So I found an example on how to search gridview using filterexpressions on this site (Filter GridView with TextBox using FilterExpression in SqlDataSource in ASP.Net), but now if I try to search with an apostrophe in the textbox, the code fails.
Here's the link to the the article/source - [URL] .....
I need to allow the user to submit queries as follows;
/search/"my search string"
but it's failing because of request validation, as outlined in the following 2 questions:

I'm currently trying to figure out how to disable request validation for the quote character, but i'd like to know the risks before I actually put the site live with this disabled?
I have a textbox and button in my child page it inherits a master page.the textbox should allow to key in only alphabets,comma,dot,space,single quote. And also consecutive comma dot single quote should not be allowed to key in. first and last character should be alphabets.
I have a javascript but it does not check for consecutive comma,dot,single quote...
SQLCommand cmd = new SQLCommand("insert into customers name values ('"+textbox1.Text+"')",conectionstring); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
now when people enter a (') single quote, this doesnt work. how do i avoid this error as this is driving me nuts!! i cannot prevent users from entering single quotes as names like "O'Connor" contain a single quote. parameterized query doesnt seem to be the best solution as it involves loads of coding and will involve huge changes in the code. as its not a fresh app im making... can some modification in the code above so this can be avoided?
I am trying something apart of my boundries, is there any way to disable a single intem in dropdownlist or stop the ddl change event for a single item.
I have a record in gridview contains string with special character like single quotes( ' ) etc..I've a edit button in gridview when i click on edit button of any record of Gridview then corresponding record shown to text box.
But on that time single quote looks like below ....
Before edit button click string in gridview cell, a testimonial or show consists of a person's written or spoken statement
After edit button click string in textbox, a testimonial or show consists of a person's written or spoken statement but when I click update button shows following error :
"A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$tb_comment="...f a person's written or sp...")"
What is the solution so that single quote shows as it original format as it looks in gridview cell when i click on edit button.
In my database, there is a column "summary" with single quot in it.I am fetching this data inside Gridview. Data is shown inside Gridview as:
<summary>" I want single quot to be shown inside Gridview as (')for that I tried to change the code as below: <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" Width="100%" BackColor="White" DataKeyNames="IssueId" AutoGenerateColumns="False" AllowPaging="True" PageSize="8" CssClass="Grid" OnRowDataBound="GridView1_RowDataBound">
I am writing value to a textbox from handler(ashx) file. But the problem is that when the value contains double quote or single quote the textbox only shows the value before that quote and omits the the string after that quote.
I am having difficulty with getting the values from two textboxes to passed the values to one function and determine that one textbox cannot be greater than the other textbox, then i can issue alert message.
If I want to validate that a text box contains an integer greater than or equal to zero. Do I need to use TWO asp:CompareValidator controls: one with a DataTypeCheck operator and one with a GreaterThanEqual operator?
Or is the datatype operator redundant? Can I just use a single validator with the GreaterThanEqual operator (and the type set to Integer)?
how to display result in gridview according to textbox only if textbox2 date value is greater than textbox1 ?
i have two textboxes and gridview ... if i type in Textbox1 : 2-Jan-2011 and in textbox2 : 1-Jan-2011 then in label1 the eroor message display else ..if textbox2 value is greater then textbox1 value then gridview will display records according to textbox1 and textbox2 from database ...
I've been working on this very simple problem for days. I really don't know what's wrong. I have an insert statement that saves the Category Code, Call Number, and other details of a book to an SQL Server Database. The code is found below. The bold font is the one having the problem.
neither the code, nor the stored procedure has an error. The only problem I have is that the Category Code of "CHM" for instance, is reduced to a single character "C". The same thing happens with all other category codes that were inserted. Only the first character is saved. This is odd, because the Call Number, which has the same data type and string length, does not suffer the problem. It is saved with an intact 3 number of characters in the database. I left a breakpoint on the part that captures the content of the string variable CategoryCode, and it clearly contains a total of 3 characters. I also executed the stored procedure directly in the database, and it's also saving 3 characters. However, when ASP.NET connects to the database using that stored procedure, it always save a single character for category code.
On my current form I have it validating a Canadian Postal Address (xxx xxx). The space is optional but if the user does not use a space, then once the validation passes it will insert one. How can I count the first 3 characters of the textbox, insert a space, then add the rest of the characters?
I have few Text Box controls on my webform on which I would like to do some validation. Validation: Controls should not be allowed to accept All special characters EXCEPT ALLOW letters (incl all foreign language characters), numbers, period, comma, question mark, apostrophe, ampersand, soft parentheses & hyphen. Whats the best way to implement this & how?
