Web Forms :: Server Side Redirect Script If JavaScript Is Disabled?

Aug 10, 2010

I am in the process of developing a feature rich website with vast use of jQuery. My biggest concern is that I will not be able to reach a percentage of my users because they will not have Java Script enabled or will be using a platform that is not compatible with jquery. I know that I can use a simple java redirect from within the html page itself but this does not seem like a decent resolution to the problem as I would rather the script be run on the server side not from within the html page itself.

Is it possible to configure IIS, Apache, or Linux to run a script that redirects specific browsers, platforms, and settings to another html page before the html request is made? It does not seem sensible for the default index.html page to download initially before a second request is made back to the server for the index1.html page.

I need to redirect certain platforms (IE 6 for example), and browsers with java disabled to a separate website that does not have jQuery functionality.

Here is the site: http://www.intechspecial.com

Web Forms :: Textbox Server Validation If JavaScript Is Disabled?

Jul 30, 2010

I am trying to make ONE thing work. The form currently have TWO Textboxes and ONE CustomValidator(connected to the first textbox). I simply want once I enter less than 4 characters in the first Textbox and tab out to the second Textbox and if Javascript is DISABLED then the server side code should stop me. I can achieve what I am trying to do if I use a button but I need to do it in the fashion I am trying decribing because if I have for example 20 textboxes on the form I want the user to see after each data entry that his validation was successful or not. Here is a sample of my code.

JavaScript - Exposing Server-side State Through Client-side Controls

Feb 11, 2011

I have a list of items on an ASP.net page. That list is selectable in that whenever the user clicks on one, the page does a postback and the server code stores the index or some unique identifier of the picture in a ViewState property indicating that it is currently selected.

I would like to minimize the load on the server and therefore I would like to store the index or unique identifier representing the image in some way on the client side. The best way I can think to do this is to store said information in a hidden field ), however I had two questions about this before I go crazy:

Is this a security risk in any way, shape or form (i.e., exposing implementation details of the page)?
Is there a better/best way to do this that is more industry-standard? Does ASP.net provide a framework to do this that is cleaner than my idea? Seems like this would be a fairly common requirement to me...

JavaScript - Detecting Client-side DOM Changes Server-side - Is It Possible

Mar 7, 2010

I'm working on developing a custom control to select items from a predefined list. This is accomplished via 2 ASP.NET ListBox controls, with a few buttons to trigger the movement of ListItems from one ListBox to the other (lets call these ListBoxes lstSelected and lstDeselected).

This is easy enough to do in ASP.NET or JavaScript independently: I have both working. However, if modifications are made via JavaScript, ASP.NET retains no knowledge of this. Is there any way to register the creation of of options in a select tag without AJAX?

POST Form Server-side - Redirect The User To This Blank Page?

Jun 11, 2010

Currently whenever I need to send a request to a payment-gateway, for example, I redirect my page to another page on my website which has a form with several hidden fields. I then pre-populate the values of these fields server-side, and specify in the body tag something like 'onload="form.submit();"'

However, I'm wondering, rather than redirecting to this page, is there anyway that all this data can be collected and POSTed to the payment-gateway server-side?This will cut out the need to redirect the user to this blank page, and make everything a bit more tidy.

Javascript - User Control With Client + Server Side CustomValidation; Wrong Client Side Validator Is Picked

Nov 23, 2010

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)

<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...

There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...

There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

//
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");

[code]...
Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

Call To PageMethod Blocks Until Complete; Prevents Client Or Server-side Redirect

Jan 22, 2011

I'm calling a static Page method via javascript that takes between 5s and 10 min. I'd like to give my user the choice to either continue waiting for the request to complete or not, and use window.setTimeout() to check back every 30s.

I've tried both location.href = '/newpage.aspx' or firing a button's click handler (which does similar redirect) to redirect the user prior to completion of the page method, to no avail. I can immediately send user to a simple html page, but a redirect to any aspx page involving server-side appears to block. When the page method finally completes, the redirect does succeed.

Is this:

a browser issue? If all modern browsers support at least 2 concurrent requests per domain, why wouldn't this work?

a framework limitation? a desirable design pattern or even possible? I've checked, and after redirecting to an HTML page, the original request continues processing (db updates, no problem).

Web Forms :: Execute Server-side Code From JavaScript?

Jun 11, 2010

Executing Server side code using Javascript. Here is the solution.In the Asp.net forums, I often see the question asked, "Can I call server-side code from the client/JavaScript?" Almost invariably, the responses given are "No, the client cannot access the server," or "You can only use WebMethods or PageMethods." The first response is not entirely correct, and unfortunately, WebMethods and PageMethods are static methods and therefore have no way to directly access the page.This is why I present to you the following "hack". I call it a hack because there really should be some way built into the ASP.NET AJAX Extensions that allow this approach directly. Instead, it relies on using controls in a manner that they aren't necessarily intended in order to obtain the desired result. But this "hack" does have a redeeming quality—it's incredibly easy.The Code:

<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default2.aspx.vb" Inherits="Default2" %>

Javascript - How Much Client-side Programming Is Needed When Doing Server-side Programming

Mar 16, 2011

but I am rather confused about what to invest in. I heard that server-side code translates into client-side code. So, if you have an .aspx file, it will be converted to HTML/CSS/JavaScript. I have experience with the latter three technologies put into a rather dull text file and rendered by a web browser. My question is how much HTML/CSS/Javascript coding would I have to do when server-side programming? In other words, can someone using ASP.NET program purely on the server side and not bother to write for the client side? Of course, I don't care about server-side being translated into client-side, but I am wondering if client-side programming needs to be done explicitly and to what degree.
