Web Forms :: How To Alter The Web Config To Redirect To An Errors Page

Oct 15, 2010

I know how to alter the web config to redirect to an errors page but what I need to do is have the actual offending error message print to that page. This is a special request for testing reasons, I realize the whole point of a custom error page is to provide a user friendly message when an error occurs but for testing we want to show the user the message so they can copy and paste it into a ticketing system we are using for beta testing feedback.

Should I use the global.asax instead? I am pretty new to vb.net and am not sure how to get the actual error message to display on my custom error page.

Visual Studio :: Errors In Root Machine.config And Web.config After 2010 Installation

Jan 19, 2011

I just installed VS2010 and opened the root machine.config and web.config files for review and I found some errors. In machine.config, the following line has errors in both entries for <Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior>. When I hover the cursor over them I get a tooltip text which displays: "The element 'endpointBehaviors' has invalid child element 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'. The same problem happens for the second appereance in tag <serviceBehaviors>.

[Code]....

In web.config, there is a tag called <protocols> that has an error with a tooltip text that says "The element 'system.web' has invalid child element 'protocols'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'.

How To Handle 403.9 HTTP Errors In The Web.config File

Nov 23, 2010

Do anyone of you know how to handle XXX.X IIS HTTP errors in a web.config file? I tried doing the following:

<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="error.aspx">
<error statusCode="403" redirect="error403.aspx" />
<!--NOTE: The following does not work-->
<error statusCode="403.9" redirect="error403.9.aspx" />
<!--ENDNOTE-->
<error statusCode="404" redirect="error404.aspx" />
</customErrors>

But obviously that didn't worked, because the web.config file expects an integer as the statusCode value.

Configuration :: Custom Errors For 404 Pages Not Working In Web.config?

Feb 2, 2010

For some reason the Custom Errors for 404 pages are not working on my production server, but they work fine on development. Instead of going to the custom 404.aspx page, it goes to the ugly IIS 404 page.

Here is my Custom Errors protion of my web.config:

[Code]....

I changed the defaultRedirect to also go to my 404.aspx page just to make sure I was catching everything, but still it does't work. I know I could change the IIS 404 error to also point to my 404.aspx page, but that will not work for me because I need to capture the "aspxerrorpath" in the querystring for .net 404 errors. The IIS method will not give me that.

I am just hoping it is a server configuration I missed somewhere, but everything on production looks the same as on development.

Redirect - Custom Errors With Mode=remoteOnly And Global.asax Handling Exceptions?

Jul 19, 2010

I have custom errors set in the web config file as follows:

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="GenericError.aspx" />

Fine and dandy... I like that mode="RemoteOnly" facilitates development...

For unhandled exceptions, I have in global.asax:

Sub Application_Error(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Response.Redirect("GenericError.aspx")
End Sub

However, unhandled exceptions are going to the generic error page instead of the informative yellow screen of death preferred by developers. I can comment out the redirect in global.asax, but then I need to remember to change it for the production environment. Is there a way I can check in Application_Error whether I am remote or not to determine whether to redirect?

Forms Data Controls :: Dynamically Alter The Page Size In A Paged Gridview Based On Data In A Particular Column?

Dec 14, 2010

I've already searched to no avail for an answer to this question:is it possible to dynamically alter the page size in a paged gridview based on data in a particular column?In other words,let's say I get data from a table that lists students enrolled in a particular course.If there are 10 students in Course "A," then I want page 1 in my gridview to show 10 records.

If there are 15 students in Course "B," then I want page 2 in my gridview to show those 15 records,and so on.I imagine that this could probably be done with a master-detail kind of set up,but let's say for the sake of argument that I don't want to go that route.

Configuration :: Redirect Non Existing Urls Using Web.config

Sep 15, 2010

We are using BlogEngine.net for our company blog and we'd like to start using feedburner. Since we already have an considerable amount of subscribers to our feed, we want to maintain the same url. The url of our feed would be: ~/blog/syndication.axd. What I'd like to do, is to maintain the URL, but redirect requests to this url to the feedburner URL. So, I started to use the urlMappings section in the web.config for that:

<urlMappings>
<add url="~/blog/syndication.axd" mappedUrl="[URL]" />
<urlMappings>

But for one reason or the other, this does not seem to work and I am redirected to the root of my web site.

Web Forms :: Sorting And Understanding Web Page Errors?

Sep 14, 2010

your posts and answers are very informative and helpful in my own devolopment and understanding the nature of the beast. Im running vs2010 on a 64bit windows 7 devolopment machine. For days I have been trying to get a Microsoft Reportview to render in a popup. ( i have done this in vs2008 ). I have tried applying the same code from vs2008 to Vs2010, but am comming up with page erros. When loading the default.aspx ( testpage ) I get 'Done but with errors'. If I click on button 1 which shows the popup, I get the report viewer, but it just sits there 'loading'. From advice givenm on this forum, I have used the IE view source code to try and loacate the problem... but to be honest, I dont understand why the page complies ok, but i get errors when it is run, or indeed how to rectify the problem. I have highlighted the two errors.Ie view source code:

Configuration :: Redirect To The Default Login URL As Defined In The Web.config File

Jul 28, 2010

I have what I think is a very common scenario but I've searched quite some time now and can't seem to find the answer! I have a standard web app that has a web.config in the root directory. I have some account management pages in a subdirectory called Accounts. Any timeouts at the root level work fine - the user is redirected to Default.aspx as indicated in my Forms authentication. My problem is when the users are in the Accounts (or any) subdirectory and they go off for coffee and the app times out. On the next click, they get an error saying "Accounts/Default.aspx" cannot be found. And Default.aspx is not there as it sits at the root level. It's trying to redirect them to the default login URL as defined in the web.config file but that doesn't work when the user is sitting in a subdirectory. I don't want to put a default page in this any every sub directory. I have tried putting a web.config file in the subdirectory but it throws the error about machine to application level/IIS.

The problem I have: if the errors happen at the top portion of the page when Submit buttons are clicked, the forms do not scroll to the top automatically, the users have to scroll up to see the ValidatorCalloutExtender.
