I'm tring to implement what Steve Souders discusses [URL] about forcing gzip compression
I've got a module that's running this:
[code]....
CompressionUtils.GzipSupported just checks for the 'accepts-encoding' header while CompressionUtils.GzipSupportedExplicitly and CompressionUtils.GzipNotSupportedExplicitly check for the cookie saying whether the browser really can read gzip
But when I load a page in Firefox I get this error:
Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
and in Fiddler it shows that the content-encoding header has been added but the content hasn't been compressed
I have a compression module built based on several examples on the web. Initially, I hooked into the BeginRequest event of the application context to conditionally compress certain file types. This seems to have worked fine for JS and HTML, but CSS was giving me trouble. Here are the specific steps I could take to reproduce the problem consistently.
I'm getting around 50% compression using System.IO.Compression and I think it could/should be getting around 75% by setting the compression level higher. Is there a way to improve the compression level or should I be looking for a different solution?

i am working on an ecommerce application, user will be uploading several images of a product, instead of stripping the size (i.e the KB or MB size) after uploading it on the server, i want to strip the size of image before uploading it to the server ( bringing the size from any thing over 30KB down to 30KB) i.e on the client machine itself and then upload it to the server. i understand that this requires a download on the client machine which makes me ask the following questions :
a. can i use a java control in dotnet since java control can be used on all OSes b. is there any dotnet control that might be userfriendly to all OSes
iam having images in page .when i mouseover on any of the image, the image size should be zoom and display in the center of the asp.net page in the same window
How can I display photogarphs in an image control so that they are all the same size for an online catalogue without distorting the actual image.
I have taken the photos with a digital camera, loaded them in to Photoshop, cropped the image and finally resized the images to an acceptable size (while constraning proportions to avoid image distorsion).
The problem is that the images all have different height dimensions as while resizing i was able to choose the width that I wanted but as I had to constrain proportions to avoid distorsion, it caused the heights of the images to differ.
On my web form I have an image control that is set to the same width as the images but as the heights of the images differ from one and other, it is impossible for me to set a fixed height that will prevent some of the images being distorted when displayed in the image control.
I've created an image for my imageButton, but when applied, it renders using a different size to the original, making it display smaller than the original??

And mostly all images (around 64) thumbnails having file size more than 40 KB. Due to which thumbnails taking lot of time to get display.
