Web Forms :: Setting Visible Attribute On PlaceHolder Control Triggers?
Feb 22, 2011
I have a web form with an Asp.net PlaceHolder control. By default the control is set to visible false and will be displayed through the code behind based on several criteria. In general this PlaceHolder control wraps several other Asp.net controls. Now a new requirement ask that the controls within the PlaceHolder control be visible at all times an no longer hidden. So in the Aspx code I changed the laceHolder attribute and set it to visible. Now all kinds of Java Script validation errors are occuring and it is a horrible spahgetti code nightmare. Is their a way to set the visible attribute on the control and not have it trigger the validation?

I have a custom control that I declare like:
<hello:someControl id="asdf" />
Now I need to access a config setting in the web.config's appsetting and give access to it to the control.
I want to pass this value using the attribute.
How can I do this?

Is there a benefit from putting a Tabcontainer control on a master page and setting up each of the tabPanels.ContentTemplates to be a content placeholder rather than putting everything into a regular .aspx page?

I'm having some problems. I am trying to bind the visible attribute of a button, to a boolean in my code-behind, and it is not working as intended.
When i put a breakpoint on the boolean, i can see it is ONLY visited, when it is true. In the cases where it is false, it is never questioned, and it apparently defaults to true (dunno why).
In essence, i have a querystring called "dep". If it is not the same as the department the user is in (retrieved from AD), the boolean will return false.
So, i assume i am doing something wrong here. Here's my code.

I created a simple Master Page in Visual Studio 2008:
<%@
Master
Language="VB"
CodeFile="MasterPage.master.vb"
Inherits="MasterPage" %>
<!DOCTYPE
html
PUBLIC
"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
and got green underlined 'Master' with two warning messages: 1.Validation (ASP.NET): This attribute name must be followed byan equal (=) sign and a value. If the value is in quotation marks, the quotation marks must match. 2. Validation (ASP.NET): Attribute 'Master' is not a valid attribute of element 'Control'.How I can get rid of the messages?

I have a panel that contains several controls.
On the other hand i have a MultiView that contains Several view that in turn itself contains several controls .
In multiview we have to set ActiveViewIndex for the view which we want to see.
That same thing can be done through Panel containing another seleral panel's and setting its Visible property to True/False accordingly.
Is seems Multiview is just using this Visible property internally to render controls .Since other views (whose Index is not set to be active Index) are processed on the server for its Whole life cycle(I am confused here..whether i am right or not) .Same thing perhaps happen when we use a Panel insteed and use Visible=True/False. So, what is the difference between MultiView and Panel taking this scenario ?

I've GridView with Template field as
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Review">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:ImageButton ID="imgBtnReview" ImageUrl="~/images/agt_reload.png" runat="server" Visible="false" CommandName="Review" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("id")%>' />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
Gridview is bound to a table. If a row in table has price greater than zero then the above mentioned Imagebutton should br visible in that row only.
Is it possible to do so.

I have an update panel which has 2 set of controls each in their own separate panels. We can select either panel by a checkbox list and they become visible. Now I am trying to set a value by javascript in the panel that becomes visible on my checkbox click but the problem is that I cant access the controls through javascript as they are not rendered on page as visibility is false.
I cant find the controls inside the page source even though they are visible on page so javascript cannot access them. Is there any way other than doing a postback and setting them visible to access them via javascript?

Is it possible to download a file and set its Date Modified attribute by means of Ajax? I tried to use server-side code below but couldn't set Date Modified although I explicitly used "Last-Modified" Response header:
try{
Response.Clear();
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="+l_attchmntFileSpec);
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
Response.AppendHeader("Last-Modified", "Tue, 15 Nov 2010 12:45:26 GMT");
Response.BinaryWrite(l_attchmntToDownload);
Response.End();
}
catch (Exception Ex)
{ ...
}
Note: The file in question is stored in my database. It is represented by byte array l_attchmntToDownload.

I am creating dynamic controls... i.e. ddl
DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList();
ddl.DataSource = data;
ddl.ID = id;
ddl.DataValueField = "Key";
ddl.DataTextField = "Value";
ddl.DataBind();
PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(ddl);
Loading the controls to the placeholder.
Selecting a value and clicking the button, doing postback, I want to capture the value selected in the ddl. I was using "FindControl method" but it is not working, I guess because the controls are created dynamically and will not show due to stateless HTTP.
How else can I capture the values? Is there away?

I am having problems finding my UserControls inside the Controls collection of a Placeholder control.
I have a ListView control with a PlaceHolder control in its ItemTemplate. OnItemdataBound for the ListView control I am adding a custom UserControl to the Controls collection of the Placeholder control. It all renders fine. My problem is when I try to find my user controls in the Placeholder. I just can't get it back. My code is below.
My objective here is to get to the input controls within my UserControl and call the save method of this.
PlaceHolder intakeBenefitHolder = null;
protected void lvIntakeBenefits_ItemDataBound(object sender, ListViewItemEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Item.ItemType == ListViewItemType.DataItem)
{
using (ListViewDataItem item = (ListViewDataItem)e.Item)
