I'm trying to deploy my MVC 2 web project on IIS 5.1, because that's all I have for now to work with. I installed Visual Studio 2010 on the server and can run the web app successfully. When I try to access it via the browser, I get the following error:
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I'm not sure what's going on here. I don't get this error when running the app through Visual Studio. It seems probable that ASP.NET is using a network identity when I access it through a browser, but I'm not incredibly savy at server configurations. The MVC app is set up to get the currently logged in user's credentials from its own database, based on the NTLogin of the person accessing it. I can get this to work, but again only in Visual Studio.
I'd just gotten the MVC application I'm working on to connect to the database when the machine it was on went down. Now, for development purposes, I've installed the database on my local SQL Server 2005 Express installation. I jumped through all the hoops for getting the connection set up. I have:
Opened the Surface Area Configuration and set it to allow Local and remote connections. In the same area, I set the SQL Server Browser to Automatic startup and started it. In SQL Server Mgmt Studio Express, under Security/Logins, I added a user with a Server Role of 'sysadmin' and in User Mapping for the specific database in question I checked 'db_owner'. I also restarted the services and then rebooted the machine when restarting the services didn't work. But it's still giving me the following error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Here's the weird part. I can open SQL Server Mgmt Studio Express and log in with the user I created as described above. Login is successful, and I have complete access to the database. In Server Explorer, I've set up a connection to this exact same database without any problems. I can connect to it and list the tables, get their data, etc., no problem. I can also use the "osql" command to connect to and retrieve data from the same database.
It seems safe to say that the database is definitely there and can be connected to. So, I thought there must be something wrong with my connection string. Since the Server Explorer is connecting to and displaying data from the database, I copied its connection string, which looks a lot like this:
Data Source=myServerSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=myDatabase;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=SwinglineUser;Password=***********
Of course, the Password has been replaced with the actual password (just in case someone thought I might have forgotten that step). So, absolutely everything I try connects to the database without the slightest issue, except for my MVC application. I'm not sure what else to try. Could there be some difference in how to set things up if you're connecting to a local server?
I am trying to populate two text boxes which have calendar extenders with todays date. While the text box of the first control is getting the correct date, the second one is loading up blank! But if i click on the control the ajax date picker that is shown has todays date highlighted in it.
Is there any easy way of setting a failure text within the PasswordRecovery control?
I want to be able to notify users that there was a problem with sending an email. Is there a failure - counterpart to the SuccessTemplate i can use or is there any other template/control within the passwordRecovery control whose value can be set in a handler to the onsendmailerror event?
(Please don't send MSDN links to PasswordRecovery or onsendmailerror, i've read them)
I have a brand new VS 2008 website using 3.5 frame. Default page works but if I add a chart or Gridview I get: Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DataVisualization, Version=18.104.22.168 in the Web.Config file the <add key="ChartImageHandler" value="storage=file;timeout=20;dir=c:TempImageFiles];" />
I am hosting on our own fully managed server - why the DataVisualization assembly is not being found. Also I was able to load the Default.aspx page until I tried to add a GridView to it. Now it too generates the assembly error eventhough I deleted it. If I comment out the DataVisualization assembly the default and test pages load - there are no controls on these pages. Ony text. Very confused. This is my first attempt at using VS 2008, I am using the trial version.
In my web application I have a separate folder for Images and MasterPages and I am using forms authentication. Thus if I will not allow anonymous access for Images folder the login page will not be able to show any image.
guide me if this is what we should be doing or is there any other way to handle the scenario. Also, let me know is there any drawback of this technique.

I have created two asp.net pages, if x times the login fails, I want to call the captcha page (second page) in a popup window. How do I automatically call the second page as a popup window in the first page without using a hyperlink button?
Once I click on 'Engines included' a treeview having all the engine node should show. I am geting the engine collection dynamically from database.
1.What should i use to create enginesIncluded control? 2.How do i show a user control having a treeview on click of 'engine included' control? 3. I also need to show the selected engines on the top row as buttons .
In the aspx page I have the EmptyDataText property set
However when no records are not returned I am not seeing the text "No Results Returned" I am populating the gridview using a SqlDataSource. I am not sure why this is happening but thinking about setting the value programmatically, does this make sense and if yes which gridview event should I do this? has anyone else experienced something like this before?
I'm trying to setup my IIS 7.0 MVC2 site but having problems.I want to use Integrated Security so that the app can obtain the user's credentials. We can then do a look-up of some AD groups to determine what they can do from that point onwards. The problem is - Every time we browse to the application, instead of navigating to our main page immediately, we get a login prompt provided by IE. I've read that we need to make sure that in the browser's Tools->Options->Advanced-> (Securiy-> ENable Windows Intagrated Security) must be checked - which it is on ALL 3 machines where I try this.
The machines AND the server are all in the same domain. My config file states <authentication mode="Windows" /> and I've tried every combination for <identity...> and <authorization...> but to no avail. I can only get the "login" prompt to go away if I enable Anonymous Authentication - but then I can't detect the windows user or their group membership.
I have a strange problem on my website that affects both IE 7 and IE 8 browsers, in that on a form with textboxes, once the cursor is placed in an active / enabled text box, the cursor itself shows up like 2 or 3 pixels to the left of the textbox. Mind you not a show stopper, but it is weird, because when you type text into these, the cursor flashing still appears before the last letter type. I think users will find that a bit confusing if they notice it.
I've verified that this is not happing in Firefox, Safari or Chrome.Any thoughts or ideas how to fix this?I tried padding the text box to move the cursor over, which worked but didn't fix it from showing up before the last letter typed.
I have an silverlight application configured with windows integrated security. I would like to emulate the "Sign in as different user" functionality I would like to give the user, the option to click a button and show the windows authentication login window, so that the user can enter the "User name" and "Password" again using another domain account. (btw i found this question on another site but with no answers, I need the same thing so i copy/pasted a bit)
I have a dropdownlist box and have long text showing in there. I don't want to make the dropdownlist wider to show the whole text because it won't look nice in the web page. I want the functionallity similar to the following link:
If you go to the link and put your mouse over the Secret question 2 dropdownlist it expands.
I am doing a simple secured site using the login control. I would like users to be redirected to their dashboard page once they log in, but after that if they choose to browse I do NOT want them redirected based on their login status. I am using the generic template provided in VWD with the basic login setup in the template including the tabbed ASP menu control - nothing fancy, nothing custom. This is intended to be something very simple and quick. Here is the code I am using for the page load...
So if I do this code WITHOUT the "IsPostBack", logged in users are always redirected to their dashboard and cannot see the hompage. However with that IsPostBack test, the redirect after initial login doesn't work.
I know this is extremely basic and simple, but I am restarting with this stuff after a year away, and I need a nudge.
