DropDownList / HTML Select List Default Selection?
Jul 18, 2010For my ASP.NET page, in the code behind I load various items/options into a DropDownList but I do not set a default by assigning SelectedIndex. I notice for the postback SelectedIndex is set to 0, even if I never set focus to or changed the value in the DropDownList.
If not otherwise specified in the code behind or markup, will a default value of 0 be used for the SelectedIndex in a postback with a DropDownList? If yes, is this part of the HTML standard for selection lists, or is this just the way it is implemented for ASP.NET?

Mar 2, 2011Can any one let me know about the below issue. I have a page which has three labels, say startdate,enddate and username. My issue is if the user doesnot select any of the above three then a message gets displayed as "Please select one search criteria" or if the user doesnot enter the date in correct format then i dispaly "Please enter date in mm/dd/yy" format. But what is happening is first time if the user doesnot select any then "Please select one search criteria" is getting displayed and after this message gets displayed if the user enters wrong format of date then both the messages are displayed.

Mar 25, 2011I had use a combox to let user select staff name and then it will automatically retrive the responsible recommending officer and approving officer to display in other 2 dropdownlist.
my code works fine but when user select staff name each time, the page will reload once to refresh the dropdownlist.
user complaint and don't want the page reload every time, how can i disable the postback? I need to use ajax?

DropDown is bounded by sqlDataSource.
If 04-02-2010 is the last date for today then I want to display 04-02-2010 by default in the dropdown if the page load.
We are updating data on daily basis. So on next day the date will be 05-02-2010 so when the data updated then 05-02-2010 should be shown iby default in the dropdown.

When the page is viewed the dropdownlist show the following;towels, shoes, etc. What I would like is the default item to be nothing. That is when the page is viewed then the drop down list should show something like this "select category". Right now it is starting by showing towels, which is quite irritating, since if I want to see towels I first have to select something else and then go back and select it!

Nov 23, 2010I have a field that is a DropDownList. When in the insert mode I want that field to be blank - It currently is displaying the first record in the table it pulls from. I was expecting to see an initial value setting in the DropDownList properties but do not. For example - suppose I have a field named locations that consist of 4 location (below). In "Insert" mode, location currently displays Dallas. I want it to be set to blank initially and the user select one. What am I mssing?

Jan 11, 2011I have a dropdownlist that is not bound to a datasource, I have hard coded a few items in the list cause the list is always constant and will never grow and there are only 4 entries init. Anyway, after i load the page and make a selection from the dropdownlist and do a postback, the dropdown always returns to the default selection...which tells the users to make a selection.How do I get the dropdown to keep the selected value after the postback? I want to be able to display the selected value all through until another selection is made.

But what is happening is that for all 10 rows the dame value in the dropdownlist is shown. The dataset that is bound to the dropdownlist initially is all that items in the database.i would like the freight for that particualar Orderid to be displayed even if it is lets say item number 5 in the dropdownlist or itemn number 2 .

Oct 11, 2010The intension is to get the all text file names in the drop down present in a particular location. When a user selects any filename from the drop down, it will show the data which is in that particular text file in a GridView.
I've done both the steps and it's almost complete but i stuck on a small issue. Probably because of non-usage of ASP.NET for a long period of time. The problem is, the drop down only selects the default value not other values.Here's my code for DropDown Selected Index Change

Feb 4, 2011im working on Visual Studio 2010, and im making a .net web page. The final idea is to use filters by using dropdownlist. By now i have 3 dropdownlist in cascade. The first filters the second and so on. Then by a grid view i display the selected items, right now i need to add an item that allows me to select all the items in the dropdownlist so in the next filters i like i have selected all. My code filters everything but i cant add this item. I only work in asp .net, not in the code behind wich i think is #C if im not wrong... i have to add a button in each dropdown.
I have read others post and the say that i have to add this in the dropdown>> "appenddatabounditems="True" and this sql sentence
