Web Forms :: Inserting Text In A Textbox Before Calling Regexvalidator?
Jan 7, 2011
My form has a RegularExpressionValidator that validates user input in a textbox, like so:
[Code]....
Suppose that the regular expression I want to validate is the standard U.S. Social Security Number which is the following: ^d{3}-d{2}-d{4}$
Now, in order for user input to be valid, it MUST have the two dashes. Therefore, 123-45-6789] would be valid, but 123456789 would not. Well, if the user types in a nine-digit number (in other words, if the following regular expression is valid: ^d{9}$ ), then it's pretty obvious that this is a valid SSN and I want to have dashes get automatically inserted into the textbox before validation of the main regular expression begins. I don't want the user thinking "Hmmm... I don't know if I need the dashes or not." Just put them there if the user didn't type them in, then try to validate. How do I do this?
I have a textbox in aspx page in which the user enters text. Now when user clicks on a button called "Sin" the textbox should show "Sin[]" and the cursor has to be placed in between brackets.Like as follows "Sin[<cursor here>]" Now when the user clicks on some other button say "Cos" the textbox text should show "Sin[Cos[]]" and the cursor has be placed between the brackets of Cos as follows: "Sin[Cos[<cursor here>]]".
I have a two-character field for US State. I add a RegularExpressionValidator control to validate the input using
ValidationExpression="[a-zA-Z]{2}"which works to validate the content when something's entered, but it doesn't catch if someone just leaves the textbox blank.
Is there any way to validate within the same regex to catch an empty textbox?
I have placed a list box and a text box with Selected Index Changed and Text Changed event repectively in an aspx page. Now If I write somthing in text box and then with out clicking elsewhere select a value in list box, then first Text Changed event of text box is called then selected Index Change event of list box is called. After that again Text Change event of text box is called. Can any body give some insight why this happening? Below is the .aspx code:

I have a detailsview, and I was wondering how I can insert value from a textbox instead of a boundfield value. I am able assign value to textbox in code behind.
I need to compare the old value of my textbox to the new value that was put intot he checkbox to see if anything changed alse I don't wnat to save anything in the wor and move to next row. Here is my gridiview with bound txtBoxes and my initial code behind.
I save a linkbutton to save it all. but I need to compare values so that I am not saving information that does not need to be saved becuase of the expensive long trip of the update process to an oracle server over a link from sql.
For Each dgi As GridViewRow In Gridmain.Rows Dim Actualval As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtActual"), TextBox).Text Dim Targetval As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtTarget"), TextBox).Text Dim Tolval As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtTolerance"), TextBox).Text Dim BMVal1 As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtBm1"), TextBox).Text Dim BMVal2 As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtBm2"), TextBox).Text Dim BMVal3 As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtBm3"), TextBox).Text Dim BMVal4 As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtBm4"), TextBox).Text Dim BMVal5 As String = CType(dgi.FindControl("txtBm5"), TextBox).Text Next
I was wondering if I can create a method or textbox in an .aspx page (such as 'Default.aspx') and from a different class (e.g 'MyClass.vb') insert values into the textbox?
The reason i am asking I have a list of a few products that may or may not change once a month, and instead of saving all the variables and diffrent things in a sql table I can just update/delete them in a css sheet.
I know I can probably copy and past it in and out of the .aspx page but it just seems so 'un-neat' to have lots of text in the HTML tags.
I am trying to add some widget-functionality to the CKEditor using custom plugins.. Does anyone have any experience parsing the resulting html or getting the job done in another way?
What I am looking for is to add something like a news-block at a user specified place in the text, like an ordinary image..
I have thought of several options, like just adding an iframe that takes care of the content automatically (from the src url in the iframe), but that way I loose the text formatting/css.. I have also thought of adding the content dynamically with some ajax onload, but that way I might loose some viewers..
Finally I have come to the conclusion that using custom tags like <something options="..." /> or even <div class="something" options="..."></div> and then replacing them with usercontrols is the best solution.. But how to accomplish this? I know how to add controls to other servercontrols, but how to add them easily in some random text? It could be something like putting the text prior to the widget and after into a placeholder and adding the widget-control in between..
In short, I have 3 text box fields on an .aspx page named as follows:-
TextBoxIncident TextBoxDate TextBoxDescription
in addition a sql datasource is on the page which is connected to the incident table with an insert query which allows the data entered into the fields to be inserted into the database...
The Textboxincident and textboxdescription fields allow the user to enter data into them...
the TextBoxDate field is a read only and the code behind file enables the text box to show the current date and time the code im using is shown below...
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim TextBoxDate As TextBox TextBoxDate = FormView1.FindControl("TextBoxDate") TextBoxDate.Text = DateTime.Now End Sub
When run in browser the textboxdate field shows the current date and time...and Once the textbox incident and text box description fields have been filled in and the submit button is clicked, the fields should be bound to MS SQL table called Incident. This did work before, however it as suddenly stopped working and now displays the following message to me:-
Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime. The statement has been terminated.
I am trying to add a validation of the textbox.text.length in a FormView and prevent the insertion of being made in case the text length is not compliant (less than four characters).
In the scenario when clicking the submit button an Alert should appear with xxxx warinig text. and the Insert command being prevented.
I have a page with a text box, a button and a GridView. Enter an account number in the text box, press the check button and the result will show in the GridView.
Now user wants that if the text box is clear, the GridView disappear.
I can only find TextBox1_OnTextChanged. But I want to have that while the user is clearing the text, if the length of text becomes zero, the GridView is clear out. So I am looking for OnTextChanging(). Well of course this function does not exist. How to achieve the same purpose?
I have an asp page with a textboxes, labels and other controls. I cannot get the .text to change in any of these controls. I click on button which I execute code that I expect to update the text but it doesn't work. Something like Textbox1.text = "Hello" Are there page level properties/settings I should look at? I am perplexed an looking for a place to start. I will provide more information as needed. I just don't know where to start.
When changing the textbox's text mode to multiline the textbox becomes resizable during runtime. I can't seem to find the property to disable this, does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?
I have a gridview being loaded via a Databind to a MembershipUserCollection
This works fine, but I need to add one more Column with data not found in the collection, so i added a TemplateField and a Label to my Gridview and in the TEXT prop of the label is where my problem is.
The function call is working, but my problem lies with providing the Datafield="UserName" value from the same row in GridView in the function call
We are having a problem with the educators clicking the wrong submit button. On one of the buttons we wanted to underline and set the font to bold on the words "Do Not". This is the code I have so far.
<%MsgButton = "Click here if you "%> <strong><u> <% MsgButton = MsgButton & " Do Not "%> ' I am sure the problem is on this line, but I do not know the syntax </strong></u> <% MsgButton = MsgButton & "Attend Anthony or Canutillo High School!"%> <Input Type="Submit" Name="BV1" Value="<%=MsgButton%>"
The words Do Not are not underlined or shown as Bold. Is this possible to do?

Well i dont have an error but would like to get some guidance on this. I have a webservice that calls a class. The Class translates numbers to figures i.e. 4000 will return a string 'Four Thousand Shillings'. So what i actually want is how i can do my processing
backwards so that in the service i call the class's method to return a string so that i put the results on a Text property of a Label Control while i type each figure in a TextBox Control.
i.e. if i type 4 in my text box, i should see 'Four in my label', then 40 will return 'Fourty Shillings', then 400 will return 'Four hundred'
This table receives data from my web application via a stored procedure, snippet pasted below:
[Code]....
