Web Forms :: DataAdapter - Get Rid DBConcurrencyException?

Aug 19, 2010

I have a DataSet containing a small two-by-two table. When I call the da.Update(DataTable) method, I get the infamous DBConcurrencyException. However, the change does get updated in the actual database. What's up with that? I checked the RowState for both rows and one is Modified while the other is Unchanged. I would very much like to get rid of that exception!

Forms Data Controls :: DataAdapter Displays One Location Before The Description ?

Jul 12, 2010

I have almost got this all working but one thing. What i am doing is SELECTING a number of details from a table which is for job vacancies. I am then displaying the job_name, a short description about the job and finally the location's the job is available in..If you look on this page:http://kidsunlimited.co.uk/vacancies_test.aspx

You will see a list of Vacancies shown BY job name. The problem occurs when the job is available in more than once location. Take a look at the Cook vacancy. It should be reading as Cook, then the description and then location which in this case there are 2.But instead it mixes them up and displays one location before the description and one after..This is the code i have :

The problem is on this line i think:

Forms Data Controls :: Update One Or Two Columns In A Table Without Using Dataadapter / Dataset?

Mar 14, 2010

1. As per my knowledge we use dataadapters/dataset when we want to deal with the huge amount of column/data. Is there anyway that if I want to update one or two columns in a table without using dataadapter/dataset?

2. There is a way that without clicking a button we can get the data using objectdatasource, I mean to say that there is no vb.net data in the code behind then how to debug if there is not data in vb.net in code behind.

What's The Difference Between A DataSource And DataAdapter

May 6, 2010

Title says it all. What is the difference between a DataSource and DataAdapter? I'm trying to decide if I should descend from IDataSource or IDataAdapter for code to be shared between Winforms and WebForms and I can't seem to figure out what the difference is other than slightly different ways to use them.

Sort DataAdapter Alphabetically - VB.Net

Nov 30, 2010

This should be a fairly simple one. I am creating a dataset which will contain a description field which I would like to sort by. The reason I want to sort the dataadapter and not in my SQL is that I am already ordering by the results that have a particular value. My SQL looks like this:

SELECT pif_desc, pif_fund, psf_end, (CASE WHEN SUM(pmi_units) IS Null THEN 0 ELSE SUM(pmi_units) END) As fundunits FROM tbl_mem INNER JOIN tbl_sfunds ON pm_scheme = psf_scheme INNER JOIN tbl_invfun ON tbl_fund = tbl_fund LEFT JOIN pe_minv ON pmi_fund = pif_fund AND pm_member = pmi_member WHERE pm_member = @pm_member GROUP BY pif_desc, pif_fund, psf_end ORDER BY fundunits DESC

My VB looks like this:

Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("getMembersFundsDCGENST", conn)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
Dim p_pm_member As New SqlParameter("@pm_member", SqlDbType.Int)
p_pm_member.Value = pm_member
cmd.Parameters.Add(p_pm_member)
Dim p_period_closing_date As New SqlParameter("@closingdate", SqlDbType.DateTime)
p_period_closing_date.Value = period_closing_date
cmd.Parameters.Add(p_closing_date)
Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter(cmd)
da.Fill(ds)

I want to sort the datarows is ds.tables(0) by pif_desc but still have the rows with fundunits > 0 listed first.

First Dataset - Dataadapter Namespace - How To Reference

Jun 25, 2010

How do I reference my data adapter? I've been running through some tutorials (worx Professional ASP.Net 4 in c#) but have become stuck after creating my data adapter and trying to reference it. Steps I have taken to get this far: Added an 'App_Code' folder to project and added a dataset in it. I dropped a data adapter onto the visual dataset designer screen and followed the prompts for select statement etc. I tested the query and it worked. So under the App_Code folder I have a 'Product.xsd' file, which has 3 files under it (Product cs,xsc and xss files.) Created a new object 'Web-> Webform'. I dropped a gridview onto the form and a couple of textboxes and a button for filtering (my select is narrowed down by a date range).Tried to put code into c# section to fill dataset on page load but ran into problems. Code attached below.

Feb 24, 2010

i'm tring to read data from a sql DB, where is email == mystring - then display its name here is the code:

string mystring;
mystring = "email@email.com";//"Welcome " + System.Convert.ToString(Session["user"]);
generalTableTableAdapters.kurtula_generalTableAdapter generals = new
generalTableTableAdapters.kurtula_generalTableAdapter();
generalTable.kurtula_generalDataTable genaraltab = generals.Getgeneral();

DataSource Controls :: DataAdapter Update Method?

Feb 19, 2010

i am having a datatable with 10 rows.

Out of this 10 rows 3 Rows have their RowState as Added, 2 rows as Modified, and 4 as Deleted.

Now i want to use Datadapter's InsertCommand, UpdateCommand and DeleteCommand

Is it possible to update datatable's changes to Database with Single DataAdpater.Update(DataTable) Call.

Means i will call DataAdapter.Update(DataTable) method only once and with this all new added rows should be inserted in database, modified rows should be updated and deleted rows should be deleted from Database.

Returning Single - Row Queries Using DataAdapter - DataTable And DataRow

Feb 10, 2011

I'm fairly new to ASP.NET and am working through a tutorial that demonstrates the use of DataAdapter, DataTable, and DataRow classes. The tutorial focuses on binding returned DataTables to GridView objects - I'm having trouble understanding what to do to extract one row for display. I've found I can do the following:

ProductsTableAdapter productsAdapter = new ProductsTableAdapter();
Northwind.ProductsTable productsTable = productsAdapter.GetSingleByProductID(searchID)
Northwind.ProductsRow productRow = (Northwind.ProductsRow)productsTable.Rows[0];

A ProductsTable should be able to return its own ProductRows w/o resorting to a cast, no? Can't find how to do it otherwise. I'm thinking how to go about creating a form where the user will only ever be working on one record at a time. Wouldn't it make sense for the DAL to return a ProductsRow instead of a ProductsTable?

DataSource Controls :: Using Dataadapter For Custom Add / Delete Of Database Table

Feb 12, 2010

My code is not updating the sql database. I am definately passing the correct information in to this function, and it runs without errors. If I exec the procedure with the passed in data, it works great. Can someone tell me what is missing?

public DataTable UpdateEmailList(int listId, string connectionString, DataTable EmailList)
{
//DataTable dt = new DataTable();
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
conn.Open();
SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(null, conn);
SqlCommand cmd = null;
//add
cmd = new SqlCommand("dbo.fp_ServiceAwards_AddEmailToList", conn);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@emailList_id", SqlDbType.Int)).Value = listId;
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@email_address", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 255, "email_address"));
cmd.Connection = conn;
da.InsertCommand = cmd;
//delete
cmd = new SqlCommand("dbo.fp_ServiceAwards_DeleteEmailFromList", conn);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@emailList_id", SqlDbType.Int)).Value = listId;
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@email_address", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 255, "email_address"));
cmd.Connection = conn;
da.DeleteCommand = cmd;
try
{
da.Update(EmailList);
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
string msg = ex.Message;
}
conn.Close();
conn.Dispose();
return EmailList;
}

SQL Server :: DataAdapter/SQLDataReader Takes Lot Of Time For Executing A Query?

Aug 31, 2010

I have a webpage with 6 drop down lists. User can start with selecting any drop down list first, and then proceed in any order. 1. Assume when the 1st dropdown is selected first, rest 5 drop downs (except 1st) are filtered/updated based on the selected value in the 1st dropdown.2. Assume user selects the 4th dropdown second, rest 5 drop downs (except 4th) will be filtered/updated but the condition would be based on both 1st drop down and 4th drop down. But while filtering the first drop down, only the 4th drop down is used as filter (self-filter will be ignored).

The code works fine but I see a very bad performance hit in time when the user selects the fourth dropdown after selecting three drop downs. I tried using both SQLDataAdapter and SQLDataReader but neither used to solve the issue. The code takes a lot of time on one line in either of the code (which is highlighted below). When I run the query in SQLServer Mgmt Studio, the query completes in a few seconds.
