I've tried copying them to the folder and using "Add existing item", however it doesn't compile the code behind at all.

Trying Create Unit Testing For An Existing Website Project (not Web Application Project)?

Mar 11, 2010

I'm trying create unit testing for an existing website project (not web application project). I cannot access my under test classes unless I use accessor. However, if I use accessor, I have problem to initiate an object with passing arguments. I only want to create unit tetsing for App_Code. After searching web, and I found that I'd better to create a web application project using my current existing website project. From solution explorer, add new project ->using existing website. My questions is: what impact will have for my current website to create the new project? Should I just convert my current website to web application? If do that, will it cuase problems on my website? I am new on asp.net, still learning..

Adding To Page Control Collection From Inside A User Control?

Feb 12, 2011

I have an asp.net usercontrol which represents a "popup" dialog. Basically, it's a wrapper for the jQuery UI dialog which can be subclassed to easily make dialogs.

As part of this control, I need to inject a div into the page the control is used on, either at the very top or very bottom of the form so that when the popup is instantiated, it's parent is changed to this div. This allows "nested" popups without the child popup being trapped inside the parent popup. The trouble is, I can't find a safe way to inject this div into the page. A usercontrol doesn't have a preinit event, so I can't do it there, and calling Page.Form.Controls.Add(...) in Init, Load or PreRender causes the standard exception "The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases."

I thought I had found a solution by using...

ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Page, Me.GetType, UniqueID + "_Dialog_Div", containerDiv, False)

... which seemed to work well normally, but recently a coworker tried putting an UpdatePanel inside the dialog and now she's getting the error "The script tag registered for type 'ASP.controls_order_viewzips_ascx' and key 'ctl00$ContentBody$OViewZips_Dialog_Div' has invalid characters outside of the script tags: . Only properly formatted script tags can be registered."

How are you supposed to add controls to the pages control collection from inside a user control?

C# - Move To Mvc From Existing Project?

Feb 3, 2011

I have used .net framework 4.0 to design my web project I want to improve some features on my web site and I decided to use MVC in my project.

I research about mvc I found out System.Web.Routing in .net framework 3.5 is wrapped by System.Web in .net framework 4.0.

In the other side in my host environment I have IIS 7.0 with all necessarily handlers mapped to .aspx and some other extension like .cshtml and support them.

So I think I have all thing for mvc migration. my question is :

Is it possible to move mvc by configure web.config and make some structure for content, view and controller classes but don't change any asp.net pages and configuration like appcode and appdata which I had before in my asp.net application.

Note, I don't want to change or update my old application to mvc I want to add some mvc controllers class and view to my existing asp.net project to use mvc functionality.

Web Forms :: After Added Already Existing Project The Solution Icon Vanished By Showing The Icon Of Recently Added Project?

Feb 1, 2010

I have the following list of projects WebUI (WebSite) , DataAccess (ClassLibrary) , LogicLayer(ClassLibrary). Those of the project are purposively crated separately.But my scenario is, need to create only one solution file, then add all of the above projects under this solution file. So that i can be easiy interacted and changes can be made by opening solution file only instead of opening each project individually.

Simply all of the layer projects are under one roof means one solution. I tried it by adding solution first, then i added already existed project into this. But once after added already existing project the solution icon vanished by showing the icon of recently added project. By this way I could not add another project into this section too.Hope this is the way the basic real-time projects are created; to achieve the centralized control over architecture based projects.

Add Custom User Control To Published Web Project

Sep 22, 2010

I have a published web project. I want to add some .ascx files (with .cs & designer.cs files) to that published web site. These are simple custom user controls that access methods already part of the original application. Question? Is it possible to just drop these in the published web project without building the entire solution? If not why? When I drop these files in and run my application I get the error: "Parse Error: Could not load type 'the name of my custom controls namespace'". There is not a lot of code to show so this is all I have.

Default.aspx
<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPages/TwoColumn.master" AutoEventWireup="true"
Inherits="ApplicationName.Web.Default" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="uc1" TagName="CustomControl" Src="~/Controls/Custom/CustomControl.ascx" %>
<asp:Content ID="content" contentplaceholder="cph" runat="Server">
<uc1:CustomControl ID="cc1" runat="server" CustomProperty="Hello World" />
</asp:Content>
CustomControl.ascx
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="CustomControl.ascx.cs"
Inherits="ApplicationName.Web.Controls.Custom.CustomControl" %>
<asp:PlaceHolder ID="ph1" runat="server></asp:PlaceHolder>
CustomControl.ascx.cs
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.IO;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
namespace ApplicationName.Web.Controls.Custom
{
public partial class CustomControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl
{
///My logic
}
}

Again it seems so easy. What am I missing? Or is this not possible?

Programmatically Adding A User Control In C#?

Jan 12, 2010

I have a user control that needs to load a child control when a button is clicked. The trouble is that it has to request the control from another class.

So in the button click event, I call the function to get me my control, and add it to the page, like this:

UserControl ctrl = ExampleDataProvider.GetControl(some params...);
myDetailPane.Controls.Add(ctrl);
The GetControl method looks like:
public static UserControl GetControl(some params...)
{
ExampleDetailPane ctrl = new ExampleDetailPane();
ctrl.Value = "12";
ctrl.Comment = string.Empty;
return ctrl;
}

This isn't working due to the page's lifecycle - the Page_Load of the child control gets fired and its controls are null.

Also, can anyone help me with writing the file to a different location other than my local project file? I need the path to become a server location instead of the CSV folder stored locally.

Adding MVC Content To An Existing Application?

Jan 31, 2011

We have a web application written in ASP.NET for .NET 3.5, using standard web forms.

Going forward we want to start building new features, and over time migrate existing features, in ASP.NET MVC.

Is such a thing doable? Can we add the necessary files to an ASP.NET web application and thus "upgrade" it to be compatible enough with MVC so that we can start adding routes, controllers, views, etc.?

The old site is using a frameset containing a top header, a left menu, and a main content. What I envisioned was to create a new masterpage for all the existing pages, integrating all of those things into each page instead, and then start adding new pages using views instead.

I understand that unless we upgrade to .NET 4 we cannot use MVC 3, so the way I see it we have the following options:

Build a new website, somehow auto logon the new site with the same credentials when logging in on the main site, and link between the sites. I see tons of problems with this solution. Integrate ASP.NET MVC 2 into the existing software, adding the necessary files, and starting to add new content in MVC style, only fixing critical bugs in the old files, and over time migrate them over to MVC. Upgrade to .NET 4 and integrate ASP.NET MVC 3, pretty much the rest the same as option 2. Wait until we can schedule a full rewrite, likely to not happen in any foreseeable future. Don't do it, keep web forms.

Note that a full rewrite is out of scope at the moment, so some transitional period is the only option we can do right now.

Option 2 and 3 are the ones we want, the rest are just for completeness.

Adding .aspx Page To Existing Website?

I have a running ASP.NET web site. There is following problem with one of the forms:

One part of submitted data is added to database after "submit" is clicked. (to "table1") Another part is lost (not added to "table2", and no files uploaded) I have no source code of that project. So, because I cant edit existing page, I came to a decision to add new .aspx page to a running application with same functions as existing one. How can I do that? Or maybe you can recommend some other solution.

C# - Dynamically Adding A Custom User Control To A Page?

Nov 3, 2010

I have a usercontrol (ascx) that I want to dynamically add to a page.

Neither the control nor the page has a namespace (thanks crappy vendor).

When I use the following, it tells me it cant find the "type or namespace"

StayTunedControl = (UserControler_StayTuned)LoadControl("~/UserControler/StayTuned.ascx");
Page.Controls.Add(StayTunedControl);
StayTunedControl.StayTunedID = Convert.ToInt32(IncludesStayTunedMeta.Value);

After some tweaking to the namespaces, etc, I am now at a point where the 3rd line above generates the following error:

'System.Web.UI.UserControl' does not contain a definition for 'StayTunedID'

I was hoping that casting StayTunedControl as type (UserControler_StayTuned) would fix this.
