I googled this problem and the solution for it was having a malformed connection string where the "provider" was being specified when it shouldn't have. Example conn string:Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;DATABASE=APInquiry;SERVER=SqlServer I'm not specifying the Provider so I think I have a different problem...???

Feb 18, 2011I've created a custom membership provider and I am trying to use it to secure my WCF service. But, I am getting this error:
The service certificate is not provided. Specify a service certificate in ServiceCredentials.
I don't want to use an x509 certificate. How can I get this working?

UPDATE.This blog post, enter link description here, says:[When] you opt in for the UserName client credential type, WCF insists that your service must also reference a service certificate that contains a private key.
I am going to host my service in IIS and plan to use SSL certificate in the web site for encrypting communication. Can I make WCF not insist that I reference a service certificate?

WSAT Security Tab Error For Custom Role Provider?
May 12, 2010I have created custome Membership Role and Profile provider using INGRES db. Now I can see my IngresMembership and IngresRole provider in the Provider tab(Select a different provider for each feature (advanced) ) of WSAT but when I clik on security tab I get this error:
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
What am I missing? Do I need to add code for all override methods for Role provider? I have just written code for the Initialize and GetRolesForUser functions.
Shared Memory Provider, Error: 0 - No Process Is On The Other End Of The Pipe?
May 17, 2010I'm tearing my hair out here - I'm building a .NET web application at the moment and every time I either want to access the database/build a page or create a new datasource I get the following error:A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)I also get it in SQL Server Management Studio 2008 quite a lot too. I know what you're thinking - search the web for the error, read what the nice people have to say. Only I've spent the last week or so doing this, and I'm no closer to resolving this.

Jun 3, 2010I'm still trying to learn how all of this works, and I apologize if this is a simple fix, but I'm getting frustrated and I could use some help.
I found an XML profile provider that I'm trying to use, and when I set it up, it works fine on my local machine. However when I upload it to the server, I get an error and I don't really know what it means:

AppFabric Error When Disable Security For SessionState Provider?
Jul 28, 2010I'm completely stuck with this version 1.0.0.0 product.
I'm running in a domain environment but for the specific application i'm using I want to disable security to reduce the workload on the servers when accessing the cache.
I've got a bunch of web servers with an existing application using SQL sessions state, and the idea was to roll out AppFabric and use the session state provider and a fast solution to speed things up. Currently have a single separate server running appFabric Host.
All Servers are on the same domain.
I've got AppFabric Running using this mode on the host
Set-CacheClusterSecurity -ProtectionLevel EncryptAndSign -SecurityMode Transport
Local App Pool on the web servers is using NETWORK SERVICE account, and i've grantedthe machine accounts permissions and it all works fine.
But then on the server i set this
Set-CacheClusterSecurity -ProtectionLevel None -SecurityMode None
(Stopping and Starting the cluster).
Then after that I get this error.
ErrorCode:SubStatus:There is a temporary failure. Please retry later. (One or more specified Cache servers are unavailable, which could be caused by busy network or servers. Ensure that security permission has been granted for this client account on the cluster and that the AppFabric Caching Service is allowed through the firewall on all cache hosts. Retry later.)
My assumption is that the client (session state provider), is set by default to use security and need to be set not too, but can't find any doco on how to change this, or i could be barking up the wrong tree.

May 21, 2010I get this error while trying to run my project: "Column name 'UserID' appears more than once in the result column list." Indeed, the query generated in my SqlTableProfileProvider.vb is the following (text in brackets [] has been changed):

I'll emphasize that the above statement is generated in SqlTableProfileProvider.vb, which was written by .Net people. While I have little control over its source, I've apparently given the fodder whereby the mistake can be generated. Any clues as to why UserID is being written twice in the statement?

I've created a class that inherits the RoleProvider base class and i've added code to each Sub. now PROBLEM is when it successfully logged in ,and redirects to 'index-Homepage.aspx' it gives Anornymoustemplate ..while its verifying the role correctly in index-Homepage.aspx.cs
