Web Forms :: Create User Control Class That Extend Panel?

Aug 31, 2010

I'm trying to create a user control class that extends Panel. Essentially, what I want to do is to have a panel that fires off an event whenever it's clicked upon.

So, I create something like this:

[Code]....

And then, in the ClickPanel.ascx.cs file:

[Code]....

I'm not exactly sure whether this would work as I haven't had the opportunity to test it yet.

The problem is that I can't have a class inherit from Panel. Creating a user control class requires that my class extend User Control - at least that's what the error messages have been saying up until now. The problem is that if I do extend it from the base class of UserControl then I lose all the functionality of the Panel itself and the entire thing is rendered pointless.

Web Forms :: Extend TextBox Control To Include A BaseValidator Control?

Mar 31, 2010

I have an implementation of a textbox which inherits from the TextBox control. It currently has some features built in to validate text by some JavaScript that is injected when the control is created. I want to modify this so that the control uses the ASP.NET validation controls (eg. RequiredFieldValidator) instead. Is this possible? Is there a place in the lifecycle of the control where I can programmatically create a BaseValidator control and add it to the form? I want to implement this in my textbox control, rather than each specific page that the textbox is on.

C# - How To Extend The User.Identity Property

Jul 30, 2010

I'm not talking about asp.net membership.

For each logged user I want to cache some properties like status or the number of friend requests, from the db.

I can create custom class which would do it but I thought it will be better to extend the existing User.Identity property. Something like this:

Label1.Text = User.Identity.Status;

C# - Extend AuthorizeAttribute And Check The User's Roles?

Feb 25, 2011

I am busy writing my own custom attribute for my action method called MyAuthorizeAttribute, I am still busy writing the code, here is my partial code:

[AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method, AllowMultiple = false)]
public class MyAuthorizeAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute
{
public new Role Roles;
public override void OnAuthorization(AuthorizationContext filterContext)
{
base.OnAuthorization(filterContext);
if (Roles != 0) // Did it this way to see what the value of Roles was
return;
// Here I am going to get a list of user roles
// I'm doing my own database calls
filterContext.Result = new HttpUnauthorizedResult();
}
}

Here is my Role enum:

public enum Role
{
Administrator = 1,
SuperAdministrator = 2
}

My action method:

[MyAuthorize(Roles = Role.Administrator|Role.SuperAdministrator)]
public ActionResult Create()
{
return View();
}

The reason why I did not use Roles = "Administrator,SuperAdministrator" was because the roles are hard-coded. I don't want to have a 100 places to change if the role name changes.

Given my method, when it gets to if (Roles != 0) then Roles total value is 3, how would I check to see if these 2 roles is in the list of user roles for a specific user?

Am I doing it correct here? If not how would I otherwise implement this? It doesn't have to be the way that I did it in.

C# - Extend Control (ASCX) And Access Base Markup File From Subclass Code?

Jan 29, 2010

I'm building form validation controls for our C# ASP application. The bulk of the work is handled by a BaseValidator control (subclassing System.Web.UI.UserControl), which also has the markup for the validation output. This is then extended by subcontrols like PasswordValidator, that provides the Validate method and any extra fields needed by that validator control.

(The end goal is to have controls like <uc1:PasswordValidator ControlId="txtPassword" /> which we can plop into any form with minimum duplication.)

However, PasswordValidator.ascx.cs cannot access the form elements defined in BaseValidator.ascx; the only way I've found to do so is to duplicate the markup in each subcontrol's *.ascx file. How can I extend BaseValidator.ascx.cs and access BaseValidator.ascx's markup in the subclass?

Server Controls In User Control Are Null When User Control Serves As A Base User Control ?

Jun 4, 2010

I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.

If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically.What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?

Web Forms :: Access User Control Properties In Another User Control

Nov 9, 2010

I want to use a couple of instances of the same control on a page. The user control is intended to display a list of records in a repeater. The aim is that the second control will show a list excluding the IDs in the first control The control has a number of public properties, including IDsInThisList, and IDstoExclude. The query will exclude the IDs in the second property.

What I would like to do is get the record IDs from the first instance of the control (IDsInThisList), and pass them to the second contro as the IDsToExclude.

I have a test page where I am setting the properties of the controls in code. As you might guess, it's not working! The first control displays the top 3 items, as desired, but the second display the records 1-7, rather than records 4-10 because it is not receiving the IDstoExclude from the first control When I response write the IDstoExclude from the first control in my testpage, the string is empty. (if I do it from within the control, it shows the IDs)

How can I get the controls to fire in order and pass values to each other?

Screen grab of test page + uc and test page code attached

[Code]....
