Web Forms :: Cross - Browser Compatability And Styling?
Jan 27, 2010
I'm trying to use WebParts and I'm about ready to pull my hair out due to a couple of issues:
1.) Whenever I open my page up in Firefox, the dropdown that holds the verbs is being rendered as a row of hyperlinks across the top of the title bar. Since I put in custom verbs, this makes a single part as wide as the page and look terrible. How do I fix this?
2.) Are there any resources out there that show how to restyle the chrome and the drop down list that has the verbs?
I Have Page That Have GridView This GridView Have a Lot Of Rows my clients Want To Freeze The Fisrt column and curresponding header(For Horizontal scroll), and I tried below code
I have a datagrid and vertical-horizontal scrollbars in it. now when datagrid will have more records , scoll bars will be provided. now when i scroll vertically , my header line of the datagrid is also scrolling so i wanna freeze it. i have used javascript to freeze it , its working in IE properly but there is problem with other browser.
i used this :[URL] but its not working in other browser.
In our organization, we are still on .net 1.1 environment, using javascript, a few open source applications/widgets. Development is done using Visual Studio 2003, grid view, and iframes. Our application works in Internet Explorer 7 and IE 8 (in compatibilily mode).give any basic steps we can take to get our application to work cross browsers? What are the starting locations we can get at to start making existing code work in different browsers?
I need to make my site work well on a blackberry, i haven't put too much effort into getting this working yet, but i have a few questions which google is struggling with.I've read about detecting brower type and modifying the default behaviour of asp.net controls hereHow would I go about supplying a differant stylesheet to a specific browser, should i just do this?
This will work fine, but i feel like there is a better method, i'm sure i've read about something in the past but i can't seem to recall.I'm also considering a response.redirect to a differant page for a blackberry, which at the moment i would implemenet in a similar way.
I have 2 domains that resolve to my web site www.mysite.com and www.mysitecommonmisspelling.com, plus the IP address. I have some code in my Global.asax file that was intended to force all users and crawlers to only use the main domain, like so:
Protected Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
'If the domain isn't the correct top level domain for this environment,
'we want to do a 301 redirect to tell the search engines that this is not the right domain to
'index. Dim Host As String = Me.EnvironmentHost Dim CurrentHost As String = Request.Url.DnsSafeHost[code]....
I checked and Google has not indexed any pages on www.mysitecommonmisspelling.com, so they are apparently respecting the 301. However, a few days ago we had a customer on our site who got free shipping because the licensing code that is only registered for www.mysite.com failed (in other words, the browser was able to access www.mysitecommonmisspelling.com). In the past, we have had issues with the 3rd party shipping component because users were able to access the site using the IP address.
In any case, we don't want users to be able to access the site without the correct domain so the SSL certificate doesn't complain.
I have searched for a way to disable 301 redirects in IE7, but there doesn't appear to be a way. So, what I am wondering is if there are any browsers that can disable 301, and if so what kind of workarounds can I put in place to ensure all browsers on my site are going to the main domain, www.mysite.com?
I have an ASP.NET page and I am trying to quickly match the validation controls that are tied to a particular textbox (text input) using a jQuery selector. The validation controls render as a span and the "controltovalidate" property renders as an expando property. Here is a test example:
The problem: the ml_test() function shows 1 in Internet Explorer 7 (as expected), but shows 0 in Firefox 3.6.8. I tried adding additional controls, but in Firefox it consistently doesn't work.
I discovered this post that shows the use of an ampersand in the selector like this [@expando=value], but when I try this syntax, jQuery 1.4.2 throws an error.
Is there a cross-browser way to select expando attributes, and if so, what is the proper syntax?
We're investigating if it's possible to have the following: A webpage with multiple 'folders' to which a user can drag & drop a files. It's meant to be used as an interface to upload scanned documents to an archive. For example, we would have page that states: 'Quotes', 'Invoices' & 'Misc'. Depending on the sort of document the user would drag & drop the file from the local file system to one of these three folders. It should then upload the file to the correct folder on the web server
i created a navigation page by using asp:menu control, and after when i viewed it in Internet explorer8, the SubMenu's are not displaying. But when i checked the Compatibility view button which is next ot Stop and Refresh Or in Tools->CompatabilityView. then it is displaying the submenus. same problem exists in Google Chrome but not in FireFox how to view the submenus without changing the Compatability settings.
I know there is a hotfix KB981201 which solves the problem of level 2 menus not displaying in IE8 without compatability view turned on, but does that hotfix fix the control or does it have to be run on every PC that want's to view the page? i.e. is it a fix to the ASP.NET libraries or to the browser?
Ive got to go back to an old web application project done in VS 2003. I know 2005 will convert it, but I've never had a lot of success with it, so I'd rather just stay in 2003 for this minor change. Anyway, my original system that I did this work on has changed too much and IIS isn't working anymore, so I decided to use an older laptop that I had just recently refreshed with XP Pro SP3. After installing IIS (and the front page extensions) then installing VS 2003, IIS refuses to work right. Any attempt to access it yields a security error. I havent even loaded my project on this machine yet, so this is a straight IIS problem.
Specifically, any access to localhost results in a login dialog being displayed for which no valid login will work. Once I cancel, I get a 402.1 error.
HTTP 401.2 - Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration Internet Information Services Here are a few things I've tried.
I ran asp_regiis -i from the 1.1 and 2.0 framework directories.
Reset iis a few times with iisreset
Altered the security settings on the inetpub directory. previously some users did not have any permissions, and the ASPNET and IUSR accounts were not added. I added them and gave any user in the list Read/Execute permissions.
I know the error is very vague, but thats what makes it so annoying. I'm drawing blanks and the only thing I can think of is that SP3 just doesn't work with 2003 any longer. I'm building a VM with a brand new SP3 install to try again and another with SP2 as we speak to see if I have any better success.
i am "attempting" to use the Menu control to dispaly a static site map. To do this i simply set my StaticDisplayLevels to 10 to ensure the 4 levels of navigation i have all show up. this works fine but we require styling the upper level items differently from the lower items. Since i am not using Dynamic items i can't set DynamicItemStyles separate from StaticItemStyles (if anyone knows how to keep other levels dynamic but force them to stay expanded im all ears!)
Anyways i set an even on the MenuItemDataBound that gets rid of hidden elements and i wanted to use this similarly to a repeater control to hook into the hyperlink i have in the StaticItemTemplate and set a class. Only problem is using e.Item does not allow for a "FindControl" method. Is there any way to cast a menu item as a ListItem or somethign where i can actually try to find the control within it?
Or any other alternatives on styling levels differently. I noted that the e.Item has a propert of Depth which i can use to determine how to style it. just can't seem to get into the item to find any controls.
I have this issue which isstopping me from completing my web forms.
there are checkbox lists and radiobutton lists in my page. In FF, they are displayed properly. But in IE, there is an extra box around the checkbox and an additional circle around the radiobuttons. I tried using different stylehseets with no results.
I'm in the process of styling an asp.net menu in .NET 4 and I'm trying to understand the meaning of the StaticSelectedStyle-CssClass and StaticHoverStyle-CssClass parameters. My understanding is that the styles defined with these parameters are applied as CSS classes to the relevant elements, whenever needed. So I created my menu as follows:
[Code]....
It works for StaticMenuStyle-CssClass and StaticMenuStyle-CssClass (the classes are applied to the relevant elements), but StaticSelectedStyle-CssClass and StaticHoverStyle-CssClass are not applied, regardless of the selected or hover status of an element. Here is the generated HTML:
[Code]....
So as you can see, StaticMenuStyle and StaticMenuItemStyle are applied, but not StaticSelectedStyle-CssClass or StaticHoverStyle-CssClass. Not sure why. I know I can use selected but isn't the expected behavior that StaticSelectedStyle-CssClass be applied??? By using selected I make assumptions as to what .NET does behind the scenes and that's not right.
Using VS2008, .NET 3.5, and C#. The page contains (among other things) a dropdownlist and an objectdatasource. The Page_Load event fires the objectdatasource's Select event. The Selected event iterates through the returned datatable, feed each row into a ListItem, checks to see if a certain column is True or False and, if true, changes the styling for that row to color:red. Finally, the listitem is bound to the dropdownlist. The end users sees all of the dropdownlist items that are false in black and the items that are true are in red. Works perfectly. However, as soon as any item is selected, the page does a postback and the font colors in the dropdownlist revert to the default black. Is there a way, other than rerunning the method that iterates through table and creates the listitems, of maintaining the coloration of the items? Is there a ViewState setting or something?
Here is the dropdownlist and objectdatasource's Selected event:
using .net 4 and vs 2010 I have a gridview control that refuses to wrap the text in one column in IE 8, Safari 5 and Chrome 5, resulting in the grid extending outside of the page wrapper. I've got it to behave in IE 7 by creating a CSS class like so:
[Code]....
FF and Opera seem to rendere it correctly without any styling whatsoever. I've tried using the <ItemStyle wrap="true" /> property with no success. I've tried setting the wrap property in the designer with no success.
Im loading some results from a SQL Stored procedure into a Grid View. From my stored procedure I simply get 2 columns returned, Details and Savings, the savings are being returned in the format 30.50123 I want to limit this to 2 decimal places and put a euro sign in front of it like so €30.50, I have managed to do this however its adding a new "savings"column to my Grid view which I obviously don't want. So I now have a savings column with the correct format of €30.50 and my 2 columns from my stored procedure
I have a gridview control having the following columns.
ContestantID Public Votes Judges Votes Public Percentage Total Schedular ID Formula 4 200 1 51.282 330 2 130 3 190 2 48.718 450 2 260 2 1 ?? 25 1 1 ?? 1 3 ?? 75 3 1 ??
On the basis of SchedularID i want to compare the value in column total and make the one with higher value as bold. But the problem is i am calculate the Total column at run time inside Row databound even. So any solutions?
I have a grid view that always displays even number of rows. Is it possible to apply same styling for two contineous rows. So for example there would be different background color for rows no 1,2 and 3,4 I would prefer to do that in code behind.
I have a gridview which i was trying to set the row that was currently selected to a different color.. i have used the SelectedRowStyle and works fine, but my needs are to highlight the row regardless of what button or link was clicked on within the row.. thats my description of "selected" i know that that the styles are based on events.. but i dont care if you click on edit, select, delete or any other button within the row.. i want to highlight the row so you know what record you are working with.. if i add the EditRowStyle, then if i selected row 5 it highlights.. no biggy, but with the edit row style, if i then click edit on row 2, then i have 2 records highlighted.. Is there not any way to determine if anything was done within a row and highlight it?
In the example below I have set the control style to 'controlName' I want to use this class to define what my textbox looks like in edit mode. This works ok, so far so good. The Problem In a button event I add the class "validationError" to this textbox if the data is incorrect. When the grid gets rendered I expect to get 'controlName validationError as the class applied to the textbox. Unfortunately, it seems that the declarative statement overrides this and simply ends up as 'controlName' how I can intercept the application of the declarative class so that I get what I desire here?
