View 2 RepliesHere's a short explanation of my asp.net project.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.
my main intention is that, the exsisting table of sql server database(.dbo) with 1000's of records, that should be import to a new access database table(.mdb).for example if we want to had a new table in db2, of exsisting table in db1 with some conditions by using "select * into New_Tabel from (select * from Exsisting_Table where <Condition>) as objectName". Here the new table is created and records inserted in one execution in db2. The same work should be done for access(sqlserver db --> Access db). Here the new access database table with given name (as string_sysdate) must be created dynamically by clicking a button (multiples time creating new table). Is there any query or c# code for sql server database to access database.

View 1 RepliesI have a set of values in a listbox on an ASP webform. I can select items, and in code, if the user selects some row from a different grid, the listbox shows the correct value. The user can also select a different value. All of this appears to work as I would expect. However, that's as far as it goes. At first, the SelectedIndexChanged event wasn't firing. I determined that was because I hadn't hooked up the event handler, which I did with this:
Code:
asp:ListBox ID="AgencyListBox" runat="server" OnSelectedIndexChanged="AgencyListBox_SelectedIndexChanged" EnableViewState = "true">
(the EnableViewState wasn't part of that solution. I added it later)
Now, the SelectedIndexChanged event fires, though it doesn't fire when the user selects something, it changes later, possibly in response to an AutoPostBack, since I read that will trigger the SelectedIndexChanged event. That's fine with me, either time will work ok. However, the SelectedIndex itself is always -1, as if nothing was ever selected. In fact, though I can see visually that something is selected, I have yet to figure out what that was, or how to access the index, the text, or anything even the fact that something was selected.
I single table in SQL Server having 50 columns col_1 to col_50 having type varchar(MAX)..The table is having nearly 2 crore data into it which is unstructured i.e. just put in by bulk copy. I have to perform search operation on this table. How to index the table so as to make the search fast? or any other way to make the search fast.
View 2 RepliesOn one of our tables, a default clustered index is defined on the primary key by sql server 2005. The table also contains forign key columns and has got over 2 million rows. There are very frequent INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE functions on this table. Recently some of the SELECT queries which primary operate on the forign keys have become very slow (resulting in application timeout). To fix the problem, I defined an index on one of the primary keys which gave me very quick results. I don't know much about indexes.
1. Since I defined a new index (on the forign key) in addition to the existing default index, what kind of index (clustered or non-clustered) have I defined?
2. What performance impact does it have on the rest of the system? Is it going to break something else?
3. I read about fill factor. What is this and how does it effect the system?
4. Is the new index physically going to make any changes?
5. In case I delete this index later on, will the database return to the existing state or it will be a different state from now?
Right now I'm using the following code in my markup:
<asp:HiddenField ID="TheName" runat="server" Value=<%#Eval("SpeakerName")%> />
I would like to use:
<asp:HiddenField ID="TheName" runat="server" Value=<%#Eval(0)%> />
I would like to be able to call it by index instead of explicitly by "SpeakerName". Is there a way to do this in ASP.NET 4.0?

Can a query output made in MS ACCESS be accessed as a database in Visual Studio 2008?
I have a Parent and Child Table in MS Access with a one-to-many relationship. I created a query in Access that would produce a result table and I want the contents of this Query to be displayed in a Data Grid in Visual Studio 2008.

I have this sqldatasource:

When I call select in codebehind, after 30sec it throws timeout expired SqlException:
[Code]....
again , this select took up to 3 sec to be executed. In application I tried to use SqlConnection and SqlTableAdapter instead of SqlDataSource, with the same query, and again it took up to 3 sec.
If I choose tighter interval (e.g '2011-01-20 00:00:00' - '2011-01-21 00:00:00') , there is no timeout exception, so I know that sqldatasource select is executed correctly. So the conclusion is that sql server is not using index while executing query sent from sqldatasource, but is using index whenever else. I have also checked the index statistics on sql server and it is like that. In profiler i can see slight difference between this two cases. As for SqlDataSource, in events table, in first column "EventClass" after 30 sec, there is this: "RPC:Completed" and application throws timeout. If i use SqlConnection and SqlTableAdapter then at the same place there is this: "SQL:BatchStarting" and "SQL:BatchCompleted" and application does not throws timeout(the index has been used).
what is so special on SqlDataSource connection, that Sql Server performs differently compared to other types of connections?

I need to populate a listbox with the contents of a column in every row of a table. But, the table and its columns are only known at runtime. Once a table is selected by the user, I will know the name and type of the column, whose contents I need to display in a listbox. But, how do you access all rows of a table sequentially so that the contents of the column in each row can be added to the listbox?
View 12 RepliesI have an asp table with 15 rows and 12 columns, each cell as an ID and the cell names are like Cell1, Cell2, Cell3, etc.
I need to change the background color of the cell but the name of the cell comes from a string.
