Visual Studio :: Visual Studio 2008 Professional SP1 Cannot Find Database Tools?

Aug 13, 2009

To fix the problem, go to Tools → Options... → Database Tools → Data Connections and change the SQL Server Instance Name from whatever it was (probably a SQL Server 2005 instance) to your SQL Server 2008 instance, hit OK and you should be fine!

But I cannot find Database tools unders Options.

The only things I have if I go to Tools > Options is:

General, Fonts and Colors, Format, Validation, Css, & Css Styling.

Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to enable thes options somewhere? I am running Visual Studio 2008 Pro SP1 not the express edition.

Below is a link to the blog I was reading. I am trying to fix an issue with an ASPNETDB that I opened in SQL Server 2008 and can no longer use in Visual Studio

Cannot Connect To Any Database With Visual Studio 2008

Sep 10, 2009

I'm trying to do something very basic within Visual Studio 2008....connect to ANY database!

I've tried using Server Explorer, SqlDataSource, etc with different databases.

I've already reinstalled everything short of formatting my system.

I have not been able to find any info about the error I'm getting (which is complete pyschobabble to me), so I'm at a loss.

I'm not writing any code. I'm just using the wizards within Visual Studio.

For example, I'll open up a new default.aspx and drag a SqlDataSource onto the page.

I click on Configure Data Source. It then ask me to create a new connection. I fill all that out. I click Test Connection, everything's ok.

As soon as I click the ok button to add the connection, I get an error...so the connection is never created.

Here is the error I get every time I try to connect to any database.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Forms Data Controls :: Save Image Path Into Database / Retrieve Image Path By Particular Image ID

Dec 19, 2007

Currently, I have a file upload control in my aspx page to allow user to upload images.

When the user clicks the SAVE button, the image will be saved in a particular folder named 'PMap' that located within the website.

What I am trying to do here is to direct all uploaded images into a common image folder (in this case 'PMap') and then, retrieve the images and displayed it through a Gridview according to its respective image id. I have managed to store all uploaded images into a common image folder, PMap.

However, I hope advice can be given on my following problems...

My problems are:

1) How do I save the physical path of the image in that particular folder into the database under a column named ImgPath, so that I can 'call' and retrieve the image from the folder using ImgPath?

2) How do I ensure that when I retrieve the image from the folder, it's the image of that particular Image ID?

This is my current VB codings:

How To Access To SQL Server Express Database To A Specific User With Visual Studio 2008 Tools

Mar 18, 2011

I'm trying to access an SQL Server Express database out of an ASP.NET HTTP request handler. The handler is run under ASPNET account and uses "integrated security" in the SQL connection string and so I get an error message saying that login for ASPNET account failed and so I can't access the database. This seems to be a very common problem and most answers say "grant access to you database to user ASPNET".

I only have Visual Studio 2008 and I can't find how to change access permisssions for a database. Specifically I use Tools->Server Explorer and I can see all the tables in the database but can't find how to change access permissions. How do I change access permissions to my database using tools shipped within Visual Studio 2008?

DataSource Controls :: Custom Database Created In Visual Studio 2008 Not Showing Up In .NET SQL Server Setup Wizard?

Apr 11, 2010

I created and populated a database inside Visual Studio 2008 instead of using Management Studio.I need to run the script to create the schema for users and roles. The database does not show up in ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard or in Management StudioThe only databases that do show up are master, model, msdb, and tempdb

Is there anything I can do to fix this or would it be easier for me to just create a new database starting in Management Studio and then connect to it from within Visual Studio?

Modules :: Design HttpHandler That Retrieve An Image From Database - Restrict The Option To Control The Image ?

Apr 8, 2009

I design HttpHandler that retrieve an image from database. The code that calls the httphandler is something like that:
<img alt="httpHandler"
This code can be called from any html page.

The problem with this approach is that the width and height can be controlled through the img element.

I need to restrict the option to control the image that httphandler retrieves, so the image will keep on real dimensions. What are my options? I know the the same can be done with javascript....do I need it? and how to to do such?

Visual Studio :: Difference Between VWD 2008 And Visual Studio 2008 Don't Understand?

Oct 11, 2009

I've worked with VWD for about 3 weeks night and day. I kept running into some odd things, and I kept thinking it was because it was an express product. So I ordered Visual Studio 2008 Standard. Let me tell you, VS 2008 fixed some things...but introduced its own set of odd things! But here is my question:

In VWD 2008 Express, in a query, you can put a sql statement with a "?" in it and format a query as (CategoryID = ?), and it works just fine. I installed VS 2008 Standard last night, and I wasted about 6 hours on this simple thing. It turns out, that in VS 2008, the correct format is (CategoryID = ?CateroryID).

Also, in VWD, when you put a "?" in a query, and on the wizard, it lets you add the parameter and bind it to, say a drop down list. On VS 2008, the wizard no longer does this. And VS forces the use of @param1, which will wreck havoc with a MySQL statement and even cause VS 2008 to crash if you aren't careful.
I thought VWD 2008 was Visual Studio 2008 Lite, but they were both ASP.net. Why does a query work in VWD 2008 express, that takes me hours to figure out the exact same query in VS 2008??? That's very frustrating to me.

Visual Studio :: Can Visual Studio 2008 Be All In One Tool To Integrate Source Code Continuously

Jan 20, 2010

can Visual Studio 2008 be All-In-One tool to integrate source code continuously from team members, build, unit test?

Having used Visual Studio Team Edition 2005, unit testing each method within VS itself. I strongly believe that it is feasible to add-on tools. Example ankhsvn tool to use SVN from Visual studio [URL]

In my investigating i have come across number of tools(shown below) to use with Visual Studio 2008 professional

Development tool:- Visual Studio 2008 professional using Subversion as source control tool. Continuous Integration:- Hudson or Cruise control Build tool:- NAnt Testing:- NUnit, Selinium As Visual Studio 2008 can be used for unit testing I think NUnit is out of consideration.

In the same way i would like to have any other tools/add-ons to Visual studio to implement continuous integration, building and unit testing. This process should be automated such a way source code between team members is continuously integrated, built and unit testing is done as configured.

Objective is to use few number of tools as add-on to Visual Studio or achieve most from Visual studio itself (example unit testing). Visual Studio should be all in one tool.

I am aware that Team Foundation Server best suits my requirement, but it is out of scope due to its cost.
