Web Forms :: Creating Dynamic Buttons That Pass Value And Have OnServerClick
Jan 28, 2011
I've created some dynamic buttons on page load but the buttons need to have an onserverclick event and pass a value. I used buttons because they can pass a value. My code below so far, just outputs onserverlick to the html page, which is obviously not what I want. Would it be possible to use some other method, I originally used hyperlinks until I needed to pass a value (I didn't want to use querystrings).
[Code]....
I would like to replicate this functionality with the asp:DropDownList control i.e. I have several dropdowns which I would like to call the same code behind routine. However it seems that asp controls do not support the OnServerClick option. Is there a way to explicitly define which code behind routine to call on an asp control?
So I have a page that is rendering data from an MSSQL instance into an HTML table. The last cell has a button to download an uploaded file from the database which is created manually during the table creation so I can enter the recordid as a parameter of the button.
The upload and download functions work perfectly fine. The problem is that I cannot get my dynamically created button to work . All it does is post back but I never get the actual file to send from the server. (Although I verified it works through other means). Any suggestions would be great, I've litterally spent all day on this. below are a few code snippets of the different methods i've tried.
RenderControl. This is great but it loses the onclick method
im creating dynamic buttons on page load and on the click event of button1 handlere iam creating more buttons this is going fine but on click event of button 2 work is not done so how to maintain a chain of creation of button on click events
I'm trying to create a list (customized table) with data pulled from the database and display it to the user in a format that looks very much like a forum thread and replies or posts.Which each of these "posts" I require to have buttons specific to that particular column to edit, delete etc.How do I create buttons on the fly and associate an event handler (button clicked) method with it?
<% Dim i As Integer = 0%> <% For i = 0 To 5%> <asp:Button runat="server" Text="Station<%=i %>" /> <% Next%>
I'm tring to display several buttons in loop but I am not able to set Text values of each button different. Every button displays Station <%=i%> instead of Station 1, Station 2 and so on.
I'll start out by saying that I am kind of new to the Wizard control. What drew me to it, was the fact I didn't need to pass variables between pages with the traditional methods. Now I am faced with a situation where I may have to use those methods. On Step 2, I have a handful of LinkButtons that look similar to this...
[Code]....
I figured I could hide the item in a hidden field control before transfering over to the next page by changing the activestepindex. That's not the case. The first trip through the steps, I never retrieve the value in Step 3 from the hiddenfield. However, if I called boxChanger to get to Step 3, use the previous button (buttons are visible on Step 3) to change index back to Step 2, then called boxChanger again, I see the value called from the first time I called BoxChanger. Is there a way to accomplish this or am I stuck with the old fashioned methods? Hopefully, I am being clear enough with what I need.
I am not sure how to do this. I have part of it working and I think I understand why it isn't working, I just not sure what I have to do to fix it... I am dynamically placing some data into an ASP:Table from a DataSet. This is all done from the Page_Loud event. I am looping through the dataset by going through the rows no problem to display the data in cells added by rows to the asp:table.
What I am also doing though is adding a button for each row that is to run an Access insert query that adds a record in a log table.I have used the following code to get this to work which it does, most of this is called through functions in the Page_loud event. this is the gist of it:
this is in a loop of the DataSet for (int i = 0; i < dsResult.Tables[0].Rows.Count - 1; i++) { Button btn = new Button(); btn.Text = strDynamicText; intTID = dsResult.Tables[0].Rows[i].ItemArray[5].ToString();
[Code]....
Here is the problem I am having. The button does display for each row, and the query does execute and run when I press the button. The values being passed in intTID and intUserGroup (are global), are suppose to be different for each row though, and are to insert a unique table ID, and a different group depending on what is in the dataset. Problem is, it is only assigning the last tableID from the result set into the button and will always pass that same ID no matter what button is pressed. This is the same with the intUserGroup. It needs to dynamically have differnent table IDs passed but that's not happening. What do I have to do differently to make sure that when the button is created dynamically it will pass the unique values for each row?
the buttons are created fine, when i click a button i get my javascript alert, but my labels arent updated, its like the serverside function isnt running it at all
the "SetTemplateContent" section the aspx section is at the bottom if that helps
whats up with the code that would be great, cheers
I am pulling some dynamic data from database SP (data will change). I need to show that data into row format with radio buttons and i need to retive same data from the page (as user selection on radio buttons values) to save data to DB. create such page with data.
I have a control that displays a list of comments. The comments are created in a loop. The problem is that I want to put a LinkButton at the end of each comment and change the CommanArgument of each button to the ID of the current comment.
When I put the Linkbutton in the CreateChildControls method and then add the CommandArgument in the Render loop, the button works, but the argument is blank. When I put the code that's in the CreateChildControls method inside of the loop, I don't get an error, but nothing happens when the button is clicked.
I am going to deploy my Application on server but instead of specifying connection string (servername .server userid , password) in web.config manually is their any way of entering the server details in the web.confi file dynamically from client side when i first run the application.
in the starting page the user must specify the server details and database name from which he want the data to be loaded .And once i enter the server details it should bepermanently stored in the web.config file instead of dataabse.
I'm customizing a NopCommerce store, and am using a gridview to display and sort the products. All that works well. I like how the external pager (user control) works with the gridview, with one exception -- it uses the hyperlink control, so I lost viewstate, which I need to retain for both the search page and to retain the gridview sort options. Based on the page selected (from the pager control), I query the database and rebind the gridview. So, I switched the user control to use LinkButtons instead of Hyperlinks. This is the sample code for one of the buttons:

I set a breakpoint inside the lbCommandClick method, but it never gets hit. Reading other posts tells me that I would have to add the dynamic controls in the OnLoad method, but since this all happens based on other data on the page (say search results), I don't think I can do it onLoad. However, the link buttons do work to cause a postback, and my viewstate is saved correctly. The only problem is that I do not know which button was clicked. I could check Request.Params["__EVENTTARGET"] onLoad, but that is kind of a hack -- I'd much rather be able to set the event handler in the user control and use the CommandArgument property. But, what I have tried so far fails.
Especially one that would allow me to set the EventHandler in the User Control? (e.g. OnlbCommand="PagerLBPageChange" )
We have a requirement of creating an input page which might be different for different users, changing will be in terms of number and type of fields. How should I architect this page. Should i create page using "XML and XSLT" or "XML and database fields" or is there any more flexible way to create this type of page. I couldn't visualise the flow in which this should be implemented.
I have an xml feed that contains a list of form fields that I need to create and then submit to the server once a user has filled it out. Below is a snippet of the xml I am working with. how I should go about creating these controls and retrieving their values on postback?

i am working on a project in which i have to create newsletters. We wish to give user functionality of editing the complete layout ( drag and drop if possible) I am able to achieve drag and drop with web parts but can't customise them much like adding richtext box and saving multiple copies of same page with different layouts. I then wish to enable user to send the html only part of page which contains dynamic layout.
I am creating a dynamic <asp:Table> based on a user's selection from a DropDownList. The number of columns and rows in the table depends on the user's choice from the DropDown.
The final two columns in each row needs to contain an Edit and Delete button. I am able to create these buttons programmatically. However, I am unable to get the click event to fire.
After researching this, it appears to be the case that my dynamic Web controls need to be created in the page Init method.
However, I am unable to do this as I do not know how many table rows, columns and buttons to create, until after the user has made a selection from a DropdownList.
I would be be very grateful for some tips on the correct way to create and enable the events for my dynamic buttons, in this scenario.
Here is a brief outline of how the program currently works (this is just a brief outline I quickly sketched, small details may be wrong!):
I want to create dynamic buttons on button click event(for example., btnCreateDynamic_Click).
I tried creating dynamic buttons on page_load event and Pre_int event. They are all working but i want to create them in button click event. How can i do this in c# asp.net?
I have asp.net page on which I have placeholder and a button. After the button is clicked I want several LinkButtons to appear on my placeholder, and I want specyfic handler to be connected to click_event of my LinkButtons. Here is the code:
protected void Button_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { for(...) { LinkButton l = new LinkButton(); l.ID = "link" + i; l.Command += new CommandEventHandler(link_Command); PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(l); } } void link_Command(object sender, CommandEventArgs e) { PlaceHolder1.Controls.Clear(); Label l = new Label(); l.Text = e.CommandArgument.ToString(); PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(l); }
The LinkButtons will be visible but their event won't fire. How should I solve this? I need to generate LinkButtons inside the Button_Click event, because only then I will know how many buttons to create.
