I have been looking for a answer but could not find one that I could understand (I am not a pro, far from this...). I have a menu and a sitemapdatasoure, working fine by now. I would like to show the menu options based on the role of each user. I know it can be done with SQL Server, but I don't have it, I use MySQL.
View 2 Repliesi have this situation: i have to build a menu with datasource from the db, because i have to filter them among the user that is loged in. i have tried building a menu using repeater, and all this works fine till i realized that i wanted the menu with more than two levels. i have also tried with treeview, but i really don't want this solution (problem with the style and the treeview doesn't have a pretty view).

In My code behind I want to provide the SiteMapProvider instead of having it hard coded from the aspx page. What would the code look like to replace in thie case 'SpanishSiteMap' and have that come from code behind in c#? I thought something like this but i know this is way off. hopefully someone has a one liner code that will give provide some sleep. my menu control is bound to a sitemap. I would like to be able to customize the second level of the menu (the dynamic level), so that I can insert an item image, link and text. An example is the top menu in [URL]
Is it possible to achieve using asp.net menu and sitemap ? maybe using the dynamic item template of the menu ?

how to programmatically create an ASP.NET Menu Control populated using LINQ to SQL (with an unknown number of levels) and couldn't find one anywhere. It took me a while to figure out the logistics of it so I thought I would post my final solution so that you don't have to spend time figuring this out for yourself. Note that I am a self taught developer so I am potentially breaking any number standards coding protocols.
In this example I am working with an ASP.NET project named Virtual. Non-Standard NameSpaces are Virtual.(tools, components) etc...

somewhere on the net I found very useful example of programatically databainding the treeview control (code blow). I use this treeview as menu bar in my masterpage. It works fine but with one exception: when I click the node of this treeview I'm redirected to the correct page but after page is reloaded my treeview is collapsed and node I chose just before is not highlighted. What to do to correct this problem. Do you know better examples of programatically databainding of the treeview control? Maybe it will be better to bind data to the sitemapdatasource and next to the treeview. Then I shouldn't have to worried about this?

I have a master page that contains the main site navigation and a child master page that contains a secondary menu. I want to set the starting node on the secondary menu based on the selection on the main menu.
I can get the code to work when the menus are on the same page, but when I separate them into their respective master pages, I get an error saying "The name 'SiteMapDataSource2' does not exist in the current context".
I have tried playing around with the FindControl() method, but either it won't work or I'm not getting the syntax right. Most of the information I find is for a child page referencing the master page, but not the other way around.
How can I access the SiteMapDataSource2 control from the master page? If possible, can you include the exact syntax as I am still trying to get the hang of this.

I have a custom menu, which leverages the standard asp.net sitemap. It works well but some of my pages are dynamically generated by URL rewriter, so they don't sit in the sitemap XML file. At the moment I rolled a custom solution which shows/hides menu items via CSS class and a programmatic check of the role that the user is in. It works ok until I visit a dynamic page that doesn't exist in the sitemap file. I've tried the "roles" attribute in the sitemap file with security trimming but it isn't working because I have a custom menu.
Is there a way I could leverage the roles attribute in the sitemap file to show/hide menu items for my custom control below, even when some pages are not in the sitemap? My menu control is below...

I have developed a dynamic menu with asp.net, everything is believed correctly. The problem that I have is that there are items of the menu that have the empty route, that is to say NavigateUrl = "", and however the cursor that he/she takes the mouse when it passes above the links it is hand, and I want that, if he/she doesn't have route to which to go takes cursor=text.
I have proven putting it in the leaf of styles, putting it for code, but anything, when I pass the mouse above the text that puts in the menu it puts me the cursor with hand. I believe that the problem is that he/she is taking the style of the hyperlink, but this style I don't want to change.

View 1 RepliesWe have to develop an application which has a Vertical left pane menu control which displays all the web pages (A,B,C say). Now if user is in page A and filled some data and clicks on menu control to go to page B, all the data in page A needs to be saved. Also if all the required field in page A are not filled and user navigated to page B, there will be one ! sign after the menu so that user can understand that there some some more fields need to be filled up.
We are planning to place the menu control in the Mater page. Please give me some direction to do this. My question is:
1. If user change menu (In Master Page), how should we save data?
2. How should we display the ! in the menu control?
I am doing a rework on one of my sites and I am attempting to use the asp:menu control.
I am using images in the static and dynamic menus. Hard coded at this point.
On my local machine it works fine but when I upload to the server, the image on the dynamci menus do not appear.
Instead I just get white space where the images should be.
