "dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm" , new CultureInfo("en-GB",true));
the txt_Date.text field gets the date from an asp calendar in the format 21/07/2010
