I have a form with a number of validators. When I click my Submit button the validators fire and I can see my error messages, however the Form still submits and calls my onclick event. Does anyone know what's causing that? The form shouldn't submit with errors.

Here is my problem. I am given some really abstract ASP.net pages, where I have to make a change. My change involves adding some links and on each link I have a function which is triggered when link is clicked on. This function validates some information in the form and then submits this form. This same form contains mulitple list boxes, all of them has AutoPostBack=true. The problem is when I select an item from listbox the form is submitted as I can print all the form properies on the page(all fields with their names and values) however, when I click on link and call the same forms submit(); method I dont see that happening. none of the form fields are printed out.
Now once I click on listbox and select an item after that as long as that item is selected, I can click on all links and they all call the submit() method of the form and it produces required resutls. I am really baffled as this doesnt seem correct as far as simple html is concerend.

When I hit the enter key, when the input box has focus - the form submits. If I add another input box it doesn't submit. How can I avoid the auto submit when there's only one input box?
i have post detail page (asp.net, umbraco cms), with search box and post replay box.the problem is that when user try to search using the search box, it cause validation error in the post replay box.the search is client side form.the post replay is server side form.you can view it live at:[URL]

1. if not post back, open the log file, build page, send form. 2. get submit back from form, possible post back if errors, possible writes to log file, if no errors definitely writes to log file, and send confirm page. 3. postback from confirm page can either be going back to form or finalizing, and send acknowledge page, then done.
so I need to keep the logfile object between direct postbacks to the form, or posting back to orignal form page after gettting a postback from a confirm page.
this type of file setup works fine, it creates a single log file per day:

when the form submit comes back from the original send/submit, lf from above is 'nothing'
saw the post about 9 ways to maintain state, not sure at all which would be most appropriate to keep the lf object accessible between possible postbacks and submits to the form.
it's a simple question and yet i couldn't figure how this works.I created an aspx page without any master page.Put one text box on the form.then use Internet Explorer 8 and visit that page.typed something and hit ENTER on the keyboard. The form submits (judging by that page being refreshed). I didn't even put any buttons on the form. Just the textbox. What triggers the postback?I further added one < asp:Button > next to the textbox and wired the button to see if it's been clicked.
i repeat the same thing, typed something in the textbox and hit ENTER on the keyboard. The form submitted but the button wasn't click. What's happening? How the postback is triggered if it's not from the button?
This is happening in Mozila Firefox too except that when i added a button on the page, the button will be hit when ENTER on the keyboard is pressed.Can anyone shed some light as to why the button i added didn't respond to the ENTER on the keyboard in IE8?
I am using the SQL Membership provider to handle authentication. On one particular page the main function is the registration of an asset. You have to log in first. No problem. I also have required field validators on this registration form that work nicely. The problem is, if you log in, go to that page, then click the 'logout' button, it seems to submit the form (bypassing all my validation in the process)! I know I can't be the first person to come across this, so I'm guessing I've set something up wrong somewhere.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to implement an ajax form inside of a jquery ui dialog.
I have a view with a button that opens the modal dialog form, makes an ajax call to an action that loads a partial view into the dialog. The partial view consists of a form created via Ajax.begin form. When I post the form I close the modal and update a div on my main page. This all works fine.
The problem is, the next time I open the modal and submit the form the http POST for the form is called twice. The third time I open/submit the form is submitted 3 times and so on...
It seems as if the submit button/form is bound multiple times and I cant figure out how to fix this.

View 1 RepliesI have a simple form on an ASP.NET MVC site that I'm building. This form is submitted, and then I validate that the form fields aren't null, empty, or improperly formatted.
However, when I use ModelState.AddModelError() to indicate validation errors from my controller code, I get an error when my view is re-rendered. In Visual Studio, I get that the following line is highlighted as being the location of the error:
<%=Html.TextBox("Email")%>
The error is the following:
NullReferenceException was unhandled by user code - object reference not set to an instance of an object.
My complete code for that textbox is the following:

Here's how I'm doing that validation in my controller:

jQuery validation is working fine on my machine, when i pushed it to test server it won't it's throwing some errors which is kind of surprising.These are the errors I am getting: $.validator is null or not an object...I've never gotten this error before and it throwing an error when I declared a variable like var isValid.I don't know what to do. I am doing the custom validation methods not in the document.ready(). Does this cause this error? I wonder because all jquery validations are passing and hitting the server side validations.

I have a page that I'm working on that I trying to do the following with:
1. Name a file upload.txt (with codebehind) every time a file is uploaded with a user pressing a submit button.
2. Validate that the file is a .txt file (again with codebehind)
3. Lastly, once the user presses the submit button, that a sql query is run.
I realize that .xml is the proper way to do this but as I'm new to .net, I want to do this with simply inserting the sql query into the codebehind. Here is my codebehind thus far: [Code]....

I have a form for the user to add a Contact's details. Within this form I have fields to enter telephone, mobile, fax numbers etc.
Each have a separate textbox for country code, area code and number. Basically, what I want to do is have validation on these fields so that all or none of the textboxes are filled.
So if the user just adds a number in they are required to enter also the country code and the area code. Or if they don't enter any of the details then the validation will not kick in.
I am using two button click events and some required field validators . If I click the first button the fields in the other button also validates
I actually want to validate based on the button click if a first button is clicked only the fileds which are under button1 should validate not the fields which are in button2.
I tried requiredfieldvalidator.enabled = false
it did not work.
I have been using the RemotePost Class( as per http://www.jigar.net/articles/viewhtmlcontent78.aspx) to post a form to a pay provider, for about 3 months successfully, I made some changes external from the call to this class that sent an email when user presses the button to notify us that the user has selected to go through to the pay provider (similar to PayPal). and suddenly got an exception error MSCROLIB, Thread was being aborted. I have since removed the code and I still get the error it happens when I call

I tried the suggestion on KB article [URL]/ but the control is not past to the Pay Provider I also took the actual response that is written and posted it to a new html file added a submit button and it works. So I am no stuck. The Pay provider claims they have changed nothing, and has tried to help but says they are receiving no input from either our dev site or the live site.I also tried to step into the call but it just throughs the exception
I have a login page inside of a master page. On the left-hand side of the master page in side a navigation menu, there is a search box with a button that is set to be the default submit button via code when text has been entered into the search text box.

ABOVE the search box is a ASP:LoginStatus control that when the user clicks "Login" it takes you to a login.aspx page which contains a ASP:Login control inside the same master page. Without setting the LoginImageUrl and LogoutImageUrl properties of the ASP:LoginStatus, the login/logout appears as text. And the enter button works when a user enters text into the search box (submits info to search service and takes user to search results) OR if the user enters their user name and password into the Login control and hits enter (logs in and redirects user based upon role). Everything works fine. Once I set the loginImageUrl and LogoutImageUrl properties of the ASP:LoginStatus though, the enter key no longer submits anything. It will just postback the page.
I'm guessing that adding an image to those properties cause the loginstatus to take the default behavior of a button. How do I prevent it from breaking the behavior of the enter key on everything else?
Is there any way to add a confirmation dialog to a submit button when the form already has other validation controls and a summary control using "showmessagebox=true"? I tried adding
OnClientClick="return confirm('Are you sure?');" to the submit button, but that seems to block all of the other validation?
